2 EV Household - what else you got?

Interesting read about the Fiat, thanks :) Something not quite with your phantom drain I reckon - anything keeping the car awake? I had a look for my most recent "2 days in a row when did nothing" as most days, at present, I get some solar top-up, and I have this:

    Model Y UK Delivery

Unless something has changed (recent collectors can comment :) ) charge has been around 30% - you'd be hard pressed to get 120 miles out of that, and you would be flat empty at that point ... so unless by some chance the car is well charged then 180 miles isn't doable. I have seen collections...

Random delay when charging - New 2022 charge point regs now in force

It would be high on my list of criteria when I next change vehicle ... I have 2x PowerWall, but the battery size of an EV would be much easier to use to span an overcast summer day. For my PowerWalls to get through the night - from the time when PV starts to produce less than the house...

Random delay when charging - New 2022 charge point regs now in force

If my electricity supplier offers me a Time-of-Use rate I'll be very happy to install timers / schedulers to take advantage of it. Won't that me Most/Many people too? In terms of my EV then it seems pretty trivial to do that as I won't even have to buy some fancy-pants timer-switch (which would...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Sorry, forgot the pretty picture Top one is 5AM this morning, bottom is 10AM-ish Left shows actuals (well ... its Solcast's data for my region for what it thinks actually happened, I can use my own data for that too and see what variance I get from Solcast) Right is its forward prediction -...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes, I'm expecting that (although I was expecting to find some APP that I could pay real money for that would do the job ... seems that all the GitHub stuff has not been monetised into an APP as yet ...) Very useful read of what you are doing, thanks. I'm a database developer by trade, so able...

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

No more than once per 1,000 miles and only ever when passing a juggernaut ? for someone doing 10,000-ish miles a year that's once-a-month at the most. What I seem to reading here is some people who have far more trouble than that, as in "every trip" I've had people here telling me that the...

2 EV Household - what else you got?

I wonder on that point ... For a new learner driver it seems to me that you have to learn both the road-craft and also the clutch / gear-change thingie. If you take away the gear change that must be 50% of the stuff that is hard to do at the outset? And will youngster's today ever drive a...

    Road Trip Checks

"Nearby", yes. Although nearby can be very close - elsewhere at the same motorway services, for example When it comes on there is "click to cancel", but not sure how you would then turn it back on (other than deselect / re-select the Supercharger in Satnav) Yes (more to make the stop...

What happens when you drive from UK to Europe? Headlight? Self drive overtaking?

I've heard people with subscriptions saying it isn't that great (in "real time mode" in terms of route planning / re-planning / re-routing), but if it will give you stall availability that would be handy. Either way, you still have Tesla SatNav for consumption / range prediction :)

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I'm pretty sure I have that, but the car in front has to be considerably slower than my target speed. maybe I'm kidding myself - definitely remember when that OTA came in for MobileEye, so maybe I'm confusing it with that? Is that Tesla or Regulations? (Although if BMW can do hands-free below...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

My (subjective :) ) view: I upgraded my PV a few months ago (48 panels now), and added (to Tesla Charger) a Zappi at that time (assuming I'd be using its "Divert to EV when export detected") But ... I'm not sure I want to charge my EV at 1.5kW ... as I think the losses are significant. Thus I...

    [UK] 2022.16.x

Me too, except that on NoA when I get a nudge to chain lanes coming up to an exit the blindspot camera comes on (I have to confirm the lane-change, so I'm not actually in the process of doing that at that point), and I think that might be useful ... ... but I'm not sure I can see enough in the...

  17. WannabeOwner

What happens when you drive from UK to Europe? Headlight? Self drive overtaking?

I presume the APPs will show you realtime stall-availability, in which case I'd be keeping an eye on that to make sure they are operational (i.e. not-bust, rather than not-occupied, although some idea of number of free stalls over a period of time as you approach would probably be prudent) Then...

UK 2022 Orders to Delivery General Discussion

Made me ponder use of transporters: Southampton-Bluewater (Google maps, in a car) 1h41m (Bristol is the same) Southampton-Staines 1h01m 1 hour load, 1 hours unload, 8 hours shift - that changes the deliveries-per-shift from 1.5 to 2 ... ... and I expect that the access to Staines (looks a...

    Model Y UK Delivery

Seems to me that a common complaint here is "Other User has exactly the same options as me but I ordered first". Whereas actually there will be a lot more factors than Model, Colour, Trim, Wheels. Including EAP / FSD, Payment method, Collection location and Customer Profile, Trade-in (None...

New Tesla model S owner here

No experience with MS, but on the M3 (optional extra back then) it was great, but the (included) one on the MY is positioned such that I can't see the top of the phone screen - annoying when using Waze and wanting to glance at the top 1/3rd of the screen.

    [UK] 2022.16.x

Interesting points George, thanks. I think on the "We never thought to put indicator on wing mirrors" they could use a Beep of some sort - if you signal and an object is detected in blindspot - just need enough of a nudge so the driver does a second-look. But. :) There are plenty of driver aids...

    Battery to charge the battery

Not THAT daft. Car will go more miles on a gallon of Dino Juice, in a Generator, than an ICE will go on that same gallon. Generator runs at fixed / optimum revs, and doesn't have to accommodate emissions control at "any revs" so is way more efficient than driving an ICE. I'm figuring this...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Not sure I'm talking about the same thing ... so put me straight if not. I've become of the opinion that the Charger having some control / "intelligence" is not what I want. I want the Car to decide that it will charge (well .. something telling the car to charge) For example, if I use Zappi...

Manual. I change to KM so that the speedo showed KPH I have always taken out AA/RAC (or something like that) for continental cover. What happens when you drive from UK to Europe? Headlight? Self drive overtaking?

Yes I recommend you use ABetterRoutePlanner to plan your route. You don't need to stick to it, but that will tell you if there are any sections without Superchargers, or a "stick to 50 MPH" stretch or "Charge to well above 80%" to reach the next one ... you might want to consider a Plan B...

    Q2 deliveries...who's getting acceleration boost?

its all in the 0-30 (or maybe 0-40). For overtaking it won't make hardly any difference. Depends what you are likely to use it for of course :) Over a marked 200M-ish length, all starting on cruise at 40 MPH, my Model-S LR and M3 AWD LR both get to exactly 90, and the MY AWD LR to 86. Plenty...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I've exported a fair bit this week :) ... and that's despite managing to drive far enough to put 75 kWh into the cars, as well as filling the PWs each day. Had the immersion on (we have solar thermal for hot water, so I doubt that had to work very hard!) and wheeled out the AirCon and ran that...

    Shockingly Reasonable EV article

I've had 156.05 kWh of car charging off the roof PV (bit sceptical about the 2 decimal places, but ...) this month so far. What's that? Somewhere between 500 and 600 miles ? :)
  33. WannabeOwner

    Price hike

I don't see how that is going to work. The only 2nd hand Model-Y's (for a given age / mileage) in a few years time will be the ones that were bought new "now". The market for 2nd hand will me much bigger than the market for new (and the availability of cars) is / was now. So likely that plenty...

    Model Y UK Delivery

I read that differently (probably wrongly!) as a collection-rejection for a car that already has a tow hitch fitted (although ... I thought that was an after-market addon only, not a delivery-inclusive one), and so they are looking for someone who will take it (and pay the tow-hitch uplift).

Seems a common assumption, but I think it may be way more complicated than that.
