What’s an educated guess on when Model Y will receive 400+ mi range capability?

I think this will happen in about 5 years. This is in line with the past rate of progress. It may happen more quickly if competitive pressure starts to increase and battery supplies become less of an issue. I expect a plateau at just over 300 miles of real world highway range in fair...

    Preparing batter for supercharger

I've noticed that sometimes it sounds different from others. Most of the time I don't notice it being all that high of a pitch. Last time the temps were only ~55F and it sounded so shrill that I almost cancelled it to stop the sound.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I think it will come without trim. If you ask about it, it saves money and is "within spec", or is a "characteristic of the car".

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I drove my gas car the other day and had literally forgotten where the pull was to get the gas cap open. The card reader was awkward too. Thankfully, some of the stations here are starting to get tap & pay, which seems to actually work pretty well. Maybe the non-tesla charging stations should...

No MYP to test drive in CO

Oh, that stinks. They really should have told you beforehand, especially if you had to make time for it.

No MYP to test drive in CO

Did you schedule it ahead of time? I thought that was the general procedure for Tesla, as inventory (including demo cars) varies.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

If you have customized your car to mount the screen behind you and also to only take a single screenshot, I can't blame you for not using it. Or was it that Tesla accidentally mounted it on the second row and called it "in spec"? Either way, definitely don't try to look back at it instead of...

Tesla also displays the side cameras, which generally gives a more complete view in one place than looking at the side mirrors and rear view mirror separately. I've noticed some folks get a weird car-sickness effect from it, but if you don't it is a really useful feature.

ID.4 Canadian pricing announced, undercuts MY LR AWD by $20k CAD :(

I think 4.2 is from the regular awd with performance boost.

ID.4 Canadian pricing announced, undercuts MY LR AWD by $20k CAD :(

The range seems to be better than the SR. Maybe about 20% less than the LR?

ID.4 Canadian pricing announced, undercuts MY LR AWD by $20k CAD :(

It definitely is weird. VW claims lower maintenance as a result:

The stopping distance is almost the same, though, right? I'm not sure that this is significant, even though it is intuitively wrong. Although the Tesla has vastly higher performance, which really puts it in a different class altogether.

To be fair, the rest of us are jealous of your plaid+.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Yeah, the initial cars were more like the middle of the pack. The SR+, SR, and even the limited edition MR came later.

The Model 3 LR RWD shipped first. The AWD and P came later.

Model Y standard range actual range

Yeah, change the reference consumption to 275. I think even that is a little high, so it should be easily achievable with the 19" geminis. The defaults also assume 5% degradation. My calculated reference consumption is 266 wh/mi with the LR AWD. If anything, I'd expect the SR to be slightly more...
  17. J

Model Y standard range actual range

I'm getting closer to 265 for the reference consumption in ABRP than the default value. That will make a significant difference. Without knowing the segment it is hard to know though. Is there a mountain involved?

    Supercharger stations full?

I think this explains the weird charge curve that I saw over the weekend. We had a small wait and every stall occupied at the 8 stall Hardeeville location. I wasn't watching to see if it correlated with cars leaving, but we saw several significant drops only to have it climb back. I don't think...

    Rural Ownership

Do you have other Tesla owners in your area that can tell you about their experiences? We have a local owner's group on Facebook that is really helpful, for example. There are lots of experiences shared there especially in regards to things like the best tire shops to go to. It seems like most...

Tesla service, what a joke!! Extremely frustrated.

Maybe a dumb question, but how do you test it?

    Supercharger - Bellevue, WA

That makes sense, just wondered if this might be a really odd exception. The temporary units use the same shells, afaik.
  22. J

    Supercharger - Bellevue, WA

The stalls look like 72kw. It would be interesting for someone to confirm if they are actually 150. Possibly just these smaller shells to save space?
  23. J

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

They kind of did with the Y. Although a lot of those store/demo cars looked more like rejects than a real prioritization. Nevertheless, the stores had demos really early!

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Yes, that is the saying. Also, a big established company like Voltswagen wouldn't have a bunch of cars stuck due to software issues. There's a saying about that too. Definitely no Mexican car plants would have vehicles held up due to unspecified "quality issues". And no other communities ever...

I bet every delivery center is full of cars right now. Not sure why it is always this crazy at EOQ.

