Smelly stinky socks / mold in Model 3 AC

lol. so you don't smell the first blast of mildew?

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

I consider myself lucky with my Model 3 AWD - over 3 years I only had a) one interior trim piece lose / sticking out (from factory, Mobile Service couldn't get it to fit and ordered a new one) b) a few clips in wheel well missing (replaced myself) c) replaced damaged plastic covers under...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

lol. claiming that Tesla is no worse or better in interior quality/ fit&finish/ rattles than BMW is *reeeeeally* stretching it. Goes against most tests/ forums. Not to mention the "within spec" excuse the Service Center usually dishes out...

Vehicle shutting down warning [bad drive unit]

aaah... the issue is at least known and published by Tesla in China ( likely regulatory pressure) and impacting nearly 130k vehicles.... Tesla Recalls 127,785 Model 3s in China Due to Rear Motor Inverter Defect I'd bet the inverter issues / drive unit failures here on brand new 2022 cars have a...

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

all they need to do is more frequently float the same here. great product and even if you do not need it - you can help someone jumping their ICE 12V battery or use it as an emergency power bank.

Blog Musk Says Cybertruck Doors Will Open Automatically

stupid high tech solution prone to failure (mud, dirt, grime, salt spray, snow) when a manual door handle has worked just fine for over 100+ years...

Cybertruck - capacitive switches on yoke

yup. Towing beyond 100-150 miles requiring a charging stop is going to be a pain with all current EV trucks. Many stalls aren't set up for towing (pull through) and you'd have to stop more frequently than you want to. Unless there is a truck offering ~500+ miles of range (= maybe 200 miles...

    Model 3 at Lease End

unless you are doing it as a business expense or really want a NEW car every 36 months ... leasing is usually never a good idea.

Model 3 - Totaled or Repairable?

don't have to. the authorized body shop will send the offenders insurance the quote of how much it really costs and they will pay or total it. it's that simple. with the offender being 100% at fault the other insurance doesnt have many options. they can't even force you to go to a specific...

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

i would demand a new tire tbh. incorrectly installing a tire is kinda a big oversight and shouldn't happen. how hard is it to read inside/ outside on the tire markings before installing them?
  11. T

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

while this is certainly true for 2022 / 2023 and 2024 ... anything beyond that I wouldn't be so sure. Texas is building a ton of CCS charging stations all across the state over the next 2+ yrs with infrastructure bill $ and Electrify America intends to double their chargers by 2026 and just got...

Can I drive to the airport and leave my car with some company for them to rent it out?

no way... whatsoever. yes - turo and Co do offer insurance but not all damage shows up immediately... what if someone bottoms out hard on your Tesla or runs over debris and you end with deep gouges on battery pack? unless you crawl under your car after every rental you won't see it. and if 6...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

the Model 3P costs $63k ... the BMW i4 M50 msrp is $66k ... factoring in the $7500 tax credit you could equip the BMW all the way to $70k+ and still be on par with the Model 3P. but even comparing base to base... $63k isn't that much cheaper than $66k and should never be an excuse for lacking QC...
  14. T

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

please add: update interior + at least somewhat acceptable QC and some efforts to at least deliver cars where customers don't have to comb over 50 items using a check-list.... and: acceptable aftermarket service. hint: 2+ weeks wait for a windshield and "here's uber credits" isn't cutting it...
  15. T

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

at $63k for the M3P and zero tax credit left in the US ... you might as well get a *nicely* equipped BMW i4 for less (after the tax credit).

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

if "inside" is marked on the visible outside... they installed the tire incorrectly. not a huge deal but you definitely want to get it corrected. the inside of the pirelli p zero has "grip blocks" for better traction in snow.... you want to drive the tires as they are designed.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

"Ford will also have the software update available through an over-the-air update in 30 days for all current customers." so a Tesla recall being fixed by a OTA software update is "genius" but a Ford recall being fixed by a OTA update is "smh". Lol. ok. no bias there at all. The recall is...

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

can't say. they feel "tighter" though than the Michelin MXM4s. Priority for me was noise and efficiency ... otherwise I would have gone with a non "special EV" tire like CrossClimate or Pilot Sport.
  20. T

    EAP Return to US

L3/ L4 / L5 all push the liability away from the driver onto the manufacturer. So yeah... unless Tesla wants be in constant multi million $ litigation ... it's not happening. Also outside the US - even L3 needs regulatory approval. Mercedes had to get approval from the "Kraftfahrt Bundesamt" for...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

a $55k F150 will be a well equipped XLT with AWD or a bare-bone Lariat RWD. that's certainly not "extremely" nice. A Platinum or King Ranch AWD will run north of $70k and a AWD well equipped Lariat ~$60k. Ford trucks are certainly not cheap and Tesla won't undercut Ford Lightning by ($20k)...

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

can second that now a few weeks in. They are noticeably quieter on the highway - and *really* quiet on great roads. Efficiency seems slightly better too... I'm averaging 245 whereas with old MXM4s i was getting ~255... probably well within the margin of error but at least they are not *less*...
  23. T

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

if HVAC is running - main battery pack is actively "on" and car doesn't sleep. Same with sentry mode which requires the computer to constantly run - battery pack is also "on".
  24. T

    EAP Return to US

aaah... talking L5 right now when current FSD isn't even L3. yeah... by the time L5 "robotaxis" are regulatorily approved... the current Model 3/ Ys are already long at the recycling yard.
  25. T

    EAP Return to US

yeah. hands-free legally allowed vs. "keep your hands on the wheel at all times or the system will push out alerts and put you in timeout" ... *totally the same*
  26. T

