New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I think we have talked about this before, but this it my Appendix I. I'm also on NEM-MT, was told I can't be on EV2A because NEM-PS is required. *shrug* I don't have the "Solar vs Export All" option in my Tesla App. I do have the Grid Charge option.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

How about this? Modify the prices in the rate plan so that the system thinks it isn't worth it to run your home off the battery in the "early shoulder" period. This would be during PV generation hours, so once your PW are topped off, the system would export any excess. Downside is it would run...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Unless the check got lost in the mail... I did not receive any payment for 2021. My Card says "2,128" fleet homes.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I'm aware of the Beta and participated. I was calling out the change in location of the feature as well as the change in the description. Previously it was described as being no compensation. The name "California Emergency Load Reduction Program" was also unfamiliar to me but I found this link...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I don't have anything labeled "energy exports" in my Tesla APP. VPP is a separate line on the home screen, and it's own section in the settings page.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I'm eagerly awaiting tomorrow (June 1st) to see how the switch to summer pricing changes my behavior. Since the roll out of the Utility Rate Plan (PG&E TOU-B) settings my Powerwalls have not been cycling. Also, with the recent app update, VPP got it's own line on the home screen. Clicking into...

Should I switch from PG&E TOU-C to EV2-A rate if I have solar + pw?

We moved into our house in Q1 of 2019 (E1). Installed PV in Q3 of 2019 (moved to TOU-B). Installed ESS in Q4 of 2019 (rate schedule did not change) - we have 3 Powerwalls, are on NEM-MT and received SGIP large scale residential [took forever, the saga is documented in various threads here.] I...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Minor Correction: I'm on TOU-B and have only the Grid Charging option, not the export one.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I also don't have a separate NGOM. I stalled a bit when my installer said it would be needed and then Tesla got approval on some piece of the hardware (I think the gateway) that PG&E accepted instead. My export credits allowed are limited to the estimated production of my PV.
  15. M

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I have 3 PW, very similar NEM2-MT agreement (allowed export box is checked) and have the option in the Tesla app.

What is your reserve percentage set to and why?

Off Grid as in you have no electrical service or put the Powerwall in "off grid" mode? Or Off Grid as in you have negligible draw from the electrical service?
  17. M

This "Credit" makes zero sense to me.
  18. M

    Estimated PV Generation PGE

If the information provided to PG&E is correct, it seems impossible to ever exceed their estimated generation. Your home loads are behind the meter, so unless you are adding some kind of rogue generation, or have literally all home loads turned off how could you even approach the generation...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

The article read to me that they were shutting it down due to unreliability of that series of turbine and inability to respond to changes in demand cycles.
  20. M

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

I think i'm onboard with your line of thinking for turbines as backstops. Are they being installed this way though? How much do we have to pay the builders of these plants to NOT run them except when we need them for emergencies. On another thread we were discussing the CA curtailment of...

And you are telling all of us that CAISO does everything they can technically to maximize renewable generation sources? I don't buy it... My bet is that there are contractual constraints or gentleman's agreements to maximize the profits of the fossil fuel plan generators. If you have insider...

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=45956 "Part of what has made the growth in renewables possible is the ramp rate of natural gas. The ramp rate is the speed at which an electricity generator can increase (ramp-up) or decrease (ramp down) generation. Coal and nuclear plants have...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

I am not. I understand the tactical reasons why renewables are currently curtailed. If maximizing renewable generation was the strategic goal then contracts wouldn't promise generation levels to fossil fuel plants which also could be curtailed.
  25. M

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Exactly; they don't actually care about maximizing renewable energy generation. They care about lining the pockets of the fat cats that kick back and lobby.

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

The reason I posted my 2021 stats earlier was to show that even with a system that produced 94% of my home energy use, my home still sourced 42% of it's power from the grid. (My PV destinations were Home 32%, Powerwall 34%, grid 34%). Again I am PV + ESS so not the same as everyone's situation...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

For me in 2021 according to Tesla app (with a 11.6 kW PV system and 3 PW) PV System 15,390 kWh generated 4,924 kWh went to home usage 5,233 kWh went to charging the powerwall 5,233 kWh went to the grid Home Consumption 16,320 kWh used 4,896 kWh from Solar 4,406 kWh from PowerWall 6,854 kWh...