    SuperCharger - Tuscaloosa, AL

True, the states dates have often not correlated with reality. The reverse does happen too, though, with nearby stations that aren't listed sometimes getting built earlier. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I really like the mall locations for that reason. Although it can be a disadvantage when traveling at night.

    Inaccurate Range Stressed New Owner

I'd be happy if they just gave us a range at each speed, in 5 MPH increments from 50 - 85. From what I've heard, it would be really easy to do. Their attempt at making it more "real world" is too one size fits all to be useful.
  33. J

    Supercharger - Madison, GA

Ha, totally fair. Its a significant annoyance, though I appreciate the peace of mind of having a few extra backup stations available. I just wish there were a good CCS1 adapter. It'd have to be less clumsy than the big, heavy CHAdeMO adapter.

    Impression of the Porsche Taycan

I'm 50/50 on this right now. Tesla cars seem to show ~5% degradation in the first year and this is not totally insignificant. With the larger buffers, will the Taycan and Mach-E do the same? Or better? Also, the Mach-E in particular has a really weird charge curve. It would go from weird to...
  35. J

    Impression of the Porsche Taycan

Nice to hear a real world report that it really is as underrated as they say. It is too bad that the EPA test isn't more consistent and accurate.
  36. J

    Supercharger - Yulee, FL

I'm baffled as to why this is behind the building. Surely there were spaces in the regular parking lot that could have been used?

Comparison between LR Gemini and LR Induction?

I was thinking the same, and apparently the 18" is a little wider too?
  38. J

    Savannah, GA Service/Sales Center

I think that is almost impossible to predict, tbh. I doubt it'd take 13 weeks, but the rest is up in the air. They batch produce these cars and inventory could appear tomorrow... or it could be in May or something. Personally, I'd wait until sometime in April and then turn it in once you have a...

Comparison between LR Gemini and LR Induction?

I know this has been discussed a bit, but has there been any consistent testing on the difference? There was a youtuber recently making the claim that they had to be very similar (less than 5%) difference, but I'm not sure that I believe that.

Tesla service, what a joke!! Extremely frustrated.

Good find, that doesn't even sound that bad, tbh. What stinks is that it is practically impossible to get someone to answer the phone.

He says it was a repost. I'm sure he just didn't change the date/time references.
  42. J

Tesla service, what a joke!! Extremely frustrated.

Isn't it generally recommended not to go to the Tesla service center for tire work? I get the feeling this gets a really low priority there. Miami? You'd likely have better luck with discount tire.

    Inaccurate Range Stressed New Owner

I'll second what ianmid said here. I'll also add that the milesSOC does take into account degradation which does make it potentially slightly more accurate in some cases. I'm not sure that this is ever significant for planning purposes, though, tbh. I mostly use the energy usage screen en-route...
  44. J

    Inaccurate Range Stressed New Owner

Yes, real world range for these cars is closer to 240-250, and that is with the 19" geminis. I have two pieces of advice here: 1) As others have said, get ABetterRoutePlanner. You can use it to determine exactly how much you need to charge for a round trip, so that you don't end up hoping a...

Is that an actual problem in a thread who's on topic posts have been... no news for a month or two? lol More seriously, I'm not even ordering an S, I'm just super eager to see how good this refresh actually is. I mean, there's a decent chance it is basically the only new Tesla vehicle launching...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Not necessarily. I had a similar issue with the Model X. I could see the speed, but the AP hands warnings were really easy to miss because the top was occluded. I got into AP ban multiple times in a single trip. I never have similar issues with the screen in the Y.
  47. J

    Supercharger - Newnan GA

We may be partially seeing the difference between Model S/X and Model 3/Y here. They each have their own charging curve.
  48. J

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Considering that we've been seeing them loaded on car carriers for a while, I don't think its impossible. Odd that they wouldn't have assigned VINs yet, though, but I guess that might start happening in large batches at any time.

    Service Center - Knoxville, TN

Yeah, it is understandable, its just an interesting contrast from the other automakers that seem to typically have public chargers available. Of course, those other makes have less experience with electric vehicles and often end up blocking them with gas cars.
  50. J

    Service Center - Knoxville, TN

One of the odd things about Tesla, IMO is that they don't seem to often have public chargers at sales & service centers.
