March was a great production month

June passed. Another very good month but not quite the same as May was. My first June back in 2012 is still in 1st place for the months of June but this past June now is in 2nd place. The last 2 months went over 700kWh on an effective 3.8 system. Unfortunately, the fog is rolling in and cutting...

Do Powerwalls prevent appliances plugged into surge suppressors from going off?

If you want those important items to stay on like modem, router, tv, and dvr, you need a good UPS that I decided to add so the iimportant stuff is on when I need them. ;):D

Disappointing Power Generation, and I need help with analysis of pypowerwall output please!

I have Micros so I can monitor inverter/panel temps. Right now, Ambient is about 18C and inverter/panel is at 41C. I have seen 50C on warmer days but need to check again when ambient 30C

Does Virtual Power Plant option require Gateway 2 ?

When I read the whole invite I did see $2/kWh or fraction there of. I wonder if they will send a 1099 although that is not required if under $600? Looks interesting even with a check at years end. ps. just signed up to try and see what gives

Does Virtual Power Plant option require Gateway 2 ?

Mine was on an iPhone Tesla app.

Does Virtual Power Plant option require Gateway 2 ?

I just checked my app. The invitation was there above the Energy bar.

Am I getting the power I should?

Nice curve. Looks like the inverters are clipping there for a number of hours, that relatively flat top portion. Also, with your DC:AC ratio, you should be getting that peak output for much more days than otherwise during the year.
  8. charlesj

Am I getting the power I should?

What was your design criteria? Was it limited by anything? With that DC ratio, you should be producing peak power over a longer time period in the middle of day. Can you post a snapshot of a production graph for a good day to get an idea how much clipping you are having?
  9. charlesj

Am I getting the power I should?

To @ptdusn and @RussellW : -- Heat is the enemy of solar generation. Enphase panels and displays if you have them is capable of showing panel/inverter temperatures. I have Enphase. The other day outside air temp was about 20C(68F) but pane/inverter temp was close to 50C. So, outside air temp is...

    New Powerwall charging at minimum

One thing to remember is that your generator's frequency may be very high and might cut off the inverter. Need an instrument such as Kill-A-Watt to see the frequency. Be sure to let us know what the issue was so we can also learn.

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

Here is my comparison for today at end of day a few minutes ago. Both apps report to 1 decimal place. Same amount but it cold have less than 100W difference that would be hidden in rounding to 1 decimal place

Tesla energy portion gone from Tesla app

Yes, that would make sense that implies to me that the different parts, car and energy may be separate connected by a thread and if one part has an issue, like an email address, something in that part may have issues. That makes sense as the energy division came after the car division, an add on?

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

Thanks. If you only have 1 circuit breaker and an CT in subpanel, that will be it for Enphase CTs. Not sure how Gateway's CTs are installed in it or what it measures as Gateway already receives solar generation data from that antenna in your subpanel just like mine up on the 2nd story. The...

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

Where is the breaker for the panels? Is there a Tesla CT coil around the wires at the breaker? How far away from the roof penetration to breaker CT? The wire IR loss can be approximated.
  15. charlesj

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

My Tesla CT is in my 2nd floor subpanel wrapped around the solar cables at the breaker. the CT box is in that subpanel. The CT's antenna is using a panel knock out into the wall cavity. This subpanel is a good distance from the Gateway and the rest in the garage. The wire is large enough to be...

Tesla energy portion gone from Tesla app

That. But while that is all that was mentioned wonder if the Impact section is affected as well of the settings, go of grid, support. No idea about coding but it is interesting it only would affect one part, not all the others or other parts of others, like the car section. Just curious.
  17. charlesj

Tesla energy portion gone from Tesla app

But, why would that affect only one part and not all?
  18. charlesj

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

For those who do not have Enphase, the inverters on each panel sends the performance signals to Envoy that sends the data to Enphase company by by Internet. There is not a CT that would be similar to the one Tesla attaches to the Ac wires at the solar breaker. This is where the issue is between...

    Should I wait?

Well, you don't have to give them actual dates. I am still planning on one since 2012 when design was for 16 panels but had room for 17. I was able to convince them for 17 panels to get the permit. PG&E didn't flinch. Actually, I was going to place the rails for 17 and add one after installation...

    How to clean solar panels?

Yep 15 minutes integration calculation with Enphase.
  21. charlesj

    How to clean solar panels?