    EAP Return to US

plus Ford's BlueCruise is comparable to SuperCruise and the Mach E / F150 Lightning will get it... but yeah... FSD Beta at $12k is a steal... won't even let you legally drive handsfree.
  27. T

    EAP Return to US

lol. $6k. 😅 meanwhile SuperCruise is a $2500 option in Cadillacs and BlueCruise even less. Unlike EAP both are actually true "hands-free" assistance systems...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

TFL got up to 170kw charge speeds and it still pumped at 130kw at ~60% SOC. That's not terrible especially holding 100kw+ very long.
  29. T

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

yup. in a world where they charge well over $60k for a Model Y ... the likelihood we will see a 200kwh pack in a Cybertruck is slim to none. Unless they brand it as PLAID and charge $130k+ ...
  30. T

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

they also "were" talking about a 300+ miles rated AWD Cybertruck for just under $50k ;) not happening at $50k (which would undercut Rivian and Ford Lightning by over $20k). Meanwhile a Model Y AWD runs at $66k ...
  31. T

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I'm pretty sure the Cybertruck won't come standard with that large of a battery. Stated capacity for the Lightning and R1T is ~130-135kwh (total pack, not usable capacity). if Tesla throws in a pack 20%+ more capacity ... the price for that vehicle would easily exceed $80k+
  32. T

Model 3 performance still has lumbar support and mobile charger?

question: did you order your vehicle before or after the announcement was made that mobile connector will be removed?
  33. T

Differences between 2019 and 2022 Model 3 Long Range AWD

other way round... in 2019 steering wheel was one last remaining "real leather" item which then later got switched over to "vegan leather" like the rest of the car
  34. T

M3 - Bunch of error messages when attempting to start vehicle

totally unacceptable. so an issue effectively making the car undriveable has a ~3 week wait time to get it even "looked at" ? and that's without parts being ordered/ repairs completed.
  35. T

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

heat does kill a 12V battery over time... but a 12V battery resides in the *hot* engine bay of an ICE car and doesn't die within 2+ yrs either. And those engine bays are hotter than even a Model 3 parked in the Texas sun will get under the hood
  36. T

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

so Tesla would be deploying 2 ranger visits and $200+ in costs/labor over just 4 years rather than installing a proper battery to begin with? Hard to believe that this is intended by the engineers. A 12V battery definitely should *not* crap out after just 2+ yrs.
  37. T

Differences between 2019 and 2022 Model 3 Long Range AWD

I do like the double paned front driver/passenger windows in the newer ones cutting back on noise and the slightly higher range. the blacked out trim is debatable for me. wireless phone charging is nice though and motorized trunk convenient. on the downside deleted radar / worse OEM tires (the...

Differences between 2019 and 2022 Model 3 Long Range AWD

Model 3 AWD now come with Hankook Kinergy GT tires and no longer the Michelin MXM4s ... big downgrade imho. The Hankook's aren't even rated XL ("good enough" I guess) and the reviews on Tire Rack are pretty poor. Aftermarket around $199 whereas the MXM4s are $285+. In the tire hierarchy I would...
  39. T

    Car likely totaled

that's why totaled cars are assessed at fair market value... if you can point the insurance to the fact that you can't replace your totaled car with a comparable vehicle (age and miles) - they have to adjust the value.
  40. T

    Filling tires using 12v

no it wont... when the car is "on" the 12V battery is constantly floated by the high voltage battery pack.

Vehicle shutting down warning [bad drive unit]

maybe they should prioritize service higher even if it means siphoning off a few hundred parts per month from the production lines (...) 2 weeks delivery time for a part being in stock at domestic factories is unacceptable. at least Hyundai has as an excuse that their EVs are made in Korea and...
  42. T

Vehicle shutting down warning [bad drive unit]

2 weeks to order a part which is used daily (!) by the thousands(!) in Fremont/Austin/Shanghai/Berlin. That's crazy stuff and shows the ignorance to customer service. I dont expect them to hold a few drive units in their SC inventory at all times... but maybe do a "rushed" order which shouldn't...

Water Leak [ingress during car wash]

yup - the Service level and attitude is in stark contrast to the prices they are charging for the vehicles these days.
  44. T

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

lol. yup... there's definitely supposed to be 4x bolts on each side under the "flaps" of the trim piece. I guess the SC just called it a day and installed the trim piece OVER the bolts to save time.
  45. T

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

not sure if I follow there .... how much is a tow to a service center if a dead 12V strands someones car on the road or away from their house? How much does a single deployment of a Mobile Service Ranger cost Tesla? Add that to the battery cost and an AGM style battery would definitely be the...
  46. T

Water Leak [ingress during car wash]

did you open a service request in the app stating the problem / w. photos. It is definitely not "normal" - and there's quite a few electronics where the glove compartment is ... so no... you dont want water coming in through there.
  47. T

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

and you are right... Tesla Model 3 now comes with Hankook Kinergy GT tires instead of the Michelin Primacy MXM4 - Tesla Oracle another brilliant cost cutting move for a vehicle which costs close to $60k in that base configuration. Going from XL rated Michelins to LI rated Hankooks doesnt sit...
  48. T

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

oh. that's bad. clearly they should all be marked as "elect" - that's what you paid for. on the bright side... not as bad as the job the Fort Worth "Service Center" did installing new lower rocker panel cover trim pieces... bulging out on the drivers side, bend clips (?) and not a single bolt...
  49. T

bottomed out - plastic cover under rocker panels cracked on both sides - any experiences?

update... not a *single* bolt is installed where the new trim pieces went... just about had it. Hoping the Plano SC does a better job correctly installing the trim pieces.
  50. T

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

nope. but they used a LOT of white grease to install the tires... should wash off fairly easily though
