    Scheduled Charging

Not sure why you are talking about the charging rate. Tesla's recommendation is not relevant to the issue at hand. I think you missed a few posts perhaps? You imply the car should be left sitting at high states of charge. I was trying to charge to 100%, immediately prior to departing. Why...

    Scheduled Charging

I can set the times just fine. They just don't make the car start to charge.

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

This is one of the reasons why Teslas will never become the mainstream, in every driveway car in the US. They have far, far too many quirks and issues. Maybe the $25,000 car will get rid of this stuff and just be a car with an electric motor. But, if Musk is still running the show, I expect not.

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

The "wrong" handle? So was it marked with bright yellow and black stripes and a large warning sign to not use it? When people are getting out of a cab, they reach for whatever seems like a handle. This is a case of "seller beware". There's no way they will be able to bill customers for this...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

If you say so. There is a lot said publicly about Teslas bursting into flames. That gets attention, even if it is overblown. Add in the doors trapping people inside, regardless of there being a secret escape release, it will hurt sales, potentially of all BEVs, since they do tend to get...

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

That's silly. You may be thinking the two parties are the only choices. Yeah, in the US they mostly have a lock. But a third party can control who of those two wins, and so can have a lot of power. Was it Ross Perot who cost the Republicans the Presidency once? I think Ralph Nader did the...

    Scheduled Charging

I suppose no one has told you about the additional wear you put on the battery by charging to high states of charge and leaving it sit like that? The battery is the most expensive part of the car, second only to the software. I like to baby it, even if you don't care about yours.
  8. gnuarm

    Scheduled Charging

It was a fail. It did not start charging when it needed to. I had to start it manually, and now I won't have quite the charge I wanted.

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

That's not bribery and is publically known. You don't have to vote for a politician that accepts money from any given group, and many do exactly that. Others vote for politicians because they take money from their pet groups.

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Yeah, I think "low cost" is an understatement. Every car sold in the US that I know of growing up, was easy enough to open from the inside, even if the battery fell out of the car! They used to sell entire cars for under $2,000. Not just a door.

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

I knew how to open the damn door! I love how you ignore the point! Actually, I was in a rush to get out of the car. The vehicle was upside down, and I had no idea if it might catch on fire. You are never going to have a vehicle that can store that much energy and not have a risk of...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

How is any of that relevant??? What you are really saying, is that Tesla had every reason to know this would be a safety problem, and they chose to ignore that. Didn't your mom ever say to you, "If everyone else jumps off the roof, are you going to do it too?"
  13. gnuarm

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Trouble is, unlocking a door, is not so dangerous. The problem with the Tesla is opening a door that is not even locked. I'm pretty sure my front doors open by the handle without power. But the rear, gull-wing doors require removing the speaker covers, finding the tiny bobber on the end of a...

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

Do you have any evidence of that? Anything at all? According to practically everyone I've talked to, everyone in Puerto Rico receives bribes for everything. Every problem is because of bribes. But they never have any basis for stating that. No evidence at all. It's not like no one is ever...

    Scheduled Charging

As a test, I left the precondition time to 6:30 AM, but turned off Precondition. I set the Off-Peak Charge time to 5:30 AM and enabled that. When I checked the charging state, it said it turned off the charging, and "Car will charge during off-peak hours to depart by 6:30 AM". WTF? I'm...
  17. gnuarm

    Scheduled Charging

So I want to leave at 6:30 am tomorrow. I don't have any use for preconditioning. That will simply use extra energy and lengthen the charging time. I also have no utility rates that I care about. So I have to set one or the other, precondition or Off-Peak Charge time, right? Can I just...

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

I don't follow. Every place I know of in the US has for profit companies proving electricity. They don't seem to be corrupt to me. They are profit oriented, and I think that's going to cost us with the changes that are not required for BEV charging. Yeah, that's what I meant to say. I...

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

I wasn't aware that the coal power plant is privately owned. I drove into that once. Seems they have a back door that is not shut. I was able to drive down to where the conveyor belts carry the coal some 40 feet in the air from the dock where it is unloaded, to the plant where it is stored...

Puerto Rico wants to tax people for Solar generation

I don't know who wrote this article, but it sounds like he doesn't live in Puerto Rico or even spend much time here. I can count on one hand the number of solar installations I've seen, and two of those were at power generation farms. The per capita income in Puerto Rico is around $13,000...

I'll remember that one for about 5 minutes. I think we use far too many abbreviations.

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

That's not really practical. Every leg impacts any that follow. I literally only had so many hours to complete everything and needed to optimize the charging. Eventually it worked, but I was severely handicapped by the way the page would restart the whole map and routing calculations, every...

    Scheduled Charging

So how do you set the car to charge so it is ready to drive (reached the set charging level) at a certain time??? Ok, I see what I was missing now. "Off-peak charging (misleading name) tells the car what time you want it to finish charging." So off-peak charging time has nothing to do with...
  25. gnuarm

    Scheduled Charging

I gave it another try today. I set the controls for preconditioning, so scheduled departure time. The car started charging and did not stop. The screen said it would charge for 8 hours, but the departure time was some 20 hours away. The charging did not stop. I stopped the charging...

