Any Hardcore Car Enthusiast Out Here? I Have Questions About Going to Model 3

I recently did a 6000+ mile coast to coast road trip in my Model 3. One afternoon, while driving through rural Oklahoma on a 4 lane section of Historic Route 66, two big dually diesel pickup trucks passed me in the left lane. A little further on, one of them pulled in the right lane in front...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, and also the RAV-4 EV they did with the Tesla sourced powertrain. I wonder if they regret selling their interest in Tesla from back then?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The Bloomberg article blurs "hybrid" with "plug-in hybrid". The 200k applies to all plug-ins - BEV and PHEV. In Toyotas case, the Prius Prime, and the previous Plug-in-Prius. Ford has to be pretty close to the 200k threshold as well. Prior to the Mach-E, they sold quite a few C-Max and...

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

While I've mostly made my peace with V11, I do wish a simple trip odometer pane was easily available. We recently found ourselves following some directions (e.g., "go 2.4 miles, make a right turn", etc) where this would have been handy.

EVgo reportedly adding Tesla plugs to their DC fast chargers

In this case, there were no nearby (e.g., <10 miles) Superchargers. This will change Real Soon when the Tukwilla WA Supercharger goes on-line.

EVgo reportedly adding Tesla plugs to their DC fast chargers

Seems GM is now beta testing P&C with EVgo. Bolt EV/EUV (all years), Lyriq, and Hummer supported. Active OnStar account and EVgo account required.

Recapping my 3500 mile road trip frustrations

The waypoints features were added late last year. Elon resisted for a long time, but I'm glad he finally relented. Waypoints are incredibly useful.

Recapping my 3500 mile road trip frustrations

For your multi-stop nav problems: Press the '...' button, and 'Edit stops'. It will show you the list of stops in order of when they are to be reached. If the order is wrong, you can slide the entries up/down to correct them. Then press 'Done' for it to recalculate the route.

    Charge Across America(tv show)

Left unsaid is how long it took Gerdes to do the trip. Knowing him, he probably drove on frontage roads at 25 mph. 😄 I find it relatively easy to drive my RWD LR Model 3 at 5 miles/kWh at reasonable highway speeds. Doing the math, 2835 miles would use 567 kWh. With enough V3 charging...

    Charge Across America(tv show)

A team using a 2021 Model S beat Kyles Taycan record by ~2 hours. It is now 42 hours and change. As more V3 Superchargers are deployed along the cross country corridors, the numbers should continue to improve. It'll be fun to see when someone cracks the 40 hour mark...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

GM has had in-house cell production for years with LG as partner. Originally built for the Volt, now the Bolt EV/EUV. Two more plants are also just coming on line for their Ultium cells. Nissan has had in-house production since early Leaf days. IIRC, they tried to sell it off at one point...

Results from the "350 kW" / 500A DCFC session is finally here!

Yep. I've seen the car pre-condition when navigating to EVgo stations known in the Tesla navigation to have the integrated Tesla - CHAdeMO adapters. Bjorn also did a video on this where he was using a (IIRC) 15 kW CCS charger and noted it would have been faster to use AC charging. At the end...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

GM has been building them since late 2017. (They tried Real Hard to get some delivered before the Model 3 hit the streets. Even delivered the first ones at the Chevy dealer in Fremont - just across the freeway from the Tesla Mother Ship.) They build them on the same assembly line as the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I view it as positive for GM. I'm guessing their their battery recall campaign is now under control. And after ramping battery pack capacity to do the recall, they must be in a position to really punch out a bunch of new ones. The revised Bolt EV and new slightly bigger EUV fixed a lot of...

    Car Camping in RV sites?

I've only car camped in my Tesla a few times, but with that one exception, they've all been very helpful. One park owner was actually very enthusiastic about supporting more EV customers! We added him to plugshare. I hope he has picked up some EV business since then. In that one case where I...

    Solar PV News

Yesterday, grid-scale battery storage provided a peak of just over 2 gW to the California grid for the first time. (At least the first time I've seen.) Peak value was 2.026 gW at 19:25. The peak exceeded 1 gW for the first time just a few months ago.

