    Tesla buying money guilt :-(

Of course I can tell the difference, you just don't like the answer. The Mazda I had (newer gen than the one from your pic) in some aspects was better and ahead of the Model S (both 2016 cars). Mazda had better interior, higher quality materials, way more solid feeling from closing the doors to...

    Tesla buying money guilt :-(

I went through a similar debate with myself a few years ago when I bought a Model S. It was the most expensive purchase I ever made but having joined the Tesla hype train long before that, I really wanted one. A little backstory, before the Model S, I had a 2016 Mazda 6 (new) which cost about...

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

Is it also a 75D? With your specs you should get more than I got for mine. With this market it's hard to estimate. Try a vroom appraisal. It's online, free and quick. You won't get too many spam emails from them after. I'll guess $47-48k :)

Anyone interested in this HUD for your model 3

On paper these HUDs look great and I may even try to pick up their night vision kit, but only after my new car arrives and I can make sure it won't obstruct view above the dash...

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

One more data point for those following, the car is already up for sale at the dealer. To summarize, I bought it from Tesla as pre-owned in December 2019 for $44k, I got $45k value for it as trade-in and the dealer sells it for $50k.

    $12K for FSD is insane

This is the only reason it costs as much as it does.
  7. cucubits

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

I would sell it. If something big goes wrong with the drivetrain/battery, you're screwed big time.
  8. cucubits

Interesting new way of classifying autonomous driving

I don't think Tesla will like this chart too much. If we go by the classification Tesla should be somewhere between 1 and 2. The car does indeed do the driving part but the driver still needs to have the hands on the wheel, not just eyes on the road.

    $12K for FSD is insane

    spot on :)))

    $12K for FSD is insane

FSD not being worth "xxxx" should really be common knowledge by now. It wasn't worth it ...oh, 6 years ago with their "coming soon" and "next year" promises. I'm having a hard time understanding why would anyone choose to pay for it at this point. It got more expensive and features got worse...

For Sale: 2019 LR AWD 18k miles

It would probably help your chances if you post an actual sale ad with details and pictures, not just a link to some external random site. I for one would pass over something like this if I were looking to buy...

Downgrading headlights (how do I read LIN signals)?

Sad to hear 2018 S lights are still bad. I had a 2016 and the terrible headlights were one of the reasons from my list for which I gave up and sold the car. It was light driving with a couple disco balls on the nose, very very poor design and the price they want for replacements is properly...

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

Another "Great news!" I finally got to drop off the Tesla at the dealer today. They wrote me the same 42k offer as we discussed in December, which with the tax offset on the new car, lands me right at about 45k. This is completely mindblowing to me considering that I paid 44k exactly 2 years ago...

    Snippiness 2.0

Hilarious that you think that. I don't know how the initial factory location was decided but I'm pretty sure Elon didn't go "oh thank the lord for california, otherwise we couldn't build this cool car"
  17. cucubits

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

This may not be the ideal place to ask but I'll try. Once I drop off the Model S at the dealer, how do I get it removed from my account? Do I need to call Tesla or does the dealer handle this? How do I make sure they won't start using it and charging it using my credit card from file, for example?

Switch to a Porsche Taycan or Audi E-Tron GT?

I don't think there's any misconception with this one. Germans are paying more attention to details, have better processes, better and stricter QA, it's just how it is. Probably Japanese makers are close 2nd to this up in the top. I've lived with a Tesla for a couple years and while it had...

Switch to a Porsche Taycan or Audi E-Tron GT?

If money and range were not in question - I would choose the e-tron GT. Purely subjective, I like how it looks. I'm also in the middle of moving away from Tesla, at least for a while, but for the time being I also lost a bit of confidence in the EV trend in general. If asked about a year ago, I...

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

Great news! The dealer got back to me and they are ready to give me $42k as trade-in. Considering the $2-3k tax offset, this is exactly in line with Vroom. This really is a great time to sell a Tesla... probably not to buy one.
  21. cucubits

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

I fully intend to. If by some chance the dealer matches this or gets very close (minus the tax difference for the new car) I'll go that way, otherwise, I'll go with Vroom. Wondering if they actually honor this in case it's some weird mistake....

