    2021 M3P roof glass broke

Here is a close up of what I believe to be the origination point of my crack. The part you can feel is about 0.75 inch long (starting from 2.25 and ending around 3.0 on that ruler). There are 3 main points before the crack smooths out around the 2.25, 2.5, and 2.75 inch marks. If this is a rock...

    2021 M3P roof glass broke

I had my Tesla appt today and same thing. They said mine was from a rock and not a stress fracture, so I guess I'm going to have to file a comprehensive claim with my insurance company over it. They looked at my roof for all of 1 sec. They said that stress fractures are smooth and can't be felt...

    2021 M3P roof glass broke

Guess I'll find out when I take it in in April. I think the crack started where the inner frame meets the window then spread from there. Possible it's an impact point, but it's a really weird point... it's almost flat right there. Odds of something hitting right there seem low. One of my...

    2021 M3P roof glass broke

Pictures attached. It's smooth on the inside, can feel it on the outside. Looks like it started where the inside frame meets the glass then spread down and up/over.

    2021 M3P roof glass broke

Heard a loud pop from my garage last week and didn't think much of it. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I noticed that I have a huge crack going through my sunroof glass - the portion that's over the front seats. The crack goes from the top of the windshield (a little left up the center), up...

    Firmware groundhogs day

The last 3 firmware updates over the last month or so seem to be the same one. Each time, ‘what’s new’ is the auto dimming mirrors update. Anyone else seeing the same or similar weirdness?

Elon Musk Confirms Made-In-Texas Model Y Will Be 4680-Powered

Assuming you’re looking at the list in my signature… I bought all up to the M3. It was a pain (and a bit scary due to some shady characters) trying to sell it, so I switched to leases after that.

    FM radio issue:

I’m having the same issue. Fixed by a reboot then happens again after a while (week-ish?). Happened 2-3 times so far. Seems like it started after the last SW update for me.
  9. E

    Radio stops working until reboot

Everything seemed fine until the last SW update - 2021.4.18.2 - now my radio stops working until I reboot the car. Then it works for a while (a week or so?) then does it again. It's happened 2-3 times now. When it happens, I still get sounds out of the car and I can listen to other music...
  10. E

    Radio goes silent

I am having the same issue in my Model 3. The radio eventually stops working until I reboot the car - then I'm good again for a while. I don't think it's an antenna issue since a reboot fixes it each time. Started happening after the last SW update.

    Door/trunk weirdness? Fob weirdness?

I may have to try that battery swap. While the car doesn't come with a fob, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of bidirectional communication between the fob and car that could relay the battery status - I *think* it's using a bluetooth link.
  12. E

    Door/trunk weirdness? Fob weirdness?

Curious if this is a common problem - a lot of times I got to open my door/trunk and it stays locked. Sometimes, I get a bonus and sentry beeps angrily at me. Very rarely, I get in and the car says there’s no key and won’t start. Eventually, it registers and I’m good. I use the fob and not the...

    USAA and windshield replacement

I didn‘t watch the procedure, but noticed no problems with the radio afterwards (used it every day).

    USAA and windshield replacement

FWIW, I have USAA and took the 911 I had at the time to Safelite to get the front window replaced. They use 3rd party glass unless a) there is no 3rd party alternative or b) the local warehouse has OEM and it’ll take too long to get 3rd party. They ended up replacing mine with OEM glass. Other...

Sell Model 3 and wait for tax change?

You‘ll get the hang of the manual quickly if you have the basics down now. Some people just don’t get it, but since you have the basics you’re not one of them. I did the same in college. Picked up a manual during break. Dad showed me how to drive it over 3 afternoons - hills were the worst, so...

Please help read license plate from Sentry Clip

Some people just can’t drive. I saw someone at work swipe a car parking and it was a simple straight spot. Guy tried to pull in at an angle, hit the bumper corner then instead of aborting felt it was a good idea to continue forward and make it worse. Then backed out without straightening up so...

How do people leasing cars deal with the wait

Op - it’s pretty frustrating. I talked to the Tesla folks in Del Amo and was told that I could time my lease by ordering ahead of time. They said they could state a delivery date in the order system. I’d essentially be skipped each time my allocation came up, but once the date hit, I’d get...

Elon Musk Confirms Made-In-Texas Model Y Will Be 4680-Powered

If they’re 12-18 months from volume production and it’s starting in the Y first, it could easily be 2+ years before it’s in a 3. That’s a long delay. Depending on how long you keep your car (I’m on a 3-3.5 yr cycle), it would be almost time for the next one by then if you stuck with your current...

Expensive lesson learned. I broke my rear glass

He broke his window and is annoyed because he was trying to fix something that shouldn’t have been messed up in the first place. My roof glass is misaligned too, but I didn’t bother to ask after Tesla said all of my other misaligned stuff was “in spec”. Agree that fit and finish is subpar in...

    Just venting over “first scratch”

Weird, that they said that. I had my Uberturbines repaired in my driveway.
  23. E

    Just venting over “first scratch”

That‘s a super minor fix. Call one of those mobile wheel repair guys and $90 (or probably less since you’re in TX) and 20 min later you’ll be almost good as new.

Just got notified my Blue M3 LR RWD is totaled

My GF’s dad got in an accident, 100% other person’s fault (reckless driving). The other guy had the Cali min, which is $15k. Car is totaled, he’s permanently injured, not good. TBD on if they see a penny because the guy hit someone else first before crashing into her dad. - edit - Googled the...

Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta V9 Will ‘Blow Your Mind,’ Says Musk

It all makes sense now! If they got FSD fully functional, Tesla would be the only one liable for accidents, incur all of the lawsuits and go broke - so no more torts. But, if it were advanced far enough to *almost* be perfect but not far enough to claim autonomy, GMO-future-Elon knows that the...

Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta V9 Will ‘Blow Your Mind,’ Says Musk

Not in all cases. It really depends on what criteria you’re judging that by.
  28. E

Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta V9 Will ‘Blow Your Mind,’ Says Musk

I think it gets you automatic parking too and the ability to use it on local roads. I change cars every 2.5-3.5 years so I didn’t even consider FSD - no point in paying so much for something that may not even be fully complete during my course of ownership.
  29. E

Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta V9 Will ‘Blow Your Mind,’ Says Musk

That doesn’t even make sense at a logical level. Vision > Vision + Radar If, in theory, you could get near perfect with vision, then it only makes sense that adding another sensor into the mix will make you even more better. It only works if you constrain the problem to force trades, but even...

Tesla does not accurately represent inventory level

Sounds like my order from Overstock.com. It suddenly changed from in stock to cancelled and refunded per my request. I called them and said I did no such thing. Turned out they oversold inventory and didn’t have any more in stock so they cancelled my order. Misleading message to make it look...

Person Hits Model 3 and attempts to Flee

I'm curious about the outcome of this. Years back I had a parking lot incident. My insurance company told me that parking lot accidents are 50/50 fault regardless of whom hit whom. The agent said I was lucky that I was in CA because they can't raise rates on a 50/50 by law. However, she said...

Re: Sofas: Except, you were planning to use your old sofa until the new one got delivered and then just have the old one thrown away... so the delay didn’t matter too much. Re: “Sofas”: Some people may have sold their old sofa to pay for the new one and now have no sofa to sit on since the...

    New Interior Trim

Initially I liked it, but I think I like having the door separate from the front console - it gives more purpose to the console. The trim looks neat, but it draws the eye to the door which is not a particularly interesting thing as far as cars go. Also, the first thing I thought when I heard...

    Sentry Mode stopped working (2021.4.12)

My car has been acting weird for months since a couple of SW updates ago. the doors/trunk don’t always immediately open when I pull on the handle. Then I’m standing out there like an idiot trying to get in. Sentry usually goes off on me in the process. Yesterday after getting in, the car...

Anyone regret getting a P after you did mods?

There is a point where HP just doesn't matter any more. Many American cars have more HP than their chassis can handle which is why Mustangs, Chargers, etc seem to have a knack for flying off the road and into trees. Aside from on the track, there is only so much HP that you can harness on our...
  37. E

Anyone regret getting a P after you did mods?

The cars are so stupid fast now that more power really isn't that important to me anymore (or maybe I’m getting old). At this point, assuming we’re talking about the P, I’d prefer that Tesla’s improvement money go to things like handling (less body roll, better turning radius, better steering...

Tesla Service Center Damaged my wheel while in service

It's easily fixable if you're OK with a 90% solution - try calling one of those mobile tire repair guys and they'll take care of it . I "did a stupid" a few weeks ago and got mine fixed in my driveway. You probably wouldn't find it if I didn't tell you about it (and zoom in on it).

Selling Model 3 - Need some insight into pricing it

Matches my general experience with non-Tesla cars. Dealer offer generally seems to be in the realm of KBB trade-in value minus $5k.
  40. E

    Is it totaled?

Per KBB, your trade in value would be around $34-35k so it should be within the repairable zone.

Side of car scraped against cobblestone, NO marks?!

Here is my test for a pressure washer - if you can hold your hand under the nozzle, you're good to go. If it hurts more than a tiny bit, turn it down.

Closing the front doors vs rear doors

All but my driver side door are hard to close. Complained, they said it was in spec and didn’t fix it. I haven’t had to slam a car door like that since the 80s.
  43. E

    Rolling back when too close?

Ah, you’re probably right, as he wasn’t in reverse, must have been roll mode. Wasn’t aware of roll, just hold (my preferred) and creep.

Amazon delivery van backed into my parked car, advice appreciated

Just curious, who is your new insurance carrier? Might be useful so people know not to do business with them as they seem to have no interest in doing their job. This really should be a simple thing of calling your carrier and letting them handle this for you.
  45. E

    Rolling back when too close?

Creep mode moves the car forward like a torque converter, not backwards as far as I know. I was a little surprised a day or two ago to see the Model 3 in front of me roll back about an inch before going forward when the light turned green. I didn’t think Tesla’s did that.
  46. E

    The accident saga begins...

Ouch - best of luck with you repair. Based on what I’ve been observing, I’ve come to the conclusion that people forgot how to drive during the lockdown and now they’re out in droves driving absolutely terribly. Stay safe everyone.

    SW acting whacky.

SW has been acting strange of late. Anyone else having issues? A couple of weeks back, the screen wasn’t lighting up immediately upon opening the door. Then it locked up on me when I put the car in reverse (black screen) and I had to reboot in my driveway. Just did another SW update on...

Annual license plate renewal fees - how much in your state?

$900 in CA sounds high. I just pulled up my lease paperwork and I payed about $620 in license and registration fees for my new M3P on delivery. I’d have to pull up my tax records, but $900 sounds closer to what I was paying for my Porche 911 when I had it.

    2021 M3P preforms worse than LR and a 2019 M3P

Not necessarily - the EPA tests are still a bit artificial and there are multiple methods of doing the tests - some of which are more simulated than others. Something like this SoC effect could potentially be gamed in some way. I do know it’s not uncommon for car manufactures to game the result...
