    F-150 Ford Lightning

Finally saw my first Lightning in SoCal. These are harder to spot than Rivians because they are very similar to the ICE F-150. Easier to determine from the front but from the rear, have to look for those LED taillights and a possible lightbar on the tailgate. I wish I put in a reservation for...

SHOULD TESLA BE WORRIED? (2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Starts at $10k Less Than a Tesla Model Y)

I'm going to say that the majority of people buying the EQB will not be road trippers... short and mid-range EVs will do fine for many drivers... esp if they are much cheaper.

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Yep... looks we may not be getting that $25k Model 2. :)

@Jersey_guy_202 Now you are required to show us the same dogs in your MYP. :)

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Missed the replies but <5% is not the overall increase Tesla has made, just the last one. You need to start from 2021 when they first started doing increases (after some rare drops). But regarding what I liked about the Ioniq 5: 1. Front seating space: I like the open area between driver and...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I'm not all that convinced that the price increases is directly proportional to the supply chain increase in costs. This is just like gas, food etc... someone is profiting more than they should and that's fine but we all know that stuff goes up faster than they should and goes down slower than...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

At $66k starting for the Model Y with the latest Muskflation... I would definitely consider other EVs if I were buying today. I used to think that Supercharging was a great advantage but if you're just driving locally... home charging will suffice.

    CA Waiting Room

I have friends who have had ordered an MYLR back in May 21 when they were about $53k. Their delivery dates keep getting pushed and now they are Sept/Oct 22. I've read that MYPs are getting delivered sooner... but are there cases of same configured MYLRs that have the most recent pricing...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Oh yes definitely corp profiteering. I keep telling them to add FSD and then remove it once they get a VIN and delivery date. :)
  11. BigNerd

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I think this might be true for the higher priced models. I have friends who have had reservations since May 2021 on the $52k LR model (when they were priced that low) and their delivery times keep getting pushed... now Sept 2022.

    Version 2022.16.x

I don't think removing the seat heater shortcuts (among others) was very "agile". And they took quite a bit of time to restore it even though there was immediate feedback that it was bad. I think Tesla's software design is more like "argyle". They think it looks nice until someone actually...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I consider the Y a luxury vehicle... so for $40k (SR before Covidflation), it compared well to luxury brands. It had more features than base trim luxury cars (where you had to pay more for seat heaters or power memory seats). Now starting at $63k, I don't consider it comparable and would...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

@Suns_PSD Since you have a BAT, let's use full-size trucks for this cost comparison then. Today, a moderately equipped 2022 Ford F-150 will cost ~$55k. The Lightning, although claimed to start at $40k, I expect will have a similarly equipped model (compared to the ICE version) at around...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I'm pretty sure Leafs can be had at that price now... they actually have a very aggressive lease program if you just want to borrow an EV for 18 months. I apologize that I haven't been actively shopping EVs lately, but I know Konas and even Niros can be had for MSRP and then you factor in the...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Off the top of my head, EVs in the $40k range: Model Y RWD SR: $40k (yes, no longer but it was... same with Model 3) Nissan Leaf: $28-38k Hyundai Kona: $35k With Fed credit (and before ridiculous dealer markups): ID4, EV6, Ioniq5, Niro, BZ4X, Mach-E But if you're patient, you can order any...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I missed this but I do not agree. Even before the insane gas prices, my PHEV (which I rarely put gas into) was less expensive than the ICE vehicle it replaced. My Y is even less expensive because it doesn't have the oil/engine maintenance that the PHEV had. Now that gas requires donating...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I like these threads because you'll get extremes on both sides but the reality is there is this huge middle ground where everyone can play. Been driving a PHEV for 4 years and decided I don't use enough gas so I could go straight EV. At the time, Model Y was the only real game in town because...

So before I order these... which one is the best deal on Amazon? I got sort of gypped on the 2-piece roof shade so I want to get it right this time. :)

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

Which ones did you get? I couldn't find a good set so for now I just got the dividers that keeps stuff from falling into them... they actually work pretty well and now we put taller stuff in there so it's okay. These are what I got...

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

I would too. Thinking about buying a 2nd pair but I can save that money for some other Y accessory, like those rear storage bin covers.
  23. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

@Itsuo-DC I think the 2-piece shade with the covers would look better than your reflective one. I mean, I know yours is functional... but it's really noticeable... even my oblivious kids would see it. :)
  24. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

What should happen is Tesla finally adds a power shade like other EVs have. :) You'd have to get a new MY but I'm never in a car for more than 4 years anyways.
  25. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

Gah. Too bad I didn't see this sooner. Finally watched the video for this one, seems to be a gap between the two pieces, @gleearch seems to have a different version that has white clips... less visible gap.
  26. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

That link says $48 for me. Canadian? :) It's interesting because the two piece with covers one doesn't have a different clip to link the middle portion.
  27. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

Hmm... I probably would have got that one with covers... I must have missed it when I was Amazoning. I only saw the one-piece with the cover and I wanted the 2-piece one. Searching now and I see one but it's $51 not $36. :(

    v11 software update SUCKS

Yep, just noticed this in my update today (2022.12.3.2). You have to long press any of the app icons to see the additional vehicle controls but this fixes my major issue with v11. It's also nice that the seat heater icons go into their own spots next to the driver and passenger. So, yeah, for...