He only had to pay PG&E $110. He still paid for the ability to generate that 11,000 kWh.
  30. M

Why is the grid supplying energy during peak rate?

Are you using one of the Tesla pre-set rate plans based on your provider? Or did you program in the TOU yourself? Mine (PG&E TOU-B) doesn't have enough price difference between peak and off peak to cause the system to cycle during the winter period (8 months of the year). I've had my PW for 2...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

What would you estimate the R rating to be when you opened up the walls and what did you replace it with? When was your home built? Mine was built around 2005 and I think they did the bare minimum to code at the time. My AC units are super inefficient but they still run. The exterior doors...

    SPAN - Smart Electrical Panel

I have this Lumin system. Was a requirement from my 3rd party installer to have whole home backup even with 3 PW due to my old AC units that couldn't have soft starts installed on them. I suspect it won't be needed anymore when we get to replacing with high efficiency heat pumps, but I don't see...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

By your own logic, you are part of the problem if you charging from the grid when prices are low and using your ESS when prices are high. Shame on you!
  34. M

    NEM2 Modification of System

Are you saying that only my PV counts as “RGEF” in this context? I thought that the PW were RGEF which is why they were required to be on the nameplate form and calculation.
  35. M

    NEM2 Modification of System

As discussed on other threads, my NEM-MT nameplate rating includes both my PV (11.0 kW) and my 3 PW (15 kW). Based on what is written here I was curious if the following "modification" would meet the requirements: 1) Remove one of the PW (leaving 2) 2) Installing approx 6 kW more PV (I don't...

    PG&E Rate Plan

I've participated in a few threads in the past exploring the different PG&E rate plans for PV + ESS. I'm currently on ETOUB (M-F 4-9 pm Peak, everything else Off peak). With the roll out of the Tesla App rate plans, my system isn't cycling during winter because of the small price difference...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Even the first calculation would be crippling to the ROI of the system. Here's my first full year NEM true up. I'd have to go back and look at every month's statement to confirm, but I'm pretty confident that we never drew from the grid during peak times. Tesla App says calendar year PV...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Plugging in my situation to your scenario 11 kW PV with 3 PW after incentives: 47,500 Production: 11 x 1500 kWh/year/kW x20 = 330,000 kWh (BTW, in 2021 my PV system underperformed this calculation by 2k kWh and in 2022 we are still about 1500 kWh under)) Cost per kWh over 20 years: ~$0.14/kWh...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

CA clearly doesn't use their gas tax on infrastructure. The roads around here have massive potholes that go unfixed for long periods of time. Who do you think that hurts the most? I have good tires and can afford to have my vehicle's alignment fixed if it needs it. Many vehicles I see taking...

My Gateway was connected to my IoT network at installation but had fallen off and I didn't really care. The setting in the Tesla App wasn't able to see my SSID even though it is being broadcasted. Manual entry of the SSID, password and encryption version worked.

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

Well... exactly :) I was going to say the purpose of the estimate is to prevent people from getting PTO with a small PV system and then adding lots of extra panels.. haha but we all knew you were trying to get PTO and not trying to pull a fast one
  45. M

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

Allowable export is vastly higher than I have ever exported, because my house uses power. :p I believe it's based on pvwatts estimates for your address.
  46. M

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

My only complaint on that is that they can't do the true up on the first of the month. I'd like my reports to match theirs slightly... But at least now your allowable export calculation will be right sized.

Will a Tesla powerwall work for me?

Theoretical Question: My 3 PW setup has a Backup Gateway (or Gateway1?) and a separate panel that has: one breaker for each of my powerwalls (3) one breaker for each string of my PV (3) one breaker for my PV monitoring system (non Tesla) What would be the difference between setting up an...

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

Not surprising, but as long as it doesn't cause you to get denied the PTO overall... it's a small drop in the bucket. *fingers crossed*
