Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

IO won't work for you then. If you have batteries you need some mechanism to be able to stop them from discharging outside of the fixed window.
  2. B

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Powerwalls are an interesting one for IO. Because I can locally control my battery with MQTT and Home Assistant, I I have a script to tell my battery not to discharge in the extra HH slots allocated outside the 23:30-05:30 window. Powerwalls would be more challenging as Tesla isn't so keen on...

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

Love it when some randomer from *squints at page* Louisville, Kentucky disagrees with my assessment of what constitutes EU regs and what doesn't.

Me too. I only need a small top up, but all three of my slots are post 5:30am. Grid balancing in action!

It will poll the battery and reschedule a slot for the following day to maintain the target charge. The full window is 17:00-11:00, but some Android users on here have reported getting off-peak schedules sent to them all day. I can't verify that as I'm on iOS.

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I calculated that if you have a house base load of 400W, then having 2 extra hours of off-peak (assuming 7.5p vs 37.5p) would save you around 24p a day (your standing charge) or around £90/y. That's if you shifted absolutely no other use into those two hours.

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Yes. If smart-charging is enabled in the app, yes. Works with both sequences, with the proviso that if you plug in with smart-charging off in the app the car is just going to go ahead and charge because your charger is set to be be a dumb switch. What happens when you renable smart-charging is...

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

This question comes up quite a bit. I'll answer it in 3 parts: 1. First and key point to make is the workaround is really very little effort. Why deny yourself the regular extra off-peak slots just for the sake of a few button clicks. (And if the car is plugged in, the bug doesn't occur) 2...

No, you cannot do that. There is an element of geofencing involved in making the tariff work.
  16. B

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

The There is nothing in the T&Cs that expressly forbids charging a second EV. They only mention that you cannot have two EVs being controlled by IO, which is the key word.

Mods, I know there are a couple of existing IO threads - please feel free to merge this post into the main thread if you think another is excessive.

Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Why write this post? A lot of people are starting to get interested in IO. I don't think Octopus do a very good job of spelling out the benefits in their website. They have some FAQs, but the same questions keep coming up over and over on the forums. What is it? In a nutshell, IO is a split...

High power usage when idle / parked

Why are we still giving advice? It was IO + an unplugged car. That's it.
  20. B

High power usage when idle / parked

Yes, sleeping with smart charging enabled while plugged in has been fully fixed. Confirmed with Teslamate by several users on the Octopus forums, including me.
  21. B

High power usage when idle / parked

There's no problem with toggling it off and switching it back on just before creating your schedule.
  22. B

High power usage when idle / parked

    That's been fixed.
  23. B

High power usage when idle / parked

This is a well documented "bug" in IO which I and others plastered all over the IO threads. We're trying to get the devs to fix it. As you've found, the workaround is to either switch off smart charging in the app when you're not scheduling anything, or leave the car plugged in. Either will...

So I tried camping in the car for one night......

I camped in the car solo for 2 nights this weekend. I'm 182cm and found there to be enough room, sleeping diagonally. I used a carry mat and sleeping bag. I wasn't on a communal campsite so can't speak to noises outside the car, but in the car I found the HVAC to be very well behaved on fan...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

That's chunky price from EOn. I have almost the exact same sized array and battery from them (but only a single array) and I paid £9k in March '21.
  26. B

    WiFi not turning in automatically

I've noticed 2022.12.3.2 has been terrible for dropping the wifi stack and being unable to reconnect, usually after the car sleeps. Two-button reboot is the only thing that brings it back for me.

    Price hike

Holy hell, just specced the same car and with the abolition of the £3k grant, it's now £10,800 more expensive than the one I bought March '21.

Same here. Mine just works fine all the time at 32A. @Cnixon have you current limited in the car or Tesla app at some point. IO doesn't have any control over the current. It's just a switch in the cloud, effectively.

Regarding pigeon proofing, can anyone recommend either a midlands-based company or one of the nationals to do this?

    Octopus Intelligent

Actually here's one I retained a screenshot of. Super unusual in that the extra hours were early evening rather than morning, but a 10 hour whopper.
  32. B

    Octopus Intelligent

FWIW, I think my record for a day is 9.5 hours at offpeak rates.
  33. B

    Octopus Intelligent

It remains to be seen what they do long term, but they offer that charger option, and have to date been very generous with their allocation of additional charging slots. No, that's not correct.
  34. B

    Octopus Intelligent

As @WllXM said, you'll need your smart meter. However when you register your vehicle on the IO app, I believe "Generic 2.3kW Charger" is still an option to register with. This will ensure IO knows what you can get into the car when it's doing it's calculations for charge slots. If you move to...

Tesla U.K. have closed all their front of house service teams and it’s absolutely baffling

You can tell in a second if it's the window seals. Just drop the window a centimetre and if it is the noise will stop. Happens on my passenger front window. I need to redo the Gummi P.

    U.K. Supercharger Fees

No, they're not printed anywhere. If you go into the nav, and click on a SuC it will list the current /kWh pricing.

Tesla need to show more third party chargers

I pinged Gridserve the other day and asked them if they were talking to Tesla about integrating in to the Nav. I only got their social media PR blah, "great idea we'll pass it on" etc.
