Switch to a Porsche Taycan or Audi E-Tron GT?

Is that a MINI Cooper SE in the corner of your profile photo? :D

what is the true cost of owning a Tesla MX ?

IIRC Lexus LS air suspension has some problems around 100k miles too. I would be interested to know if there is an AS system that can truly go 200k miles without question. The Tesla MX never struck me as reliable, or having low cost of ownership, but I suppose if you're coming from a MB G-Wagon...

Congratulations to the Porsche Taycan folks as the current EV Cannonball Run record holder vehicle!

Sure, more values would be great. The problem is EPA doesn’t even have consistently on a single dimension, likely because they allow automakers to choose from multiple test cycles. (FYI, the Bjorn tests use 2 speeds, 90 and 120 km, and cold/warm weather conditions)

Stunning Lucid Air Review Video w/Plaid

Isn’t it on every Model S and X? That’s what the website shows. Got a pic of normal steering wheels in those cars?

Stunning Lucid Air Review Video w/Plaid

That motor looks like half the size of the Taycan motor, and it has almost the same power output as a Turbo S - in one motor. Lucid has given us something very special.

I posted an ad before delivery to sell my model 3 and Tesla is now refusing to sell the vehicle to me

Truly is! Who would have thought Tesla was organized enough to pull this off? Resellers are the worst though and I'm glad they caught it. Not only would they make a profit for doing nothing, but it would add another owner to the VIN, and remove Lemon Law protection for the first real owner.

Sold my Model S, bought an Ioniq 5

The main point is the EPA range is useless for comparing cars. Efficiency will come into play for cross country road trips, but day-to-day it doesn't matter much. What matters more IMO is the Mach-e is the same price as the Y, but still eligible for the $7500 federal rebate.
  8. P

Sold my Model S, bought an Ioniq 5

Yes, I agree completely. EA for some of us is bad. It does, but of course it is not activated yet. I mean, why activate it before selling the car? - hyundai execs, probably.. lol :) That will depend on the specific car. Porsche owners report very good experiences with initiating charges...

Sold my Model S, bought an Ioniq 5

I don’t trust the EPA numbers at all. The Model Y has a better rating than the Mach-e, yet the Ford goes further in independent testing. The Taycan has a 200 mile rating, while it easily achieves 1/3 more in the same driving conditions Teslas require to meet their EPA rating. Too many...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Sell. You will get serious value right now. I had this issue with the Audi e-tron, and felt the exact same way in the Model Y (multiple tests in different cities). It doesn't get better. My only regret is trying to stick it out.

    Model Y LR vs. EV6

For me it's EV6 all day. Faster charging (18 minute 80% charge), better ride quality, quieter, nicer interior appointments. The V2G function is also pretty cool. The Tesla network is still unbeatable though.

Any interior dB readings for 2020?

Some newer luxury ICE cars are eerily quiet even at low speed.

Switch to a Porsche Taycan or Audi E-Tron GT?

Thanks for mentioning this. Initially I read the first few posts and clicked off. Just read through everything and it was certainly worthwhile.

    Procedure for Selling MY

They’re selling that config for $68-73k right now. Absolute madness. Still an amazing deal you got. Bummer to whoever spends $73k on it.
  17. P

    Procedure for Selling MY

Not the OP, but I have sold recently to CarMax. Take $3-5k off the going rate. They are sky high right now. Could even be better than that for Teslas.
  18. P

High pitched noise from drive unit

Definitely sounds abnormal. Have you posted in the Model S forum?
  19. P

High pitched noise from drive unit

Do you hear it in that entire range from 80-130 km? That does not seem normal to me. I remember a couple very annoying resonant areas around 67km and 130km, but it was otherwise quiet (Model 3 dual motor). The only problem was cruising at those particular speeds.
  20. P

    Procedure for Selling MY

If that's the case, you may be able to work something out with that store by calling the sales team. Just a thought.
  21. P

    Procedure for Selling MY

Did the OP at least take it to CarMax? They are giving great value for all cars, especially Teslas. I attempted to sell private party and got 10-12 lowballers. CarMax gave me exactly what I listed the car for. Completely painless. They didn’t even drive it. As far as FSD, even Tesla...

