Cooling the Performance Model 3 On Track – An Overview of Our Modified Heat Exchangers

Agree with the nervous rear. I spun mine at 160km/h due in part to a little unsettling going into a corner, but I was also going really hard and put the boot in too early too hard with 30;70 bias. I am not convinced it wouldn't have done exactly the same thing without any regen, maybe 35:65...

Cooling the Performance Model 3 On Track – An Overview of Our Modified Heat Exchangers

In my experience, brake temps, followed by battery temp. To reduce brake temps you can use high regen settings, however, this introduces high temps in the battery. So, to keep the brakes happy, you need to cool the battery. Next I found was the rear motor. The only things that throttled the car...

You need to go to Andamooka! That's a real eye opener. I did Roxby Downs to Uluru with an overnight in Coober Pedy. Fantastic drive to see the scenery and geology change and WOW, is that rock amazing! Kata Tjuta is also magnificent. As a side note, managed to get an average of 7.8l/100km out of...

What does the LR Acceleration Boost cost in Australia?

    0-100 is 0-62mph. It does 0-60 in 3.7s and 0-100 in 3.9 as I understand it.

This is fantastic. I did a track day last weekend and was just looking at race render. Will try this too.

Track Day with the Model 3

Track day report: tl;dr it's amazing fun and fast but progressive. The car has more balls than me, I could have used it harder. In 2 hours I managed 77km around The Bend West circuit, a 3.4km track, so about 20 laps. I went to the supercharger 3 times with a total cost of $22.44. from a cost...

Track Day with the Model 3

I wasn't really looking at the other car from a which one's faster kind of thing, just the 3 and the setup he had for it.

Track Day with the Model 3

another track run with an M3P. He runs 39/45 psi hot on a 36 degree day?
  11. Culfy

Track Day with the Model 3

Cool, will lower the pressure a bit more then. The Shahins have of course, put an OTR there (where the Superchargers are) which is handy to change pressures! I was concerned with the stretched sidewalls low pressures wouldn't be a good thing, especially if I hop over a kerb. I'll see how it...

Track Day with the Model 3

That's super handy. I have the bend tomorrow so will lower cold tyre pressures to 36 to start with. It'll be 29 degrees so I guess heat will be a similar issue. I will see what I can do to manage it, the brakes going off seems to be a theme, though, so I'd rather have a hot motor than no brakes...
  13. Culfy

Track Day with the Model 3

Yeah, it just seems like it introduces a little tail wiggle under brakes if rear biased so it'll probably feel a little like the Astra Turbo used to. I'll get used to it. How did the brake discs hold up? Also, did you monitor the tyre pressures?

Track Day with the Model 3

He's not well informed. In track mode, it uses torque vectoring. When it's going straight he's correct, it's supposed to be AWD, the FWD/RWD setting is only when not going straight. That's by design and he noticed but probably should have known. On the regen braking, that would be very different...

Track Day with the Model 3

I've only ever had 1 set of cross drilled rotors. They started cracking at the holes and since then I've only ever had slotted.

This is a fantastic write up, thanks for sharing. My wait list at The Bend has come up for this Saturday so I'll be able to experience the same issues with the seats then no doubt! L Lotus are going EV only from after their "new" car that has just launched. Evora/Exige are no more. I cannot imagine them not doing a skateboard, though theoretically that's what the Tesla Roadster is anyway!

MY21 Q4 LR owners, check the app. AB might be available?
  21. Culfy

No, theoretically it's a bonnet. Otherwise wouldn't the same item on an ICE car be called a fronnet?

  23. Culfy

What does the LR Acceleration Boost cost in Australia?

The issue is apparently the 82kWh battery. Needs testing or something. Apparently this has happened before and it's expected it'll be available in the future, when they have done enough testing or got some data on the battery perhaps?

What does the LR Acceleration Boost cost in Australia?

AB is apparently temporarily not available on MY21 Q4 + builds.
  25. Culfy

Track Day with the Model 3

Why regen to minimum? Surely that will just lean harder on your brakes? I would have thought using the motors to slow you would take work from the brakes. I'd run maximum regen in track mode. Unless there is a reason I shouldn't?
  26. Culfy

Track Day with the Model 3

Also, this will save your brakes quite a lot I'd expect.

Track Day with the Model 3

A part of me wants 19s for the road... only because these 20s are so damn easy to scrape. 2 wheels with kerb rash in a month of ownership (1 for me and 1 the other half) and neither from being really stupid. You only have to breath near a kerb and they are scraped. The rims stick out so much

Track Day with the Model 3

I'll be honest, I kind of expect this will be the case, and if the M3P likes track days, a set of semi slicks and a set of 4 wheels is on the cards. The next consideration should I choose to go down that path is to work out which tyres get the new smaller diameter wheels. Considering how it...

Track Day with the Model 3

Because they are from the US and only have a drag strip in mind? I agree. Not sure I'd turn off regen braking, I've learned to have my foot on the pedal 2-5% all the time anyway unless braking. That does the same thing. Especially with a LR with small brakes. I'd not be turning regen off at all...

I can only hope that these are put at places people want to stop (like at the seafront near cafes, near local cultural places, near tourist destinations, or where there is some local history to investigate (Woomera would have been fantastic for this, it's only 10km off the highway, possibly too...

Struggling between Model 3 RWD and AWD

I got the P, but as many people have said... if you don't need/want the performance or the flash stereo, the RWD seems to be pretty good value, especially since it's under the LCT threshold even with FSD and is eligible for rebates. I have only ever driven a P demo (and my own), so I can't say I...

  37. Culfy

What does the LR Acceleration Boost cost in Australia?

I find I'm using TACC less and less since it keeps braking and beeping at me as I steer around cars parked on the left hand side of the road. It needs to get better at identifying potential collisions (or more specifically, when the current trajectory is close but not going to hit the car)...

Hmm, sadly it looks like all delivered after 1/11/21. Mine had it already active, was Oct 31 build (delivered 15/12). Some others have had to request a service call to turn it on for free.

Driving yesterday with .7 the nagging seemed a little better, and it didn't slam on the brakes like it has done before. Mine does this too (though I've never seen it actually adjust the speed at all when TACC is activated like you describe). To change the TACC max speed when enabled, I touch the speed limit sign on the screen (after it changes). That then sets max to the speed limit plus your offset (in both our...
