The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Same here. I was thinking something was defective on his until I read the posts about radar vs vision. Makes me glad I got mine when I did. Not to mention I paid a lot less and got it very quickly.

Will Elon Musk Finally Improve Tesla’s Service? | TMC Podcast #13

Thanks a bunch! I almost missed my x minutes of fame. Don't know how I missed it - I must have been doing something critical and not paying attention - or maybe I had to quit and never got around to finishing. Anyway, it's nice to know that sometimes I actually say something interesting. I'll...

Will Elon Musk Finally Improve Tesla’s Service? | TMC Podcast #13

Hi - Thanks, but where was my comment featured? On the podcast? I listened to it, but I don't remember anything familiar, although I listen while preparing breakfast, and may have missed it.

    2022.16.1.2 update is here

So far, so good. I haven't had mine fail for a week now - getting back to normal. I was also having problems with the BT mic not working on phone calls, which seems to work now after the update - so far. I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this, though.

Learn something new all the time here. Mine also has them. 😲 PS I'm joking, just in case.

    software update 2022.16.1.1

Are you sure your car has brakes?
  7. M

Is it okay to charge to 100% if I am immediately going to use it right away?

Hopefully I didn't miss any comments about this, but don't forget that you lose some efficiency (and maybe driving pleasure) charging to 100% due to no regeneration.

    Charging at New (old) House

FWIW, my wife's work is about 25 miles away, and we have been charging off level 1, 12 amps at 120v for 1.5 years (about 15,000 miles). We can fully recharge overnight, but don't need to because we can usually catch up on weekends. But if we need more, we just make a trip to a nearby...

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

Thanks, and this agrees with my understanding of the issue, although I didn't really know all the details of what the FSD capability package added since I don't have it. I'm really trying to see it more from an average new buyer's viewpoint who is less knowledgeable about the details. It's not...

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

I understand the intentions and fine print, but when you go to buy a Tesla, all you see is "Full Self-Driving Capability", which implies to the average buyer that it is capable of full self-driving. I had done enough research to know the actual facts, and the disclaimers, etc, but there are many...

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

I'm confused. My Tesla, like all others, came with Auto Pilot. Currently, you can choose to pay and extra $12,000 for "Full Self-Driving Capability" (their exact wording). It says nothing about beta. When I bought mine, I was told I could add FSD for $10K extra, but was told it wasn't nearly...

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

Not a lawsuit, I don't think, but Costco just sent out a letter to people who bought a certain cheese because it somehow omitted the warning that it contains milk.
  13. M

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

That's what I don't really get - why did the drivers leave AP on in an emergency situation in the first place? To me, having AP just abort seems risky. Even if it aborts 5 or more seconds before a crash, is that enough time for the driver to realize what's happening and take over - considering...
  14. M

NHTSA Close to forcing recall of FSD after more crashes

I don't have FSD, and I don't even use the basic AP that much because of over-attentiveness - I tend to exert too much control on the steering and AP cancels. So, I'm not really fully confident of technology's ability to take full control. Taking that into account, I wonder about why people...

Dash Cam Not Working Check USB

FWIW,I have the icon visible, and when I see the red X, I just format it (sometimes twice), without needing to remove it. But if you have any sort of hub or multi-device adapter, it won't enable formatting.

Tesla energy portion gone from Tesla app

I'm afraid that Tesla is like other software companies I've worked for where the head of the department/company is focused on only his own pet interest, and not the "unimportant" stuff like UI, etc. For Elon, it would be the AI software. Companies I worked for it was often the server side of...

    Bad AC Smell

I think there is a flaw in your logic. It's similar to arguing over whose problem it is if you run out of power. Is it the car's fault for using it, or the user's fault for not monitoring and keeping it charged? Since you have never had this problem, it may be due to location or driver's...

Elon: Less Work from Home, More FSD Beta | TMC Podcast #12

Some thoughts about working remotely (and what does it really mean these days)... Some factory workers might resent those lazy people who sit around at home and don't know what's really going on. Others will resent those lazy office workers who sit around drinking coffee and bullshitting, and...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

It's hard to say which is best, but the Lacie is certainly overkill. However, if it's not needed for your MacBook, I'd guess it would be OK. But if you're buying something to use, the SanDisk is much cheaper, and possibly more robust; it's designed for security cameras, etc, which do a lot of...

    Auto-launching Tesla app on Android

I thought at first you must have some setting wrong because I've never noticed a problem, but having lots of experience with embarrassing myself, I restarted my phone, and sure enough, it didn't work. However, it used to, and not that long ago. I used to always see the Tesla notification icon...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

I got rid of the thumbdrive from Tesla early on because it kept crashing and needing to be physically removed and reinserted. I did some research, and learned that some microSD cards are designed for lots of writes like security cameras, so I got a Sandisk high endurance (256MB) along with the...

    Elon Musk

You're a bit confused. This forum is not connected to or controlled by Tesla the corporation. Nor does this forum have any control over Elon Musk (does anyone?). So the policy of TMC is not controlled by his actions. And obviously, there is no ban on discussion about ELON in an ELON thread; to...

    Elon Musk

I'm pretty much in agreement with your opinions. The only part I wonder about is how much he's being a bully. I think he is too quick to say things without thinking about it first, plus his lack of social skills get him in trouble because he lacks a developed sense of empathy. I get the idea he...

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

EDIT Oops, meant "format" the drive. (Why no post edit option?)
  26. M

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

This is a workaround for the lack of a dashcam notification. I moved the dashcam icon (not sentry) down to the bottom toolbar so it is visible. If the dashcam has a problem, there will be a small red 'X' where there is usually a small red dot. If you can remember to notice this regularly, you...

