    [UK] 2022.12.x

I think it's extremely unlikely that changes are being made to legacy Autopilot code in any of these updates, other than by turning features off.

    Charging for terraced houses

If you can get the space outside your front door from time to time then just use the UMC with a robust and visible cable protector. It's not illegal (even though some councils like to claim that it is) - you just need to demonstrate that you considered and mitigated the risks to the public.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

That sounds like.a rip-off. I've got a similar quotes for £8400 from other installers, albeit for 4.5kW of panels and 5.2kWh batteries. I've gone for Pylontech batteries, partly because you can very easily increase capacity, but mostly because they're the only ones in stock. Scaffolding costs...

Model 3 brake service at home

A car that's jacked up on one corner is resting on three springy flexible rubber balls. It's not too hard to knock it off the jack and I'd strongly recommend adding an additional layer of protection, and in addition, not putting your fingers between the bottom of the brake disk and the ground at...

Work definitely under way, but I think it will be some time yet I before it's ready to roll. Workers are connecting power to the substation in the corner of the car park but no trenching started yet. I could see two boxes of 4(?) chargers. Location...

Installing a second home charge point on a looped supply

Depends on the DNO. No issues with a charger on a looped supply here in Yorkshire - they swapped the fuse from 60A to 80A, but the charger will load limit anyway. The guy who changed the fuse did say that it may present a bigger problem if my neighbour wants a charger too. My supply is looped...

30 hour wait for recovery. Lessons learnt.

Is that confirmed? A much better way to do it would be to just have a relay close and enable the emergency open wiring when the 12v battery voltage drops sufficiently.

    [UK] 2022.16.x

Just as a heads-up for owners with enhanced autopilot... looks like this update may strip out Navigate on Autopilot following further (backwards) rule changes by the UNESC. Unfortunately as the UK is a signatory to this it's going to affect cars here. It appears unclear as to whether the...

    Flashing red light on charger

"I've lost the receipt but I bought it when I got the car two years ago..." If they don't know instantly when it was first activated on the system, they're not going to know that you're bending the truth a little with the warranty status.

    PCN in electric car bay

"Pay up" is my humble opinion. Your car was parking in an EV parking space without charging. I don't think there's any point arguing the matter on a technicality. While private parking companies are dodgy shysters they're also there to stop people blocking disabled spaces etc. I can't imagine...

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

I guess the age-old question of whether Tesla intend to make the bulk of their money from Superchargers over the coming decade has been answered.

    [UK] 2022.12.x

I have mine set to miles, mainly because it's not a million miles from the actual figure most of the time if you need to jump in the car and drive somewhere. Don't particularly like watching the percentage fall, but I'd find that if an ICE car showed my the fuel capacity in percentage too.

    Tesla block supercharger

Inspected by whom? If Tesla then I think they'd struggle to explain why they judge it safe for you to drive, but not safe to charge. If a third party then I think you're out of luck. Upgraded makes a very good point above. Would be interesting to see if cars are actively blacklisted from...

Rumour of free premium for leases cars ending

So what would you say to the person who got their car in October 21 when the car was advertised as including 12 months free Premium Connectivity?
  19. F

Rumour of free premium for leases cars ending

You can't just write unfair terms into contracts. Those who are leasing on a salary sacrifice scheme should get their employer involved. It's not you that's being ripped off, it's them - and they might be inclined to challenge on your behalf.

Frunk LED Light Strip for Model 3 or Y

That's not a mistake, that's a symptom of systematic fraud in the Amazon warehouse. It's becoming surprisingly frequent so there's clearly a way for employees to get the iPad out of the building undetected. I can think of one easy method right off the bat. The only effective solution would be...

Can someone recommend a PEN fault detector?

None of these devices directly detect a PEN fault. Instead they monitor the voltage between line and neutral, and if it falls below 208V they'll open the contactor (which will isolate the line / neutral / earth) from the car.

I can't see how it won't, particularly with most utility contracts including inflation + percentage increases baked in, which will further cement the problem. Having said that perhaps it wouldn't kill Tesla to take some of the £2,000,000,000 profit that they made this quarter and subsidise...

Highway Code: Watching TV in self-driving cars to be allowed…

This is exactly what I'd expect to roll out to owners of cars with Enhanced Autopilot. Lazy driving in traffic jams, maybe an occasional lane change, and a prod to take back control if it gets stuck. The only bit that worries me are HGVs with large pieces of metal overhanging the back of the...

Update on Heathrow: I've just swung by again and all the charging points are open, although didn't get more than 160kW on the V3. I guess the feedback got to the right person. You have to take a ticket to get in, but the barrier is up on the exit lane at the moment so no time limit.

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

For info - the Superchargers at Heathrow T5 are mostly out of action. All the 250kW versions are shut down and being used by the hotel for customer parking. They've been removed from the in-car map so this is likely a permanent change. Many vehicles queueing today followed by problems as they...

    Extra range estimation while driving

The trip computer now takes temperature into account. It's possible that its map of the UK is quite granular and at that point in your journey the temperature increases noticeably in its model, which gives a greater predicted range from that point.

Rumour of free premium for leases cars ending

I would expect it to run for the 12 months free that you get with a normal purchase (as was described on the website). Don't mind paying after that point and was expecting to. I guess it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the lease agreement, but if it's salary sacrifice then the lease company...

If the wrong-sided cars are evenly spaced then that knocks every other bay out of commission to Tesla drivers, but ironically leaves it available to another non-Tesla vehicle.

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Depending the layout, if they open the UK superchargers to other brands that means that on a full bank of 12 V3, it's possible for only 6 cars maximum to charge if they are using the wrong side. With funky layouts that can drop to a maximum of 4 or 5 cars. I doubt Tesla is going to be asking...

Existing Rolec Wallpod:EV or New Tesla Gen 3

I replaced a PodPoint one with a Tesla Gen 3 from eBay, mainly because the Podpoint charger looked bloody awful on the side of the house. Tesla vision only - no radar from 2022 Q2 cars

You don't need binocular vision to infer depth, it's just one of the ways to do it. Perfectly acceptable to use relative size and position / occlusion to do the same thing and that's how many humans work.

    Michelin CrossClimate 2 issues

CC2 are less than £600 for four, fitted. Yeah, it's a lot of money but it's 1% of the price of the car and can be budgeted for at £25/month over two years, which is what I do for tyres. Speed should be appropriate to the conditions and the problem you face is that with a mixture of tyres you...

    Michelin CrossClimate 2 issues

Maybe don't buy a £60,000 car if you can't afford to run it safely? It's not just you that's affected, it's the person in the opposite lane that encounters the back of your car heading towards them at 60mph after you've spun out on a cold, wet, bend.

Left turn signal automatically comes on by itself in Autopilot

I think EAP assumes that all motorways work like US freeways, where the inside lane becomes the sliproad. Mine occasionally indicates left and wobbles sometimes when in this situation, exacerbated if there's an arrow painted on the road. It's never actually changed lane or left the motorway...