Be careful with your calculations as you can see that day how close the energy output is between panels but were they the same the day before on a similarly sunny day? Or the day after you clean the panel? One-time snippet may not tell you much. Was it the same outside or panel temperatures...

    How to clean solar panels?

If you did this in the daytime, sun shining, panel cooling off will give you that extra energy. ;)
  23. charlesj

    Should I wait?

Tell them you are getting another electric car soon after installation. :D
  24. charlesj

    Should I wait?

Good thing you asked as there are at least 6 other states with Sacramento city name. ;) :D
  25. charlesj

Kansas - Proposal to Double Tax EVs

Then the question is how many electric vehicles in the state. We do smog checks every two years. I lived in NJ once many years ago. Had vehicle inspection. It could be self-reported annually and then officially checked every few years and any mischief caught up with penalty? ;) :D
  26. charlesj

Kansas - Proposal to Double Tax EVs

I am surprised that they don't require odometer check to see miles drive each year and pay a fair fee on that instead of all this nonsense. There needs to be a class action lawsuit about being taxed twice. And, come to think of it, while they are at it, why not check those hybrid cars that get...

March was a great production month

I guess too late to edit. It is more than the best May; it is the best month in 122 months online.
  29. charlesj

March was a great production month

Well, May is finished generating. Thanks, global warming for a record May production. :) This is my 11th May and just became number one in 11 Mays at 734 kWh. Before, the first May was best at 717 kWh followed by year 2 at 711 kWh.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Select one then repeat tapping that circle. Seems to add more but not all, not the full days worth to the time you check at least not for me, not yet. More research and experimenting for me.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I guess I didn't think about that circle or really notice it. Super.

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

How do you get all three, home solar pw graph showing all at once?
  33. charlesj

Possibly adding a 3rd Powerwall. Good idea?

I have these advanced options showing. Didn't try any of them.
  34. charlesj

Anyone have solar other than Tesla solar?

OP, I purchased my system back in 2012, installed it myself including the connection to a 20A 240V breaker in subpanel that was directly under the panels on the roof. I used Enphase inverters so it is AC down to the subpanel. Only issue one may have is getting ground and power wire to the...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

When did TURN favor solar and battery? They are in favor of NEM3 when I called them so I cx'd my membership. They think they are defending the poor non solar households. Give them a call; perhaps they changed their errors of their way?
  37. charlesj

Do you have enough solar to go off grid in winter?

Seeing your picture, I would think the helicopter transported batteries would have to shed the load over your property, not wait for that truck. ;) :D

Total Pack Power vs. Ownership Lifetime

Thanks. Boy, at first I couldn't figure out what was going on after the IP got me to sign in, customer, PW, etc and the picture with the house, battery, solar, grid display. None of the info there got me anything beyond routine. I gave up at first. Then, just now I decided to add the...

What production should I expect with 12.24Kw, 29 Panels 12.24Kw Solar?

Are you sure they are 340Watt panels? 29x 340=9860. Perhaps 420W? While heat may be an issue, yes, I think it should be higher with a total 11.4kW inverter pack.

Total Pack Power vs. Ownership Lifetime

Boy, what a screwup and delayed reaction on their part.
  43. charlesj

March was a great production month

While this is April, no need to start a new thread. ;) Almost at end of daylight and production looks very good indeed. Have 11 Aprils and right now the production is 676 kWh with no real chance for mush more as fog is coming in. AND, this April is the 2nd best of 11 Aprils. :D 2013 was 689...

My system is clipping on 12.6kw system with 7.6 inverter

Yep, that is a 1.22 DC to AC ratio. Just think what it would look like or how much more production with more panels, same inverter.
  46. charlesj

My system is clipping on 12.6kw system with 7.6 inverter

What is the orientation of the rears and the front.
  47. charlesj

My system is clipping on 12.6kw system with 7.6 inverter

If that Tesla sheet is accurate and as you posted, that does in fact multiply out to 12. 24 kW, not quite 12.6 what he posted. ;)
  48. charlesj

    22.1.2 Update

Of course they don't as then they have to fix it. ;)
  49. charlesj

My system is clipping on 12.6kw system with 7.6 inverter

You may generate more as it will reach peak much earlier and lasts longer each day. Mine is about half of yours and generate 6.+ mWh year in, year out so far over ten years and don't have such a DC to AC ratio.
