Model S 'Vent' only opens windows but does not close them?

When one buys a $100k car that creates certain expectations. When that person discovers that reality does not match expectations they will start to complain. Case in point: my “cheap” 2006 Audi S4 did have the roll up and down function through the remote and my expectation was that a more...

I don’t believe the legacy X/S have this feature.

2022 Apple CarPlay update vs Tesla UI

45mph on the Embarcadero?! So, that is what Apple developers do at night - street racing :)

    2022.16.1.1

I had a similar problem a while back. I can hear the actuator but the door doesn’t open. It turned out to be a tiny misalignment of the door against the quarter panel. In hot weather the different in expansion between plastic and metal was enough to get the door stuck against the panel. Used a...

    2022.12.x

The left one shows when you open door or (f/t)runk, or when you are close to something. The central one turns around and shows on the road when driving - similar to 3/Y.

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Absolutely right! I am just waiting when they decide to move from color icons to black and white; or the debate between 2D and 3D icons; round or square corners… Honestly, the designers have too much time on their hands.
  7. B

    2022.12.x

Just opened the door :) Yes, it is the instrument cluster screen of MS. Anyway, the two cars were the same color before V11. Now, they are strikingly different. I am wondering which one is mine and when they will find this bug.
  8. B

    2022.12.x

Well, I find it kind of interesting. In reality, the color difference is even more striking.

Tesla service forcing me to update to v11

FWIW, MS still has phantom braking with V11. But I agree that now, after 6 months, V11 is close to where V10 was. Plus Sonic The Hedgehog, of course :)

Tesla service forcing me to update to v11

Sorry! Look at it from the bright side. At least they gave you a perception of choice. And you will get Sonic The Hedgehog :) So many options… With the latest update the firmware is somewhat acceptable, albeit still worse than V10. However, it seems that they are bringing back some of the V10...

    Tesla Broke Off-Peak Charging

The charging interface on both the car and app are black magic for me. That is why I left it on scheduled charging only - the only option I could comprehend. In general, the Tesla UI is very strange in quite a few places. Obviously, the designers inhaled/ingested something while they were...

    2022.12.3.1

I just completed a long drive on 2022.12.3.2. I think that the FSD is more erratic than before - it moves uncomfortably close to the lane borders. Also, when going through a curve it does not follow the apex like before. It is very strange - almost like driving straight until it gets to the...

    v11 software update SUCKS

Do you mean more than the split HVAC? As in passenger is 120’F and driver is 20’F? I have not seen that in any car.
  14. B

    2022.12.3.1

The site has Legacy S/X, S/X and new S/X. What is the difference?
  15. B

    2022.12.3.1 / Model 3 / Seat Warmer App

I think it is more complicated than that. In split HVAC it will always show both. However, in joined HVAC I had occasions when I sit in the passenger seat, no driver, and the icon does not show up. Still trying to figure out the exact logic
  16. B

    v11 software update SUCKS

On many occasions aircraft accidents happen because the “system is smarter than the pilot” - when engaged it does unexpected things; when disengaged it does not return in the previous state. When I turn the HVAC to manual I don’t want it to be smarter than me - no AC means no AC, regardless of...

    v11 software update SUCKS

Yet, it took us 6 months to get back to about the same place where we started. Epitome of “features for the sake of features” that is so prevalent in modern software. How many times Apple switched between square and round icons?
  18. B

    2022.12.x

I am still working through the logic of the passenger seat warmer icon in 2020 MS. Definitely shows up in split HVAC even without a passenger in the seat. It also shows up sometimes in a non-split HVAC but it does not seem 100% dependent on someone in the passenger seat. Oh, the joy of...

Pre-refresh S / X now officially known as “Legacy” in terms of software

“Crowd sourced” - hence, my “gimmick” comment. It is interesting but cannot be taken seriously - the logic behind the commands is weird; there is no 100% availability; it has issues with accents; it has issues with accuracy. No, it is nowhere near the GUI, it cannot be used reliably to control...

Pre-refresh S / X now officially known as “Legacy” in terms of software

They constantly change. There is no officially supported list from Tesla.
  21. B

    2022.12.3.1

That may be intentional. A lot of luxury cars had this for decades - light steering at low speeds (e.g. turning in a garage) that stiffens at higher speeds (e.g. on a highway).
  22. B

Pre-refresh S / X now officially known as “Legacy” in terms of software

Voice commands do not have much logic to them and do not work without cell coverage or when on a call. Interesting gimmick, though.
  23. B

    2022.12.x

This was exactly the issue with the defogger/defroster in the previous version. Hopefully, they will fix it in the next one. I maybe nitpicking here but the only way to use the steering wheel warmer is if it is on the launchpad. I do not use it much and prefer for it to stay off of the...

