    Autoexpanding maps gone

You know how the nav maps change size depending on whether you’re on the freeway versus surface streets? Well I seem to have lost that ability. Now the maps just stay the same size regardless of where I am. I clearly did something wrong, but I don’t know what it is. I’ve tried resetting the...

    Tire Repair Sealant

That’s what I thought, too. Our SC says no, though.

    Tire Repair Sealant

Well, I just had the opportunity to use my tire repair kit and tire sealant today (although I think the hold in the tire was too big for the sealant to be effective). Nevertheless, I need another bottle of the sealant, and I can't seem to find a place that sells the sealant without the entire...

    Coincidence? I don't think so...

3 year ownership with 58000 miles, just over the mileage limit for warranty, and the MCU dies. If I were the suspicious type, I'd assume that this was an evil manufacturing ploy, but I'll remain optimistic. Anyway, for those that have had this experience, how long can I expect repairs to take...

Will regular autopilot 1.0 driving keep pace with 2.5?

If AP1 stayed as it is, I'd be happy. On the other hand, what about the promised off-ramp capabilities for versions 8.0 and 8.1? I still don't see a technical reason why AP1 can't be updated to take freeway off-ramps based on turn signals or routing.

    Software Update 2018.24.1 12dd099

Can't agree, but I'm glad it's working out for you!

    Software Update 2018.24.1 12dd099

Installed this morning on AP1. Noted the speed limitation setting (not too applicable for me, personally) New maps - definitely more gray scale (blue water and green trees are now gone), without any noticeable improved rendering speed or detail Nags slightly improved on straightaways (gone from...

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

I think that’s mostly the point. I’m fine with “hand on the wheel,” but as you correctly point out, that’s often not enough on long, straight roads where you don’t add a lot of torque. I think that updates should add something to the driving experience, and the AP1 drivers haven’t seen that on...

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

I agree, @fasteddie7. No appreciable improvement in any respect, but more nags. I don’t think the promised AP1 freeway exits will happen, and if all we get is more restrictions without any improvements, I see no need in downloading any further updates.
  13. T

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

Looking bad. Nothing new on the “what’s new” page, and NO mention of slowing down for exits or interchanges. I’m on AP1. I fear that with the reported increase nags, I’ve just downloaded a downgrade without any new functionality.

Auto Unlock fails under what conditions?

For the first time in 3 years of owning my vehicle, auto-unlock didn’t operate as I approached my vehicle. Probably 5 or 6 attempts at getting the handles to extend failed as I approached the car, but the car unlocked and presented the handles immediately with two clicks of the fob. Of note, my...

Here it is the new Tesla Maps ( coming this weekend? )

Well, I got the map update last night, but I notice that the Google logo on the center console map is still there. I thought they were using a source other than Google for this update. The IC display update will take a little getting used to, but overall, it seems ok. The upcoming street names...

Here it is the new Tesla Maps ( coming this weekend? )

Maybe I'm missing something subtle - can someone explain the hype to me? The maps look different, but I see nothing on the video or in any of the explanations that makes these maps appreciably better than what I have. On my 2016 MS, AP1, MCU1, my current maps look fine, are quite responsive, and...

Can I drive while the steering wheel is adjusting?

I'm enjoying the Easy Entry feature, but the time it takes to adjust from the easy entry position to my normal driving position seems excessive (first the seat moves, then the steering wheel comes forward, then it repositions itself downward). Normally, I get impatient and start to drive as the...

Is it ok to let the car sit at 100% overnight

You can always set the car to start charging so that it will get to 100% around the time you intend to leave. For example, if you're charging at 240 volts and 40 amps, to get from say 60% to 100%, the math would be: 100 - 60 = 40. 40% of 60kWh = 24kWh = 24000Wh 24000Wh / (240V * 40A) = 2.5...

Warning to those who use the Burlingame Service Center

Now you're making me nervous! Should I ask Tesla if they'll reimburse me if I want my own paint guy to do the work? Does Tesla have a bad reputation for doing the detailing? On the phone today, it sounds like they subcontract with an outside detailing shop.
  20. T

Warning to those who use the Burlingame Service Center

I wish they had offered me the same courtesy! I guess what bothers me most is that their own owners manual specifically warns against using an automatic car wash that's not touchless. But, at least they're trying to make it right by doing the detailing. I definitely give them credit for that.

Warning to those who use the Burlingame Service Center

I just took my black Model S in for routine service to the Burlingame Service Center. It seems that their practice, now that the drought is over, is to wash the car in the car wash "down the street" at the end of the service. This is a car wash that uses brushes - clearly not a "no touch" car...

    Any real data on nags?

I recall that when 8.0 rolled out with the built-in nags, that there was some published guidelines about when the nags would occur. Does anyone remember these guidelines or have insight into real data? I recall the following: - Maximum time between nags is 3 minutes when driving above a...

Blackvue: Impact detected in parking mode

That's pretty funny! Although was it truly this event that triggered the "impact detected" warning, or was this just an automatic recording that occurred based on the bird's movement? You can check by looking at the recorded videos, and if this was marked as an "event" with the correct...