Why does Tesla suspension suck so bad?

Isn't that what we are doing? Comparing the apple ride of a Y to the orange ride of [insert car here]? Neither my 22 Leaf or my previous cars (Chrysler PHEV Pacifica, QX60) has air suspension and it's still like apples and oranges. :)
  30. BigNerd

Why does Tesla suspension suck so bad?

Yes... even for those who don't think the Y suspension "sucks"... they still seem to agree that it is "stiff". I've ridden in an X and there is a noticeable difference... heck... even our Leaf rides "better" (subjective!) then the Y.

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

I only have the 2-piece and it looks fine to me, one of my kids didn't even notice we installed it until a week or so later. It doesn't look any worse that those 2 part sunroofs some of these bigger cars have. The reason I didn't go with the one piece with magnets is I didn't want to stick...

Why does Tesla suspension suck so bad?

Wish this thread had a poll. Too many responses to get a good gauge but I also feel the Model Y has a harsh ride. I drive all the cars in my household throughout the week and the Y is by far the one where I feel the road the most. And many people like that... so "suck" may not be the right...

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

I just installed the front half for a while and it was fine. I imagine it’s the same for the rear half. The clips are very easy to install so I would remove them if you remove the shades. The one I ordered came with a box to store the clips. The wrinkles should go away after the shades have...

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

Don't know if this helps but this is the installation. As you can see it's still see through and doesn't sag in the middle. It's really some solid engineering.
  35. BigNerd

    2-piece Roof Sunshade

@Wyeme It's good. Stays in place, middle does not sag and don't even notice it other than it's cooler. This particular shade is still see through so you still get that open feeling but it diffuses the light/heat more. I should have got this sooner but they didn't make the 2-piece version...

    Still hate v11

I get what you are trying to say here except smart phones today are used less for calling so it's okay that the dial page is not on the front. In fact, the last time I dialed out using the dial pad was probably never ago. On my iPhone, my 4 bottom shortcuts are Maps, Chrome, iMessage and the...

    Still hate v11

Every software company needs this and there are many that don't do it properly because they don't have the budget and/or resources. I don't know that Tesla's excuse is. And this isn't a commentary on the vehicle itself... but it's weird that this would be such a misstep. Has this happened in...

Unconfirmed: analyst claims there will be a smaller Cybertruck model

This could work if there was short bed and standard bed model but even then, the vault would have to be reworked (and Elon could cut some costs if the short bed did not have an electronic cover).

Is it me, or is the Model Y really ugly?

To be fair, the OP needs to post their picture so we can decide if it's them or the Model Y that's ugly. :) Personally, the Model Y looks great to me, sort of like those fastback BMW/MBZs that cost way more money and run on dinosaur bones.

FM/DAB Radio needs reboot to work

Mine used to go silent before v11 but that was only twice in a year. It's now gone silent 3 times in the last month. The screen reboot fixes it, but very annoying.

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Looking at the spy drone videos of the pre-prod CT really makes me want it more. If trucks are macho, the CT is techno-macho. :)

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Couldn't find any F-150 Diesels or Hybrids in my area... they are nice though. But the Ram 1500 hybrid was the best drive to me... rear coils made for a smoother ride and the light hybrid helped with that quickness from stop (and has regen braking)... however, it has that rotary gear shifter...
  45. BigNerd

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Well... EVs are instant torque and regen braking helps with stopping. With an ICE, especially full-sized trucks... starting from a stop is slow... and trying to come to stop... is slow. But... it's big and beefy and sounds macho. :) And that's why I want an EV truck... big, beefy... and quick.
  46. BigNerd

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

These type of threads always so polarizing. I'm probably going to get the one that I can get first and is around the $50-60k range (although I really lean towards that $40k CT). I have no reservations at all so that's probably going to be hard but I'm hoping that once these are all out (2024?)...

ICE ICE baby... too slow... to slow...

Anyone my age will get that reference. So I can't wait the 2-4 years for a CT, Lightning or Silverado EV to come out... and RT1s are a bit high and impossible to get... so I ended up leasing a full size truck. But why are you posting this in an Energy and Environment thread? Because when I...

I test drove Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL RWD (short review)

Depends right? We have 2 EVs in our household and both use L1 charging from 9pm to 4pm (lowest TOU). So far we've had no issues. If there is ever a time we need more... we hit a Supercharger or a L2 charging station.

I test drove Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL RWD (short review)

I did like the interior roominess of the Ioniq 5. The sliding center console and the reclining/sliding rear seats give more flexibility with space. I know some people prefer the center console that extends from the seats to the dashboard but I like that open space at the front to put stuff...
