Model Y LR built in Giga Austin!!

But these “dealer ships” could also facilitate the purchase of add-ons, like rustproofing and undercoating.
  2. CyberGus

Model Y LR built in Giga Austin!!

It sounds like we need some sort of "dealer center" is each city to receive the finished cars, and give then a thorough detailing prior to delivery. I'm sure they'll only take a small cut of the profits.

    Spiders in car, Help! :(

Long ago I parked my topless Miata in a rural area, with the front bumper just touching the hedges that lined the parking lot. Upon returning a few hours later, I jumped in and noticed ants crawling all over the windscreen...on the inside. The entire interior was covered with them. After...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

I was suggesting that an assembly marked as "refurbished" could be entirely made of used parts, or have only 1 used part. If they all perform equally and have a warranty, then it's not relevent how much it is refurbished.
  11. CyberGus

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

The pack is more than just the cells. If they re-used really anything, such as the electronics, it would still be a "refurb" even if all the cells are new. I don't think Tesla has ever indicated what "refurb" exactly means. If it has full capacity and is warrantied, then does it matter?

    All discussion of Nikola Motors

I'm quite certain there is adequate direct evidence of Mr. Milton's fraudulent activities.

    All discussion of Nikola Motors

Trevor Milton can burn in hell for all I care, but I agree that evidence of his lifestyle would be prejudicial and not probative. I expect the wealthy to spend their money lavishly, whether they acquired it via fraud or not.

@Jeremy3292 has given both thumbs-up and thumbs-down to @gearchruncher in this thread. It’s like running a humidifier and a dehumidifier at the same time I’m so confused

"I rented an electric car for a 4-day road trip." -Fox Business Article

The author did correctly (if not indirectly) make the rather obvious point that gas stations are ubiquitous, and EV chargers are not. I can hop in my ICE car and drive anywhere, anytime, without a single thought given to planning. I can even wait until the needle is on "E" and the warning...

  20. CyberGus

Biden administration wants to standardize electric vehicle charging, like gas stations

There are legitimate business concerns surrounding the commercialization of public rest stops. But there's an existing carve-out for "vending machines", and I'm pretty sure an "electron dispenser" would plausibly fit that category.

Cybertruck gigapress (9000T Idra Press) being assembled! in Italy.

As noted by Sandy Munro, the MY initially used a two-piece casting for the rear, later upgraded to a single piece. GigaTexas showed off front castings but those are just now getting delivered. Not sure exactly what you mean, though...each cast part is produced inside a sealed cavity with at...

Cybertruck gigapress (9000T Idra Press) being assembled! in Italy.

A casting machine is not the only way to make a large aluminum part, but it’s the best way to make a million copies quickly and cheaply. The prototype probably has a CNC-machined cradle instead of a cast one.

    Cybertruck

Consumer Reports has limited credibility when it comes to Tesla.

Is leaving Tesla plugged in while not charging really beneficial?

Batteries have a limited lifespan, and degrade with all use. However, the amount of degradation increases geometrically with higher SoC.
  30. CyberGus

Cybertruck gigapress (9000T Idra Press) being assembled! in Italy.

Tesla prices their products like everybody else: supply and demand. Even if your vehicle is totaled for a "minor" incident, the remaining unmolested parts end up in the secondary market and help reduce the cost of repairs elsewhere, which is great for everybody (unless you didn't have insurance...

Tesla to have salvage title supercharging reinstatement process by the end of the year, no s or x.

It's a safety/liability issue. I'm guessing that salvage vehicles will need a Tesla-approved inspection/test before SC privileges are restored.

Is leaving Tesla plugged in while not charging really beneficial?

Your cells are ugly and your ions smell bad! You're worthless and weak! (sorry, just degrading my battery)
  42. CyberGus

Is leaving Tesla plugged in while not charging really beneficial?

I'm actually less concerned about the slow reduction in range, and more worried about total pack failure (expensive fix!). However, pack failure seems to be caused by the total failure of one or more cells, and I don't know that there's any correlation between charge behavior and cell death...
