This doesn't seem abnormal. it heats to 140f and then tries to hold it there while charging.

If you have a FLIR it will pick up the fact a heater element is on under as it will be brighter red than just where your body has warmed.

understood, but somewhere in this thread i hit my seat with a FLIR and you could see there was no heating element on. In the winter, you can see if for some reason the vent under the seat isn't coming out the back correctly but otherwise it's just your body heat being trapped in a warm seat likely.

usually it's due to sun hitting the seat and being hot when you sit on it and insulate that heat against your body. Precooling the car for even just a few minutes makes huge difference.

As I understand it it depends on how the cell is faulty. A hard short and it basically will disconnect itself from the pack via a fusible link.

of course range loss over time is real but a lot of times it's not actually what the BMS shows. Its just guessing and really just driving it from full to zero is about the only way to get actual numbers.

that graph is just a chart of the BMS guess. Let the bms take readings at different points along the charge and I bet you get some of it back.

Also really depends. I think there are only 4 v3 there so you would be better off having your own V2 pair than being the 3rd or 4th on the V3 charger assuming all cars are pulling real high current. In your instance with only 2 cars, always better. :)

Sounds like your setup is really she is the main account and she's just given your account access to the car. Everything will be billed to the account the car is tied to.

understood. I've been able to use chademo downtown boone and charging at grandfather so it hasn't been too bad but I get it's not ideal.

one small plus is there is a little better coverage for those going to boone from raleigh now with a SC going in winston.

based on the tear down it can discharge at -20c and charge at -10c so wouldn't be too hard to discharge it at say... -20c and warm it up to -10c right? Below -20c is a mystery though as you get into a bit of a catch22. You can't draw power to close HV contactors so there is no way to warm it...

True but at those faster spots, even urban ones, it's not that big a deal. But at the 40kW and under it makes a big difference. Ideally they are smarter about both though.

I do wish it was more intelligent about 3rd party DCFC. In theory it should read how fast the charger is and figure out how much it needs to heat the battery to get the fastest charge, not just blindingly heat the battery up to the limit.

In theory but from what I've read, and i'm just a layman, the benefit of doing so doesn't outweigh the complexity, increased cost, and relatively small amount of energy a capacitor can store.
