Ottawa to Thundery Bay is a LONG stretch. 1500km on minor highways - it isn't like you're driving on the 417 for the whole stretch. With a bunch of stops at Superchargers. That has to be at least 18 hours. Google Maps says 16 hours but that is without any stops for charging, food and bio breaks.

And Google maps says 227km.

I disagree - I have owned a Tesla for 7.5 years and 99%+ of my charging is done at home. And the rare times that I use a Supercharger my Supercharging cost remains at 0 since I am on the bleeding edge.

On the NB-Nipigon route isn't there a 200km stretch with no gas stations from Hearst to Longlac? This will be a tricky stretch - one issue can be insufficient power lines.

I doubt it. Apple is the biggest company in the world and they are the poster child for not playing nicely with others. Charging plugs being one great example.

I am surprised that Tesla is taking steps to open up their SC network to other vehicles. To me their SC network is a huge competitive advantage. Or maybe they are just making token efforts and this will not happen for a long time.

It isn't really proprietary as Tela's can use third party chargers. If Tesla's could only be charged by Teala chargers then it would be proprietary.

You will be fine although the first stretch from Detroit to London, ON is a bit underserved. After that there are lots of locations, assuming that you are staying along the major highways.

Thanks Mike - that makes a lot of sense. I believe here in Canada a local grocery chain has signed up with Tesla to test the semi. That makes sense as the semi would be used to go from the warehouse to the local stores and won't be driving that far in any given day.

How much range does your car have? It is 153km from the NB supercharger to New Liskeard. If you aren't doing too much driving around New Liskeard you might be okay to get back to North Bay. There does appear to be one or two L2 chargers in New Liskeard as well.

What I was thinking is that they might go to GW or something like that. Or maybe any license plate starting with G will be a green plate. I don't know that there would be a backlash for VE but it doesn't really resonate with English speakers.

Wonder what happens when we run out of green plates? There are 676,000 plates beginning with GV. Will they then force everyone to use VE? There are about 9M cars in Ontario so assuming that a very high proportion of Green plates are GVs then we run out of those at around 8% of the total...

I believe that this site has the V2 SCs. This is one of the older sites in Canada that has been around for several years. I got my car in early 2015 and I believe this site went live around 2015-6.

And don't adjacent superchargers share the current - so if you and the guy beside you are charging on 3A and 3B that will potnetially slow you both down, will it not? I know that used to be the case.

Of course they do because DoFo has been very hostile to green initiatives and killed everything when he became premier. He is now changing his tune a bit with an election in four months. There is also the fact that Quebec continues to promote electricity in pretty much every way that they can.
