    Bubble on instrument cluster

Post 98 of this thread mentions MCU3 - so that's where I got that info: Bubble on instrument cluster There is no way that I am going to take my own dashboard apart. It does seem like the cost is around $2000 or more. I wonder if it makes sense to have them replace this cluster screen and the...

    Bubble on instrument cluster

I just had some bubbles appear on my screen - just under the time and at the extreme right edge of the screen. My car is a Model S P85D which has had the Ludicrous upgrade. It was made in Dec 2014 and delivered in Jan 2015 I am no longer under warranty. Anyone know how much you have to pay...

    Ottawa to Victoria in a M3 SR+

Ottawa to Thundery Bay is a LONG stretch. 1500km on minor highways - it isn't like you're driving on the 417 for the whole stretch. With a bunch of stops at Superchargers. That has to be at least 18 hours. Google Maps says 16 hours but that is without any stops for charging, food and bio breaks.

Premium Connectivity Toronto to Windsor 401k

I getting connectivity issues on a regular basis where my car will drop from LTE to 3G and then nothing for a while and it will come back. IMO Teslas don't play well with the Canadian cell phone providers for some reason. These are at times when my phone maintains a strong signal. FYI I have a...

    Supercharging in Canada Too Expensive?

I disagree - I have owned a Tesla for 7.5 years and 99%+ of my charging is done at home. And the rare times that I use a Supercharger my Supercharging cost remains at 0 since I am on the bleeding edge.

    Cross-Canada Public Charging Networks

Does anyone else find it a pain in the ass to use these services for the first time? You have to go to the app store, find the app. In the case of Flo you have to scroll through a bunch of apps that want to track your menstrual cycle. Then you have to create an account, get a verification...

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

On the NB-Nipigon route isn't there a 200km stretch with no gas stations from Hearst to Longlac? This will be a tricky stretch - one issue can be insufficient power lines.

MLB Blue Jays broadcasts on TuneIn SN590 not working

Do you have Sportsnet TV on cable at home? It isn't ideal but maybe you can just get the audio by "watching" the video of the game on your phone via the Sportsnet app. You just have to enter credentials on a regular basis which is a pain. If you have Rogers Cable then you can enter that into...

Would we have access to more streaming when we drive our Canadian teslas in the the USA?

Speaking of Rogers, does anyone else find that the Tesla's3G/ LTE radio goes to 0 bars on a fairly frequent basis and you lose the signal. This pretty much never happens on my phone, but this has been a consistent problem in my car for the seven years that I have owned it.

Gifting TSLA shares to family members / minor children - Canadian Edition

If you are giving the shares to kids you might want to put them into a RESP so that any gains will not be taxable, and then you also may get a government contribution as well.

    Possible Location - Brockville Ontario

I doubt it. Apple is the biggest company in the world and they are the poster child for not playing nicely with others. Charging plugs being one great example.

Ontario putting $91-Million toward electric vehicle chargers at rest stops, parks

DoFo sure seems to have changed his mind on EVs. This is apparently different, and is in addition to, the ONRoute stops. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-ontario-putting-91-million-toward-electric-vehicle-chargers-at-rest/

Why isn't everyone as upset about the Supercharger increase as I am?

I am surprised that Tesla is taking steps to open up their SC network to other vehicles. To me their SC network is a huge competitive advantage. Or maybe they are just making token efforts and this will not happen for a long time.
  22. wayner

Why isn't everyone as upset about the Supercharger increase as I am?

I wasn't aware of those limitations as I have never used non-Tesla L3 charging. So I guess you can say that their are proprietary restriction on faster L3 charging. That being said, I would still take a Tesla with these restrictions and a fairly extensive Supercharger network, over non-Tesla...
  23. wayner

Why isn't everyone as upset about the Supercharger increase as I am?

It isn't really proprietary as Tela's can use third party chargers. If Tesla's could only be charged by Teala chargers then it would be proprietary.

Ontario Hydro charging network at 400 highway series rest stops

You will be fine either way but there are far more on the Buffalo route. If you cross the border at Detroit without a full battery pack you will likely want to stop at the Comber charger outside of Windsor as the next one is almost 200km away in London. That should get you to Port Hope - and...

Ontario Hydro charging network at 400 highway series rest stops

You will be fine although the first stretch from Detroit to London, ON is a bit underserved. After that there are lots of locations, assuming that you are staying along the major highways.

When will there be a Supercharger in Brampton ON?

We are still waiting for SCs that were originally scheduled to open in 2017. That being said, there is one in Miss.

    Tesla Semi charging question

Thanks Mike - that makes a lot of sense. I believe here in Canada a local grocery chain has signed up with Tesla to test the semi. That makes sense as the semi would be used to go from the warehouse to the local stores and won't be driving that far in any given day.
  29. wayner

    Tesla Semi charging question

300 gallons of fuel is about 15-20X what a car has, correct? So wouldn't we expect to need a similar ratio of battery capacity on a Semi? So to charge the semi battery in the same time that it takes to charge a car at a Supercharger would take 15-20X power? Maybe a little less given what you...
  30. wayner

    Tesla Semi charging question

Bringing this back to life. How much power would a semi need while charging? Is about 2MW the right number? This estimate comes from assuming that a semi will need about 10X the power of a passenger vehicle and SCs provide about 200kW to Supercharge a typical Tesla car. So to charge five...

    SuperCharger - North Bay, ON

How much range does your car have? It is 153km from the NB supercharger to New Liskeard. If you aren't doing too much driving around New Liskeard you might be okay to get back to North Bay. There does appear to be one or two L2 chargers in New Liskeard as well.
  32. wayner

Ontario Hydro charging network at 400 highway series rest stops

It is a strange decision but I bet there is an issue on who is going to pay for them. Tesla now has a pretty good network of Superchargers along the 400 highways so they probably said "we're not paying". And as a Tesla owner I am happy to stop at the existing SC sites which are generally close...

Ontario License Green Plate Numbers Choices

What I was thinking is that they might go to GW or something like that. Or maybe any license plate starting with G will be a green plate. I don't know that there would be a backlash for VE but it doesn't really resonate with English speakers.

Ontario License Green Plate Numbers Choices

True if you assume that they use the French VE when the run out of the English GV, but I wonder if they will do that?
  37. wayner

Ontario License Green Plate Numbers Choices

Wonder what happens when we run out of green plates? There are 676,000 plates beginning with GV. Will they then force everyone to use VE? There are about 9M cars in Ontario so assuming that a very high proportion of Green plates are GVs then we run out of those at around 8% of the total...

    Supercharger - Kingston ON

I believe that this site has the V2 SCs. This is one of the older sites in Canada that has been around for several years. I got my car in early 2015 and I believe this site went live around 2015-6.
  45. wayner

    Supercharger - Kingston ON

And don't adjacent superchargers share the current - so if you and the guy beside you are charging on 3A and 3B that will potnetially slow you both down, will it not? I know that used to be the case.
  46. wayner

How to convince landlord to install NEMA 14-50?

Of course they do because DoFo has been very hostile to green initiatives and killed everything when he became premier. He is now changing his tune a bit with an election in four months. There is also the fact that Quebec continues to promote electricity in pretty much every way that they can.
  47. wayner

Agreed, but that section can still busy, particularly in the summer when there are lots of Americans coming up from Michigan.
  49. wayner

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

Maybe, but then why did Tesla announce them in 2017? And Tesla is announcing new sites very close to existing locations where there isn't currently a huge need, like Trenton and Gananoque.
