2012 Model S - Limp mode - BMS_w172 (Vehicle may not restart) , BMS_u008 (Acceleration and top speed reduced)

Yep. That is a great trick. I tried it a few time and it didn't clear the messages.

2012 Model S - Limp mode - BMS_w172 (Vehicle may not restart) , BMS_u008 (Acceleration and top speed reduced)

I had to pull the 12v and HV Loop to get the car to start. I got a message saying the car would not start. Pulling HV and 12v cleared the hard message but didn't clear the soft/limp messages.

2012 Model S - Limp mode - BMS_w172 (Vehicle may not restart) , BMS_u008 (Acceleration and top speed reduced)

So I don't think their was anything wrong with the old heater but I didn't do any test. I still have that heater. I could check the resistance. There really isn't much to go bad in those. The weather is getting colder so I thought maybe it was related. It all started when my 12v battery...

2012 Model S - Limp mode - BMS_w172 (Vehicle may not restart) , BMS_u008 (Acceleration and top speed reduced)

Hello All, Recently had my model S go into limp mode; BMS_w172 (Vehicle may not restart) , BMS_u008 (Acceleration and top speed reduced). This happened at the same time as the 12v battery needing to be replaced. We took the car to a service center and had the battery replaced. All seamed...

Supercharger - Florence, KY - Houston Road

One note from the pictures. The stalls are not labeled. Once the site has power Tesla will send someone out to certify the site. Typically they will label the stalls and put the final touches on. So even after we get power it could be a week or two before they inspect it and power up for use.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

    Got it, yeah. That's expected.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Do we have evidence to this? Honestly want to know before I start sharing information. From the issues that I've seen / heard of, Tesla hasn't been the one that intervened. I personally have a reputation as a non-standard customer with my local service center, but they have always worked...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I can assure you I understand the frustration this issue can cause. The MCU failure in my car caused a major crisis in my family that I was helpless in. However, the MCU in my car lasted 170,000ish miles and 7ish years. The eMMC is a component that has a specific span of life. Much like...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

No, I’m saying the eMMC is on a board next to the cellar modem. It requires the same level of effort to replace.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Bottom line is that there doesn't appear to be anyone that is providing this service right now. Phil (ingineer) is likely the closest you will find to someone able to do this commercially. However, it seams that he is working on a few other projects. A few of us have been unable to contact...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

There is definitely an increase of this issue. I've got a MCU that has failed and is only displaying a black screen. I'll document and post some videos on this soon. When the "screen bubbles" were first an issue I was able to raise the issue enough with engineers and service that they started...

Got the dreaded "battery charge level is restricted" message yesterday

Do you know what version of the battery you all had? A, B, C, D? The range your VIN numbers were in would be interesting too.
  13. Tripple_T

How do clear "replace 12v battery" warning?

The warning will clear when the battery is replaced. There is not a code that needs to be reset. In my experience the system is looking at the voltage of the battery on a few cycles and sees when the voltage comes up. That is my best guess to how it is fixed.

    Supercharger network needs work

I too experienced some significant SuperCharging issue on my last trip. I spent 3 weeks away from home and completely relied on SuperChargers and destination chargers. I had one location that caused me to wait two hours while the car chartered from 10% - 90%. My trip proved to me that you...

    Supercharger - Cambridge, OH

The chargers have not been labeled yet either. Tesla will label them once they have passed final inspection. Someone from Tesla corporate will come out and test all the stalls soon.
  17. Tripple_T

    Supercharger - Marshall, MI

Are the stalls labeled? I've seen where the contractors turn the power on before Tesla can test and the charger gets turned off when Tesla shows up. Excited for this as it means this will be live on our maps soon!
  18. Tripple_T

    Supercharger - Marshall, MI

yeah. That is definitely a transformer now. All we should need is a visit from a Tesla rep to test and tune the stalls. Keep and eye out for the stickers labeling the stalls 1a-4b.