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

I've noticed it has been taking longer lately to lock, but it seems to lock reliably, except possibly once... A few days ago, in my garage, I noticed that the app showed it was unlocked (fortunately, not an issue in the garage). My son had driven it the night before, so at first I thought maybe...

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

I haven't rebooted the ICE in a long time, but still having problems. Does the ICE fix itself after crashing?
  29. M

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

If you partition the drive, the car will not partition the drive. This was one of the reasons I gave up on USB music, because reformatting is necessary to prevent (or often fix) failure. The other reason was that the support for USB music seemed to really suck on the UI side.

Dashcam doesn’t alert when it isn’t working

I have had my Model 3 for over a year, and have never gotten these alerts. The only way I've been able to determine in advance that it wasn't going to work is by the dashcam icon, which has an 'X' in the icon where there is usually a red dot.

    Elon Musk

It's a shame that we've come to this, but I don't know the answers. Makes me kind of glad I'm now retired. People have to be so careful these days about political correctness and perceptions - it sometimes seems the cures for the past problems are worse than the problems, although it may be I...

    Elon Musk

The term itself may not have been so widely used, but the concept of public shaming and calling out of people for their actions was around long before the term became popular. Basically, I'm saying that many companies want to settle a case quietly to avoid any fallout, and that has been around a...

    Elon Musk

It's unfortunate that in today's climate of social media rumors accepted as facts that people have lost the ability to differentiate between speculation and fact. People need answers, and when they don't know the answers, they make them up. I applaud your healthy skepticism. Cases like these are...

200 miles review: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4

Well, lighter unsprung weight is usually desirable. I don't know if the difference in tires is enough to matter though. But it did seem to matter enough that performance cars used lighter magnesium wheels in the old days, and independent suspension. But perhaps with heavier EVs, the sprung...

200 miles review: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4

Why? If you buy them both from the same dealer, such as Costco, why does it matter? Don't any cars come with A/S 4s, or other tires? Seems like it would just be another tire to them, unless Michelin ups the price because it's used by Tesla.

Zoom out to nearby chargers in phone app

They introduced this "feature" in the previous version (4.8.0.1025) for both Android and IOS. I can get used to zooming in once, but the problem I've seen is that is keeps zooming back out without closing the app - sometimes while I am simply looking at it to see the location without touching...

Updated to Android app 4.8.0-1025, location is screwy now?

I normally use dark mode for everything since I got oled display because it uses less battery, and I usually prefer it now, even for reading ebooks - easier on the eyes. So I switched to light mode as a test, and it seems like the Tesla app stays in dark mode for everything, including the map.

Updated to Android app 4.8.0-1025, location is screwy now?

By the way, I used the service chat to report the problem, so they should at least know about it now. I'd say they aren't tested very well. In my experience, companies with more than one software product, such as client/server software, often focus on their most important piece, and something...

Updated to Android app 4.8.0-1025, location is screwy now?

Yeah, I was fooled. My wife's iphone had not been updated, and I forgot to check. I see now that it does have the problem. I can see where some might like it to start zoomed out so you can see where the car is, and I could maybe accept it, but it's too quick to zoom back out after zooming in...

    SplitVolt Review/Charging Option

Thanks, sounds like they may be smarter than I thought. I'm still considering my options, and considering that we don't use the dryer very much in favor of a clothesline, I might go for a simple outlet with a manual switch for the dryer, which is only about 20 feet from where the switch would be.

NEMA 14-50 Splitter for dryer + Tesla

The main problem with extension cords is they can be mistreated and damaged. As long as you are careful, and keep it away from moving objects, it will probably work forever (unless you constantly connect/disconnect, causing contacts to get loose).
  43. M

NEMA 14-50 Splitter for dryer + Tesla

Well, I wish that were true, but I've been around the block a few times, and I've seen some pretty sloppy work done by electricians to code. A friend of mine hired an electrician to put in a new panel, and many connections were loose; he had to go and tighten all of them. Fortunately, both of us...

5-15 110V garage wall outlet range anxiety or nothing to worry about ?

Really? Where I live, in the SF Bay Area, my midnight to 3pm cost at home is 23 cents/kwh. The nearby superchargers from 9pm to 11am are 24 cents/kwh. It used to be cheaper to use the supercharger than my home before I got the EV plan. There are level 2 chargers nearby that are free, or about...

    Anyone using Neocharge?

Will the Tesla try to charge if there is no voltage currently available at its input? I thought it might not, but I really don't know. I was worried it might think there's a problem with the outlet.
  46. M

NEMA 14-50 Splitter for dryer + Tesla

Why do you assume this? I'm sure he's not using some cheap 15 or 20 amp extension cord. They make extension cords that are heavier than the Tesla charger cord, I believe.
  47. M

    SplitVolt Review/Charging Option

I'm looking at solutions to share the dryer outlet as an alternative to new panel/service in my old house. Even if I went this expensive route, it seems like something similar to this splitter might save more money in the future over Tesla wall connectors, because it can be used to switch...

    Faster connections from Tesla App?

Well, that's not my experience at all. I can send a command, and have it fail without ever closing the app or phone at all. And when there is a long delay for the car to wake up, it doesn't seem to take very long next time I open the app soon after. But perhaps we're just not using the same...
  49. M

Updated to Android app 4.8.0-1025, location is screwy now?

Well, I just checked on my old Android phone before and after updating, and it has the same problem. Simply opening the map, zooming in, then going back to the main page and reopening the map will zoom it out, usually while you are watching. Very annoying. Iphone app seems to be OK, of course.
  50. M

    Faster connections from Tesla App?

Good point. I think that now it sends the command and waits a fairly short time for a response, and if the car doesn't wake up in time, the command simply fails. I think a good way to do this might be to have a status flag like "awake/asleep". Right before the car sleeps, it could set that along...