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

Where it was, not where it should be. They spent probably a year worth of efforts to get close to where they started. Instead of improving V10. While V10 was better than V11 it was far, far away from what they could have done with the UI. Equally frustrating to the V11 debacle is the fact that...

    Poll on V11 interface

In real world (I believe in medicine as well but I am not a doctor) things have nuances; only kids work in absolutes. Both V10 and V11 can kill you. However, V11 is objectively _more_ likely to kill you because it requires longer (two taps vs. one) and less intuitive (turning on unrelated...

    Poll on V11 interface

Refreshed MS have always been on V11 or something like that, so there were no significant changes for them, aside from fixes. As of 2022.12.3.1 my car is almost as V10, except that the launch icons are smaller and there is more empty space between them. The entertainment section is less usable...
  28. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

I am scratching my head to find what were the improvements on legacy MS for the past 2 years. More aggressive regen (which I really like but other cars have that configurable anyway) and Sonic The Hedgehog come to mind. What am I missing? I have a feeling that it has been mostly moving stuff...

    Poll on V11 interface

I wish they left the legacy software in the legacy cars
  30. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

Initially, I was in the same camp, assuming that updates, overall, have a positive trend. I guess, I was influenced by software companies like Apple. Now, given Tesla track record, I am not so sure.
  31. B

    Poll on V11 interface

No, it does not “suck”. From UI usability perspective (which is important for things like driving a car) it is worse than V10, which was not a leading UI either. Instead of fixing V10 flaws they made it worse with V11.
  32. B

No volume for theater with 2022.12.3 update

Did they fix the defogger behavior? In 12.1 it was working only if the HVAC was on even though it changed colors to blue/red. Does it turn on the HVAC now?
  33. B

    Poll on V11 interface

I noticed a common theme. People who disagree with V11 design philosophy present objective arguments: more taps = more distraction = more danger; functions that driver cannot use are more easily available; the logic is not common; etc. People who defend V11 philosophy present subjective...

    Poll on V11 interface

Yet, you are judging a study by a well established scientific body without even reading it. It is only an example of a body of knowledge on the matter that you are not aware of. Nor Tesla UI designers, obviously.
  35. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

MS had rain sensors?! I didn’t know that. Can they be retrofitted on more recent, full wheel models?
  36. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

I hope you are correct and the sloppy development (not only design - they regularly introduce regression bugs) is limited to the UI. My comment was related to the UI development. I do not have information about the rest of the stack. I can only deduce from what I see in the UI and that may be...

    Poll on V11 interface

You should really read the MIT study on multitasking and distractions. Hint: people are not very aware of the fact that they are distracted. They think they can multitask and quickly switch between tasks but that is not true. Google it. It is a well known study in the field. Which function in...
  38. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

At least pressing the start button opens the start menu. If Tesla designed it it would open the clock settings and only if the laptop is unplugged.
  39. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

The issue is that Tesla sucks as a software company. This is more of a garage startup behavior.
  40. B

    Poll on V11 interface

Preference is subjective; longevity of distraction is objective. There are studies in the field of psychology about distraction effect. It is not linear. Doubling the distraction results in more than doubling of re-adjustment time. You can Google switching cost.
  41. B

    Poll on V11 interface

In cases when there is no coverage or you are on a call it may take a loooong time :)
  42. B

    Poll on V11 interface

It is a degree, not absolute. The argument is that, for the same functionality, V10 required shorter distraction than V11. Longer distractions = more dangerous.
  43. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

It is not my personal opinion - this Internet, incl. this site, is full of a lot of objective information about the mess called V11. As for dieselgate, yes, it is a shame what they did, no doubt about it. It is a bigger mess than V11, for sure, magnitudes bigger. But they handled it much better...
  44. B

    2022.12.x

I guess they changed something between 2017 and 2020. The only way for me to get the second seat warmer is to have a split HVAC - no matter if someone is sitting in the passenger seat or not.
  45. B

    2022.12.x

    Which year is yours?
  46. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

I can see your point but not for the V11 related treads. The others look very similar to the forums I am used to - someone has thirst for knowledge and they get either direct advice or a discussion that helps them answer the question. V11 treads are different - people have very legitimate...
  47. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

Attempts to fix something that you broke is not an improvement. Attempts, because the re-introduction of seat warmers and defoggers also brings weird and complex logic that I have never seen in a car before. As for selling the car - if there was an EV alternative I would have been long gone...
  48. B

    2022.12.x

No, the passenger seat comes up only if the split HVAC is enabled - regardless of the occupancy status.
  49. B

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

“Fix” is a strong word for what they did. Yes, the seat warmers and defoggers are back (hurray!) but they work in “strange and mysterious ways”, different and more complex than any other car I have driven.