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

 Just did the usual online forms for Vroom and Carvana. Got some insanely different results. Carvana is $34,380 Vroom is $45,000 If I didn't make any mistakes and the one from Vroom is real, I'm 100% taking it. There's no way the dealer will offer me this much... on the other hand...

    2016 Model S - trade in choices

The time has come to move on. I'm sure some of the regulars from here will be happy to see me go for my openly voiced, mostly negative, opinions on many aspects related to Tesla. Glad I can make your day a little brighter :) In all seriousness I don't dislike everything about these cars, I am...

Help saving a friend from buying a Porsche Taycan in Raleigh, NC

Sure. I've had a 2016 facelift 75D for about 2 years now. Before getting one I was the biggest Tesla fan but after actually living with one I couldn't ever be happy with their overall build quality, poor design choices, missing features which are present in much less expensive cars (proper...

One more vote to let your friend buy the Taycan. I'm about to trade in my Model S for a Porsche and I couldn't be more excited.

A relatively simple solution for phantom breaking from overpasses, why doesn’t Tesla do this???

What if there is a stationary object or a slow moving car right at the over pass? With this scenario there is a good chance it will ignore it and plow right in.

    2015 Tesla Model S 70D - Autopilot & Free Supercharging

If you do end up selling, please post a price here. It will help as a data point on what these go for nowadays. I'm very close to selling my 2016 75D and need to decide if it's worth going private or just trade it in.

    The Best Car Ever Made!

Half way through the post I wasn't quite sure if it's sarcastic or you're actually serious. Most of the points made are purely personal opinion and what works so great for you, it's possible won't work at all for someone else. I'm quite in the opposite camp. I also fell for Tesla's "calling"...

2 members have trashed my reaction score...

There's really nothing you can do about it. I'm ashamed to admit that I've been in similar petty downvote wars. It's just a pointless waste of time. Equally pointless to worry about these imaginary internet points which really have zero meaning. You're best bet is to block/ignore the two members.
  34. cucubits

    FSD subscription price

likely most FSD buyers are hardcore fanbois with the "give tesla a break, they'll get it done for sure next year" mentality.

    Supercharging in Texas

Did you actually look at some numbers? Clearly this depends on the type of ICE you consider, but you'd be surprised that the price difference for supercharging vs buying gas on long trips is not actually that big. You are saving a little, that's true, but you are also losing a lot of time...

    2016.5 P100DL+ White/Black 39k Miles with warranty

I don't understand why FUSC makes a difference. You're paying $70k for a car but kill the deal over a few hundred $ per year? On the other hand, if the intention is to supercharge every time for regular use or to save paying for electricity at home... that's really not how supercharging was...

    Need Insight...Model 3 vs id4

I saw an ID4 up close live for the first time yesterday. The build quality and materials are miles above tesla, no question about this. It was a joy to sit in and just touch things. Being built in Germany of course there are no panel gaps/misalignment issues. On the other hand, I'm not sure...

    Star Trek: Picard

Sad to see the direction they chose for Season 2. Traveling back to current times is always just a lazy cheat so they can avoid building proper sets and investing in good CGI... I'll probably watch it because it's ...Picard, but from the trailer I don't have high hopes. I have to admit I...

    Mobile Charger Strange Fault

Makes sense as most 110v outlets are on 15A breakers so you're probably right. The thing is, I know my outlet where I charge at is on a 20A breaker and the wiring is new, so I could safely charge at 15A with the old Mobile Connector. Had no issues with this for about 2 years. No matter, I...

    Mobile Charger Strange Fault

A quick update on this matter. I cleaned all the connections and it would still show the same fault more and more often. I went to the service center for an appointment (the emmc recall) and I told them about the Mobile Charger too. They checked it, found a fault, and gave me a new one. It's a...

    Mobile Charger Strange Fault

I think my Mobile Connector hates me! My usual charging routine is the slowest one of all, with a regular 5-15 outlet in the garage (I charge at 12A). It's a 2016 Model S and came with a Gen 1 mobile charger. Everything was fine up until a few weeks ago when the charger started acting up more...