Reaching the Magic $25,000 Price Point, Who First?

God! It's not even a constant 50 kW. 100 miles in 30 minutes is 50 kW if you assume 4 mi/kWh. So the additional half hour is only 30 kW. Gad! I feel restricted by the Tesla 75 kW urban chargers. I hope they find a better source for their batteries in the future! I agree that lots of...

Mt Airy, MD - Phantom Charger

Yes, I see I posted to that thread when I first found mention of a Tesla Supercharger in ABRP. I've tried to alert ABRP about the error, but so far no word. It is good to have eyes on the ground to make absolutely sure. Thanks It would be nice to have a charge at Mt Airy or somewhere along...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

Jeez! ABRP is really messed up today. I've got a trip with five waypoints, plus the starting point. ABRP keeps deleting one! Plus it does this thing where, every time I switch to another window and return to see if the routing has completed, the routing has completed, but starts again...

    PPF installer near Frederick, MD

So, the hurry is to get it on before the car gets nicks? Remember before the 3 was out, people would post pictures of the 3 with a decal like the "grill" opening on the S and X? Does anyone do that? I think it would look good. BTW, did you pick an installer? I guess you need to wait for...

Mt Airy, MD - Phantom Charger

ABRP shows a Supercharger at Mt Airy, MD in the municipal parking lot. It shows a third party logo, rather than the Tesla logo. But ABRP shows it as a 150 kW "SuC" which I assume means SuperCharger. I think this is very mixed up and wrong, but who knows? Anyone use this lot who can...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

ABRP is really being a PITA this morning. Trying to plan a trip Monday and Tuesday and the tool is being very uncooperative. I have five waypoints and added charging at one. I tried planning a schedule by entering departure times at the various waypoints. It sort of works, but I don't like...

Reaching the Magic $25,000 Price Point, Who First?

I saw that, but I wonder if they are pushing down the price to try to recover market share from their battery fiasco? I don't expect they will raise the price at any point, but they probably will keep this price longer than others do. Actually, I keep hearing that material costs are expected...

A Better Route Planner Doesn't Load in Tesla Browser

Ayeah... sure could use some fart noises right about now. Heck with those windshield wipers. I don't need to see the road. I just need to hear someone cutting the cheese!
  36. gnuarm

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

It doesn't. The car can only plan a trip starting from the car's current location. It also requires that you be in the car. If I am in Puerto Rico and the car is in Baltimore wanting to plan my return with any charging that is needed as well as a possible meal stop, that's a problem. I also...

A Better Route Planner Doesn't Load in Tesla Browser

Actually, I got ABRP to run in the Tesla browser... for a bit. It's hard for me to understand a company that is supposedly developing cutting edge software to pilot the car, with all our lives depending on it... and they can't even get the auto headlights, auto wipers or browser to work! Really?

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

As long as I'm on a roll... I tried evtripplanner.com and found it pretty unusable. I don't have the vision of a 20 year old and some of the fonts they use are entirely too small. The browser zoom works on some of the text, but not all. But it makes the Tesla icons on the map really big...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

Of course I have a user account on ABRP. That's the only way you can get it to work with your car. I haven't paid for the Premium account, because it doesn't offer much that I could make use of. I suppose the real time traffic could be useful. Don't think for a minute this is some guys...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

Huh! I was actually able to use ABRP in the Tesla while waiting to charge! I didn't have time to explore options. I've found the Tesla browser to work better after a reboot of the UI. In this case I had to reboot while driving which meant I was without instruments for a bit. I also lost the...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

It's not a complex problem. The real problem is no information from ABRP on how to use the tool or exactly what it is doing. Why would it have me charge after 40 miles of a 125 mile drive when there are two or three other chargers along the route? I have tried contacting ABRP support about...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

The first go gave me choices in routes. Like Google maps, but with no indication how, I clicked on the alternate route, and it was good, other than wanting me to charge somewhere I didn't want to charge (very early in the trip, so the longest possible charge time). When I excluded that...

    Scheduled Charging

Sure, one day when I have the time, I'll do that, but won't it look just like everyone else's? Not sure why you say this, Preconditioning is a thing where they heat the battery to get it to optimum operating temperature, but also warm the cabin. No? Can't, I'm driving. Besides, beer is...
  45. gnuarm

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

Yeah, I've done that in the past. It is the weird "now you have it, now you don't" behavior of offering alternates, then not, that is strange, also, adding the very early charger stop. Maybe it's because this charger is right by the road, while the charger I'd like to use is a mile or so off...

    ABRP Crapping Out on Trip

I'm having trouble with ABRP acting too much like the Tesla trip planner. I like to plan my drives on the PC with ABRP, but sometimes the tool is a whiny little girl... or maybe I am. Not sure. Apologies to any whiny little girls reading this. So I'm trying to get a route with several stops...

  49. gnuarm

    Scheduled Charging

This is what I'm talking about. What does the Charge start time have to do with departure time? The car needs to start charging at a time it calculates for the combination of current state of charge, state of charge limit setting and departure time. If the Charge start time is used for the...