Not at the negotiating table. Fortunately in my career in the computer biz, I never had to do much with MS or their products. (Am typing this via an ubuntu linux system. When forced to use a Windoze system, the first thing I do is download cygwin and friends.)

Supercharger - San Jose, CA - Saratoga Ave (under construction, 12 V3 stalls)

An interesting aspect of this site is that only four stalls have the traditional "back in" style stall positions. The other eight stalls have the charging stands set outwards as shown in the previous posts' photo. Maybe better for eventual CCS support?
  26. W

    CCS Adapter for North America

The Taycan actually has charge ports on both sides - for AC charging. But only one side supports DCFC.

2200 mile round trip drive: M3LR or ICE?

The Cheyenne Supercharger site is a bit away from I-80, an early V2, and only 4 stalls. (And last time I was there, pre-COVID, one of the stalls was broken.) Tesla really needs to do an upgrade in the area. If possible, use Laramie and Sidney instead.

Utilizing old 40A electric stove circuit for Tesla charging..?

It is likely either an older 10-50 or a newer 14-50 receptacle. (Difference is one has a safety ground connection, the other doesn't.) You can buy a 14-50 adapter for the mobile connector (UMC) from the Tesla store. Or a 10-50 UMC adapter from evseadapters. Current is limited to 32 amps - so...

    CCS Adapter - ?

Definitely Chargepoint. Besides EA, they are the only one that offers "coast to coast" DCFC charging. They also manage an immense number of L2 charging stations. Handy to get a "good" parking spot in an otherwise crowded parking garage. 😄 EVgo seems mostly concentrated in urban and suburban...

    Car Camping in RV sites?

Suggest calling beforehand and make a reservation, if possible, to make sure a "50 amp" spot is available. Many also allow reservations via their web site. One place I called didn't allow "tent camping" - which apparently they consider the same as car camping. Excuse they gave was that their...

Supercharger - San Jose, CA - Saratoga Ave (under construction, 12 V3 stalls)

Good! I stopped by there a couple days ago and the construction fencing was still up. There is a three stall EA station on the other side of the parking lot to the right of your photo. Two were in use. Still think they should have put a bigger station at nearby Westgate Mall.

    CCS Adapter for North America

You have the best of all worlds. You can use any of the three - Tesla, CHAdeMO, and CCS. (Of course now some pundit will want to know what it would take to also use GB/T in China...)
  36. W

Yes, in my 2018 the line item is there, but it says not enabled.

    CCS Adapter for North America

There was a period of time in 2021 where some cars came through with nerfed boards. You need to look at the Software tab, and touch "Additional vehicle information" to see if CCS is enabled for your car or not.
  38. W

    CCS Adapter for North America

I would think that when Tesla eventually decides to market the CCS adapter in N America, they could offer an upgrade option to older Model S/X customers. They've already been doing it in Europe. So there is precedence.

    CCS Adapter for North America

It is a bit off-topic, but have you really seen 10-50s at campgrounds? In my experience, they have always had 14-50s at the "50 amp" level. Adapters I've significantly used are 14-50, TT-30, 5-20, and 5-15. Though if need be, I'm prepared for 14-30, L14-30, 10-30, and 6-15. Back on topic: I...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Back in 2009 or 2010, a friend of mine, who is an early Tesla employee, and I stopped at Harris Ranch for lunch on a trip to Los Angeles. While there, we explored and found the Tesla Roadster charging station. The site has changed a lot since then!

US95 Idaho Range Anxiety Model Y

Note that RV park "30 amp" receptacles are TT-30 ("travel trailer" 30 amp, 120 Volt). Tesla doesn't sell TT-30 adapters for the mobile connector, but evseadapters.com does.

    All discussion of Lucid Motors

He may have been wrong about was the paint thickness on the roof being a repaint. My old Chevy Suburban has a factory two tone paint job. And the second color was painted on top of the first color. So it is plausible that Lucid did the same - by painting the roof portion red along with the...

Help me finalize color choice! Blue vs White vs Red

Two more reasons for going red: Franz usually seems to be driving red Teslas. Elon likes Mars. Mars is the red planet. While I do like my red Model 3, I actually wish it was a bit darker red. Like the sig red on some Model S's. Also, literally the day after I bought it, I took it to a...