    Firmware 8.1 - Autopilot HW1

For what it's worth, I'll agree with those that say no difference in AP1 with the new update. Using 17.14.23, and with a limited (maybe 50 mile) test to and from work, AP1 felt exactly the same to me as did 2.52.22.

By far the smartest thing said on any of the posts so far!
  27. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

You're right. This isn't a peer-reviewed journal, so I omitted the raw data and statistics which I would otherwise have included in a published work. Perhaps I should have said "I have data. Please get some of your own."
  28. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Really? You want to claim proof based on one video? Or five? Or ten? That's not how statistics work. I can post videos of airplanes flying over my car and therefore "prove" that my tesla attracts flying vehicles. That's a classic example of selection bias. Alternatively, I could do a more...

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Come on. Tongue-in-cheek. I'm good at statistics, but not so good at figuring out how to change titles on a forum thread. You show me how to do that, and I'll update the title to something that makes you feel better.
  30. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Lighten up. Or at least understand what statistics can and can not prove. I didn't say my test proves anything. In fact, as I mentioned in my brief statistical discourse with Max, it's impossible to prove any null hypothesis. My interpretation is my own. My results in this small, uncontrolled...

Of course, I agree. How about I change the title to "The Best Objective Study To Date..."
  32. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Since clearly I did this test on the newest firmware (which I failed to mention in the opening post), I wonder if much of this issue has been corrected.
  33. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Max, the reason I chose this differential was entirely non-scientific. When I'm driving on the freeway and car sidles up to me matching my speed, I get a little annoyed. I didn't want the truck drivers to feel the same.
  34. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

I saw those, Max. It's not clear to me how to interpret this video. Using the defrosting grill as a marker relative to the lane, it appears that the car initially moves away from the truck, then overcompensates back toward the right. Although "truck lust" is possible in this setting, so could it...
  35. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Max, you're right about the science. And using statistical parlance, the null hypothesis is that "there is no truck lust." As you correctly point out, it's not possible to prove the null hypothesis (although we can have evidence to reject it, if the statistics are such). The best we can say is...
  36. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

Malcom, there's LOTS of video, and all of it is just me driving next to trucks. I can get a few sample clips together and post links to them, if you're that interested in redoing the measurements.
  37. T

The Best Objective Study To Date on Truck Lust

I wanted to put to rest once and for all the notion of "truck lust;" that is, the feeling that the car will creep closer to a truck in an adjacent lane while autopilot is engaged. The experiment: I used my S85 with AP1 driving on freeways in Northern California. I had a friend tailing me, using...

The New Evannex Kangaroo Pockets for Model S?

Since according to the EVAnnex instructions the bottom bar is mounted on TOP of the netting, what's your plan for securing the bottom? I don't think that the tape will effectively secure the bottom of the netting to the back of the seat.

    Recently Called List gone

You're right - I meant 7.1. So, we can do it from the steering wheel, but it will require a few manipulations: 1. Choose the bottom right button to change the scroll wheel action 2. Use the scroll wheel to find the recently called number 3. Choose the bottom right button again to reset the...
  42. T

    Recently Called List gone

In 7.2, a click on the right upper steering wheel button would bring up a list of my recently called contacts. Now, it triggers voice dictation. Any idea where the recently called list got moved to? The scroll wheel is the same as before, and the lower right steering wheel button brings up a...

    Theoretical MobileEye Question

In anticipation of someday getting MobileEye to see and respond to stop signs, I've been doing some unscientific testing. At "normal" residential road speeds, I find that I start decelerating by removing my foot from the accelerator about 150 or 180 feet before coming to the intersection. That...

    Homelink issues after upgrade

Am I alone in this? I've installed 3.16.17 - ever since then, homelink has not worked as expected. It still automatically opens the garage door as I approach it, but when I'm leaving the garage, I ALWAYS get the notice that "auto-close is skipped." Before this software upgrade, it was 100%...

    Can I reset preconditioning?

Thanks. Plan B was to turn preconditioning off completely. Looks like that's my next move.
  46. T

    Can I reset preconditioning?

Preconditioning timing has gotten weird. The morning preconditioning is pretty well timed for my trip to work, but the evening is way off. I find it on at 9 to 10 at night, and I have NO idea why it thinks that's right. I'm rarely driving at that time. Can I reset it so it learns again from...

    7.1 AutoPilot Nag

I agree in principle. However, the software is still presented as beta, and my optimistic suspicion is that hands-free driving will eventually come when the software matures. We're just not there yet.
  48. T

    7.1 AutoPilot Nag

Come on, guys. Think this through. The post by slevit1md is exactly the kind of thing that caused Tesla to implement the nag in the first place. People are openly posting ways to "beat the system" and Tesla is responding accordingly. If you don't want further restrictions, keep these kinds hacks...

    Driver-only unlock override?

Let's say I have things set only to present the driver's handle when approaching the car. I get in and drive to my destination, where I pick up passengers. Is there some sort of setting from within the car I can now activate to present the handles to my passengers when they approach?
