    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

FWIW: I had to put down a (refundable) $US 1,000 for my Model 3 reservation back in 2016. Perhaps a refundable $US 100 reservation could provide LM with a real idea of demand.

    Rockers look sandblasted

Yes, it's called the Midwest edition for the smaller units. The rear units are the Midwest units and they are there 'forever'. The front ones, those I swap out for seasonal purposes. I don’t feel that the North ones stick out too much and, honestly, I may just keep those on year round. When...

    Rockers look sandblasted

Yes, those are the ones I have. They don't stand out like a sore thumb from any distance: I have the small ones on the rear wheel wells: In the winter, when I swap the summer tires for the winter tires, I use the large (Northern (?)) size: In the summer, I use the smaller...

    Rockers look sandblasted

Sounds like you should be okay. I can't remember the brand name of the mud flaps I use, but they were from Quebec and are not 3D. I thought they would stick out like a sore thumb, but they blend in with the black of the wheel opening and your eye isn't drawn to them.

    Rockers look sandblasted

May 2018 build. Ceramic and PPF added to the whole front end (bumper, hood, front quarters, exterior mirrors), the A pillars, top of the rear bumper, behind the rear licence plate and all four door jambs when the car was brand new. I put mud flaps on all four corners, plus installed PPF on the...

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

Agree with your macro look at Ontario’s situation, but I hope that cooler heads will prevail and we will simply import what we need from an interconnected jurisdiction. Or we can still keep running that biofuel generator near Nipigon and live with 1.004 kg of CO2 emitted for every kWh produced...

    Green New Deal

Here is the actual program termination paragraph from the article for context: However, it was abruptly stopped in 1979, a casualty of the political and economic turmoil of the mid-to late-1970s. A series of oil price shocks had led to rampant inflation and increasing levels of unemployment...

MASTER THREAD: Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

Interesting, I wonder if the mechanical dynamics of that button have somehow changed since my early build from May 2018. I've never had an unintended wash, ever. My button has a very firm mid point stop, infact to get a wash I have to really force it beyond the mid point stop to get a wash.

MASTER THREAD: Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

If you are talking Model 3/Y, one is able to press the button on the end of the turn signal stalk for a single swipe "now".

    Battery Drain Overnight.

A comment from the peanut gallery: 2.5 years ago, I had to have the front port-side headlamp replaced, as I was suffering what was then a typical early build headlamp issue. When the mobile repair chap showed up, I was expecting the typical remove bumper, disconnect headlamp, R&R the headlamp...

    Green New Deal

I just read an article in the "Insight" section of today's Toronto Star, that dealt with food banks being a growth industry that doesn't actually solve the root problems of food insecurity. One statistic mentioned that I did find illuminating was the use of food banks in Canada declined 25% in...

    Green New Deal

Is there any hard data that says a UBI will not actually make peoples lives better? There is the old UBI experiment in Manitoba in the 1970s: Mincome - Wikipedia In Ontario, a three year UBI experiment was shut down, for political reasons, after year one: Ontario Basic Income Pilot Project -...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Agreed. Unless one hears that HVAC temperature blend door "noise" at the 2 minute mark, it's not a real full shut down. Most folks will use the full shut down and then open a door to exit the vehicle, thereby negating the procedure because some electrical device is being "woken up" during the...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

I should have used some examples to illustrate what will "wake the car back up" (during or) after a full power down using that button in the safety and security menu. Things like (but not limited to): shifting in your seat; opening the storage in the center console (turns on the little LED...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

FWIW: there is also another "reset" that I do every time there is a software update (been doing this since the fall of 2018). In the safety and security section on the UI, there is the full power down button. One caveat once that button is used...one cannot/cannot force the car to use ANY...

Agreed. I hope that the current president understands that what is required is transformative change on the order of what FDR implemented.

    Battery Drain Overnight.

In my antique May 2018 build TM3 LR RWD, that whir sound comes from the "superbottle" where every coolant circuit in the car merges...and one of the little pumps does its thing, which I suspect has something to do with the software making sure the battery pack temperature swings are kept as...

Same here, since 02 June 2018...avoids much "minutia grief". Again, same here. Way back in version 8 (prior to Q4, 2018), the estimated %SOC icon at nav system destination was always displayed right next to the active ETA. When V9 came along, that icon became hidden in the display of all the...

Wall of 10 Tesla Powerwall 2 units

@Jason Bloomberg: may I ask a few novice questions (awesome setup by the way)? 1. Can you provide the dimensions as depicted: 2. Can these batteries actually be installed out doors in a climate where winter temps descend below -25C? 3. If these batteries are installed outdoors, is there...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

I've noticed since the Christmas update (.26 I think), "phantom drain" has increased. I think it is now at/around Tesla specs of 1% a day, but definitely much more than before. My car is parked in an 8C environment, unlocked and left undisturbed. I'm near the end of a 10 day test (ends at...

Maybe that filter just needs a 1/64th (five degrees of arc) tightening up?
  34. navguy12

Anyone else dislike the new UI?

I could live with the whole 1980s TRON look of the car graphic while in park, but once I'm in gear and the car graphic shrinks and aligns with the center-line of the vehicle, that wide white space should automatically narrow.

Who has lost regen with winter tires?

Truthfully, I find the winter tire regen reduction can vary between software versions. I have my winters on (starting their third winter season of use) as of two weeks ago and the regen is reduced, but not by the really pronounced changes I felt back in 2018.
