Bloomberg posted an article about Elon's communication methods begin similar to Trump. Its paywalled, but the teaser does not mention that most times what Elon tweets is factually correct.

Agree. The challenge is for the mad scientists CEO to know when to let the division CEO run the business, and when to order him to do something differet. IMHO Elon is pretty good at doing this, with just occasional head scratching action.

Uber, Lyft Drivers Switch to Teslas as High Gas Prices Squeeze Profit (ripped from headlines)

The beginning of the mass migration. Uber, Lyft Drivers Switch to Teslas as High Gas Prices Squeeze Profit (Bloomberg version) This raised my eyebrows. More exposure, more customers, faster migration to BEV.

You did great. Too many will take cyanide if doc prescribes. Another excellent is Jublia for toenail fungus. They want like $500 for a tube good for a week, but give them your personal info and its $20 per week/tube. Wiki on it here. There is a cheaper alternate, almost as good. But with...

All that is good, but does not mention youth mortality (probably does in book) Over 100 years ago YM was close to 50% , so humans needed at least 4 offspring for population to sustain itself. Today it needs to be slightly over 2, like 2.1. I agree with overall the indicator, but will take...

In defense of that (while on fence myself), I did read that founding CEO's are generally great at starting companies, not so great at running them.

Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

So far I talked with only 1 person who really knew what he was selling, and get answers I want. Research is not wasted, it is making up for sales people shortcomings that is wasted.

Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

Yes, that is true. What I found is they provide a lot of detail on what you are getting, and an easy way to get a lot of quotes. You do not have to pick from them, look at the installers offers, learn about details. also free book "Solar Power Demystified".

  16. MontyFloyd

Do you want Tesla to offer Solar Roof option on their cars?

A remainder, if not aware. Not moving or anything, a Tesla consumes a bunch of watts. If sentry is on, or it gets too cold (can have sun on freezing days) the consumption is more. A PV roof will compensate, perhaps even recoup, all the idle losses.

    110, 115, 120, 125, 220, 240, what the heck is with all these numbers?

Ah, the lesser used special purpose plugs.

Well, https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/forums/energy-environment-and-policy.36/ is too diluted with all manner of Energy, Environment, and Policy topics, wanted to focus on PV only.

    110, 115, 120, 125, 220, 240, what the heck is with all these numbers?

US houses are 240V, so we good (YES on C2H / bi-directional)
  20. MontyFloyd

    110, 115, 120, 125, 220, 240, what the heck is with all these numbers?

Japan is 1 voltage (100V), and nearly same plugs as US (the 2 prong lacks the taller polarized plug, but if plug does not have it, works just fine).

Energy Storage discussion (critical for Renewable to work).

BRILLIANT! What I have been saying is becoming reality! The simple idea a small shaft in tall buildings can be used as gravity energy storage. It does start with simple shafts, but does offer a more complicated system of individual blocks, but looks to be far better controlled than the nutty...

European truck makers are getting infrastructure ready for long-distance electric trucking.

In Europe, that IS long distance. It is often faster to walk across a city in Europe than use a car (while in Houston it is insane to even walk 1 block. :p)

    F-150 Ford Lightning

So, the MSRP should be $34,772?? It is still theft, and a fool would pay anyone that much mark up. Then again, there are those with more $$$ than brain cells.

    Recent MYP Delivery Estimates

A buddy of mine ordered his MY in September / October of 2021. A few weeks ago he was given a June 14~July 19 delivery window (it was later pushed back to July 14~19, then up to June 6~12). And yesterday, June 14, he received it! Amazingly the months old estimate was most accurate. production...

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

At least 2 months of good production (likely more), WTH are all those MY AWD SR (4680) going?? (Besides the few known to go to employees and company use). BTW, is factory producing on Sat/Sun?
  31. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

Yes, that is what I am saying. There maybe be inefficiency and some added weight (could be small), the upside is build flexibility. Sandy talked about this in one of his videos and speculation on a Tesla web site (about 2~3 months ago). I would also guess this is a short term strategy as...
  32. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

This is what I am thinking, a new battery box for Austin that does not use the battery to take part of the load. Modularity is a tradeoff of build efficiency vs build flexibility. From what I have seen and heard the battery box is self contained unit, and if not then very close to it. Fremont...
  33. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

Exactly, but that is irrelevant to the car build itself.
  34. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

No, do not think of "structural" or "non-structural" inside, think only of the box between the front and rear castings. It can be a fish tank for all I care, as long as it fulfils the structure requirements, then it does its job. Tesla cars are very modular, just plug in the desired module...
  35. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

Agree. IMHO one reason for current slow production is insufficient 4680 production. As Mrbrock and others say, the production needs to significantly increase, by like a factor of 10
  36. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

battery component is completely irreverent. The structure between front and rear castings is the issue, not what's inside them. All the "structural battery" does is pass SOME of the structural load to the batteries. Tesla will create 2 versions of the battery box, both will fit in same space...

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Besides the purpose of those connectors, also miss the evolution (FYI: RJ11 and RJ45 are still in use for the same purpose, 60 years later, no change needed) When a protocol is improved, the hardware is also improved. Except that really did not happen with EV plugs. They took the J1772...
  38. MontyFloyd

Model Y - Gigafactory Texas Production

Sandy says Austin is a modular line, uses robot sleds, so is possible to even build a 2170 and 4680 at same time, alternating the battery. A PURE guess here is there is much work still going, so production is limited. Even the building is not 100% finished (at least still mounting PV's)
  39. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Only because Nissan and Mitsubishi failed to get sales for tis BEV, and Honda and especially Toyota failed to promote PHEV. Meanwhile the completely proprietary Tesla system is by far the most common. If Tesla maintains at least 50% of BEV market in US, then Tesla might just become a standard.
  40. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

It is to replace all, with adapters for legacy. Did not stop USB from its everything USB-C connector.
  41. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Improvement, but maybe caught in politics?
  42. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Simple: 1 design of SC power supply and connector world wide, and be about same size as the Tesla (or possibly proposed Chao-Ji) connector. There is no technical issue preventing this. This will save tens of billions.
  43. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Exactly. The changes to charging equipment is rapidly evolving, the old hardware is already too limiting.
  44. MontyFloyd

Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

The "Target" stated in contract is: "...make sufficient voluntary prepayment(s) to reduce your total loan..." The loan "will re-amortize at the end of the 18th month", so there is an increase, and I am not sure if the % APR stays the same.
  45. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

And yet we have a dozen versions of USB plugs and jacks. IOW, it will change, because inefficient and expensive to what it can be.
  46. MontyFloyd

    International Electric-Car Charging-Plug Standards

Anyone working on a unified connector?
  47. MontyFloyd

Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

The "subsidized $4k of the 6800", that was for the roof replacment? Was looking over the loan, and it turns out it is $90/mo for 18mo, then jumps to $122 for the remaining 18.5 years. Very disappointing. Also perturbed by lack of other details. I had survey done, will see what they say.

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

for everyone else who TL/DR Russian ICBM nukes will: A. most likely not get anywhere close to intended target, eg land on Russia instead. B. not explode, just splatter with radioactive junk C. contaminate Russia and cause massive wave of deadly cancer across Russia.
  49. MontyFloyd

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

More than only poor quality, would you drive a 50 year old car? The T-72 tanks which is by far the most common tank in the war was put in production in 1968. 1968! Even the latest updates are still decades old. They are not just poor quality, they are obsolete. PS, the T-90 is a version of...