Model Y makes hum noise all the time

Have you considered selling the car? In this market you will likely turn a nice profit off of any Tesla, let alone the Y. CarMax is completely painless. (Apologies if this was mentioned earlier.) Mentioning this because Lemon Law was brought up. LL can be a long and arduous process and the best...

Tesla Model Y Windows Shatters on its Own

You're right. If they knew the window couldn't roll down during an update the screen should clearly say "Warning: opening door during update may break window glass." I don't see how anyone would know this in advance.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Looks like this may also be a problem with the Taycan Cross Turismo. Two owners are complaining about a buffetting noise (with windows up) and ear pressure.

Has anyone found relief by completely blocking off the rear storage area, as if it were a sedan?

Edmunds Review - Teslaraiti follow up. I'm not the only one.

The Edmunds video is the worst kind of transparent clickbait I have seen from a car review. Just absurd and frankly embarrassing. Tesla really has a way of bringing out the crazy in otherwise reasonable people. And this is coming from someone who prefers the Taycan and EQS.
  29. P

Anyone else bothered by EV noises?

Compared to gas cars EVs are quieter overall, but they tend to make some more noise (motors, inverters) in the 1-5kHz range. Human hearing is particularly sensitive to that range for evolutionary reasons (babies crying, etc.) EVs also lack the masking effect of an ICE engine. Imagine hearing...

  33. P

Sound dampening for sharp/abrasive motor sounds?

Yes that's what I was thinking too. I bet the OEMs could engineer a solution that makes it imperceptibly quiet like in the Mercedes EQC, but I would settle for a reduction. I haven't looked in that direction yet, but from what I gather those systems can be expensive and tough to tune. Not...

Sound dampening for sharp/abrasive motor sounds?

I am looking for products that can be added to the engine bay of an EV to quiet the motor and inverter noises. High frequency motor whine tends to grate on my ears. The noise is in the 1000-5000 Hz range. Has anyone attempted this type of mod? I have noticed that high frequency noise is a...

Why I stopped caring about luxury EV's

For whatever reason all EVs tend to bother my ears. Trading a luxury ICE for an EV motor is a minimal sonic benefit, and you get some other “EV sounds” especially in the high frequency realm. Nothing beats a Mercedes or Lexus for comfort IMO. I have also had endless problems with my e-tron.
  37. P

    Mini Cooper 2Door SE

I have had one for almost a year. It’s an amazing little car, and quite a deal after tax credits (and state incentives if that applies). You’re right about the range being conservative. Do you have any specific questions? (Just saw this is an old thread)
  38. P

    Why should I get a 3 instead of a Y?

3 has a track record of being one of the best EVs for several years now, plus it has more real world range.

ETA for refreshed 2021 showroom test drives?

That sounds a lot more believable. So about a year off from the original estimate I was given :)

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Probably wouldn't hurt to get some professional advice. This company looks good and they have a similar product: Second Skin Audio: Soundproofing & Noise Control Solutions The problem here is likely not one they have come across, but who knows.

I wish the Model 3 had the new Model S steering wheel

And the car will fight to keep you in lane if you miss hitting the signal button...

ETA for refreshed 2021 showroom test drives?

Anyone know when they might hit showrooms? This year, next year? Last I heard from Tesla the estimate was February 2021. :P

I found a 3 bar leaf on autotrader, 22 miles on the guesometer.

Wow, never realized there was a distinction... Gonna have to look at my own car warranties more closely!
  44. P

I found a 3 bar leaf on autotrader, 22 miles on the guesometer.

Isn't the battery 8 years? That would be some time in 2021. I purchased a 2019 car "new" in 2021 and the warranties all started on delivery.
  45. P

I found a 3 bar leaf on autotrader, 22 miles on the guesometer.

This is terrible. Somebody is going to buy that car and end up with an $8k paperweight unless they can act on that warranty before it runs out (if it hasn’t already). We need battery health on the CarFax report.
  46. P

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

That's interesting, I haven't come across many Leaf/CHAdeMO checkins, but that could be a regional difference. I just got back this evening from a 1200 mile round trip in my e-tron. On the way there is was a complete mess. Every station but one had issues. On the way there we had a stopover at...
  47. P

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

Thanks, yeah I see. The focus on cities is frustrating IMO. I see Denver has almost 20 EA stations, with about 6 more on the way. Meanwhile there are many big gaps across the country.
  48. P

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

Is there a way to see where upcoming stations will be located?