    Supercharger - Marshall, MI

This is the painful reality of new superchargers. They are always right where you need them when being built...but seam like they are under construction when you need them them most... :) The 5th sounds a bit optimistic. Unless you are looking at August 5th. Once the green transformer shows...

LTE upgrade is on the way

I can confirm that the parts are around $100 US and the upgrade is relatively easy to do. As long as you have the ability to pull the MCU out. Steps include: Convince Service Center you know what you are doing Buy parts only Remove dash trim Remove MCU from dash Remove Screen from MCU...

    Supercharger - Champaign, IL

I had probables this weekend (Friday) as well. I was seeing 74KW on the two or three chargers I attached to. I was worried it was my battery starting to have issues. Maybe it was just something with this charger?

POLL: Have you had to have your 12V battery replaced?

Have a look at the YouTube Channel in my sig. I haven't had the time to finish Part 3, but you will get the ideal. Really part 3 isn't that needed.
  30. Tripple_T

POLL: Have you had to have your 12V battery replaced?

Negative. After I replaced my battery I did not need to reset anything. The car reset the message on it's own. Before my project I confirmed this with the service center. The car will detect the change and reset itself.
  31. Tripple_T

    12V battery

$125 is for the battery by itself (IE: you replace it). $400 sounds like the price they would charge to replace the battery and a bunch of stuff that doesn't need to be replaced.

    bubbles on touchscreen

OK, I've had a small victory with Tesla corporate. They have added the screen as a separate part number that can be ordered. The price I was quoted was $985 + tax. I'm working to get some additional information. That is still twice as much as I would expect for a screen like this, but it is...

Screen bubbles, happening in our climate?

The analysis I just got back from the countries leading touch screen repair company would concur.

    bubbles on touchscreen

Not good news from the leading LCD touch screen repair company in the US. Not sure what options I have left, $2300 to Tesla is just not reasonable.

After removing the screen I reinstalled the MCU without the screen. This will let me drive the car while the screen is away for repairs.

    bubbles on touchscreen

Step one complete. I've removed my screen from the car and boxed it up. I will be shipping the screen to a commercial repair company in the morning. I'm praying that they will be able to repair the screen for a fraction of what Tesla wants for an entire new MCU. I reinstalled the MCU in the...

    bubbles on touchscreen

Will do, I'll produce another YouTube Tesla Technician video for removing the MCU/Center Stack. It will be the foundation for LTE/4G and other videos that require that step. I'm planning to remove my screen this weekend and send it to the company that I'm working with. "Hopefully" I'll have a...

    Supercharger - Laurel, MD

Typically before going live, Tesla will come out and "tune" the chargers. I wont be surprised if they are shutoff until they can be tuned by Tesla...Who knows, maybe they already did that since the stalls are labeled.

    bubbles on touchscreen

Just a follow up. I've contacted TPK the manufacture of the 17" screen. They are unable to sell direct to end users. I'm still trying to gather information about the cause of this issue. Once we get a little closer to my repair time I'll pull the screen and see if I can figure out what the...

    bubbles on touchscreen

I think they need to go back and evaluate the design or make the sub components available. The quote I received today is more than 10 times what it should be. Very poor justification for a part that could be repaired at most cell phone repair stores.

    bubbles on touchscreen

I agree, I'm much more likely to get my hands on one of the Ebay units and figure out why it's so complicated. Anyone have a dead MCU they are willing to donate to the production of a disassembly video?

    bubbles on touchscreen

I just got a quote from the service center. They are saying they would replace the entire MCU at the tune of $2723.15.

    bubbles on touchscreen

This just showed up on my Jan 2013 car. I'm getting the feeling we are about to hit critical mass. On the positive side, as you guys have seen with the 12v battery. I'm more than willing to work on my car and can produce a how-to video on the repair. That being said, I'll probably let this...

    Supercharger - Laurel, MD

Well, I just returned home from the area and never got a charge from this SuperCharger. I did however get a number of full charges from the garages downtown. Baltimore is fortunate to have a number for city garages that have Level 2 chargers. I was able to charge all day with the 208v/32a...
