    Alternatives to a tesla *gasp*

I've driven the M50, and it's very close to the Model S in feel. However, it can't put its power down nearly as well, there is a slight delay when pressing the accelerator (why on earth?), and the range is only so so. Build quality is better, it's quiet and rides as well as an S - it also has...

    M3P Tyre Issues

It doesn't even need to be a pothole - the expansion strips on dual carriageways/motorway joining points can be bad too. There is one as I join the M11 from the A406, I need to keep to the left lane as the right lane joint is raised and it feels like the cars has been struck by a cannonball...

    M3P Tyre Issues

I'm running Michelin PS4S's on my M3P and last year had small bulges in both n/s tyres. I do remember going over a hole though. There is no wheel damage, just the tyres. I replaced both tyres as I didn't trust them to not blow out - although in reality there was probably only a tiny chance of...

    Pre-conditioning for short trips

For short trips (which I do daily for the kids), I don't see the need to precondition the battery, I would only do that on road trips to maximise range. However, I do see the need to pre-heat the interior when it's chilly outside. If the car is plugged in, it will draw the power from that, if...

V11 - Remaining Trip Battery Mileage [where is it?]

I was just about to post about this. I find it frustrating that with every 'update', something is worse. Why on earth would the programmers think it a good idea to bury the remaining battery data that deep down - it used to be visible with the time of arrival and miles travelled.

Opinions from Model S owners who now have a Model Y

Owning an M3P and having driven a 75D for a few days, I agree. However, the M3P is more fun to drive imo as it feels more nimble, but it's too loud and the ride sometimes (quite often) feels a bit, er, agricultural.

    M3 AWD in reverse?

Ah, yes, I scan read the thread. Seems to be more of a software control issue then?
  13. rincewind

    M3 AWD in reverse?

The underlying issue seems to be the tyres. On winters or even all season this would be less likely to happen. Summer tyres + snow = slip/sod all traction. AWD will make no difference if all the wheels have no traction.

Oh those wipers (again, I know...)

So, just as I thought it was safe.... Recently during daytime driving the auto wipers have, at long last been pretty good. At last, I thought, some progress. Until it rained last night. They would absolutely not turn on, and it was raining fairly hard and constantly. I checked that they...

Model 3 Performance - Pilot Sport 4S Tyres, a small tip

Hi all, I recently found myself needing two new tyres due to bulges in the sidewalls (damn potholes). I could not find anywhere to get the T0 MichelinPilot Sport 4S, so I went for the same tyre but Porsche approved instead. A little cheaper, I can't tell any difference in noise levels, and...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

Absolutely correct. It's based on the exisiting 4 series Gran Coupe, hence the transmission tunnel still existing and the general lack of interior space. The Model 3 does it so much better space wise, as does something like this.

2019 to latest Model 3 - worth it?

tbh, I drove both i4 versions and came to the conclusion that the i4 is a better cruiser, but the Model 3 is the better drivers car. There are too many compromises in the i4, it can't put it's power down nearly as well as the model 3, it's steering feels dead, and yes, the range is not great...

2019 to latest Model 3 - worth it?

Having driven the BMW i4, I can confirm that it's a lot quieter than the Model 3 (although I personally didn't 'click' with the car). Much better ride too. Supercharger network is already starting to open up to other EV's.

2019 to latest Model 3 - worth it?

I have it in mind that replacing my M3P with a newer one when the lease expires is an option. After seeing this, the option is dwindling more and more. There are other choices now. Electrifying.com have just tested the M3 and the BMW i4 together and came to the conclusion that the i4 is their...

2019 to latest Model 3 - worth it?

My lease expires in December of this year (M3P), and I'm looking at other options, mainly because of the noise levels in the Tesla, and to a lesser extent the ride. I didn't 'click' with the BMW i4 M50, so looking elsewhere. I'm very interested in this, although of course the test drive is all...

    Mobile app updates

I dropped her off, drove away and about 10 seconds later my music stopped playing (it was coming from my phone, which of course is now no longer in the car). Then the car popped up a message telling me that walk away lock was not available. Then the penny dropped... So, I picked up her phone...

BMW iX Overpriced in the UK?

I've test driven one last weekend. Ride quality and niose leves are notably better than the Model 3 (my performance model) but the weight, size and especially the drivetrain are off par. Simply put, the Tesla drives better. Throttle response is much better, as is steering feel.

Yes, much wider than the T0 designation ones. It's really apparent.
  35. rincewind

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

It doesn't, it feels much bigger and a bit ponderous, struggles to hide that 2290kg weight - that's 400 ish more than the M3P and it shows. You may find this very interesting. More videos still to come too.
  36. rincewind

    4680 Battery for Model 3 - when?

True, and I do hope that a software update will cure the lag. However, I found that overall it felt a bit ponderous and couldn't hide it's weight. The M3 is much more nimble.
  37. rincewind

    4680 Battery for Model 3 - when?

It weighs over 2,200kg. That's how. Honestly, I was really interested in the i4 but not now. The other thing that put me off was BMW's usual game of adding 'extras'. Even the top spec M50 doesn't have traffic aware cruise control. Oh no sir, that only comes as part of the Tech Plus Pack -...
  38. rincewind

    4680 Battery for Model 3 - when?

It barely managed 180 miles in this. It wasn't particularly cold either. Having had a test drive of the M50, I am in agreement with the video. The M50 has a better ride and is quieter, and a better finish. However, the Model 3 is by some margin the better drivers car. His comments about...

    4680 Battery for Model 3 - when?

So, after considering a BMW i4 M50 as my next car, I have now driven one and reviewed pretty much all of the available info on it, and decided it's not good enough. So, I'm now back to the Model 3 Performance as the front runner when my lease expires on my current M3P in December 22. I would...

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

On the subject of frameless windows, I've driven a Model S which also has them and there is no wind noise. Conclusion is the Model 3 seal and frame design is not as good.

  43. rincewind

    M3P VS BMW I4 M50

I thought I'd update my thoughts on this, having now test driven the M50 last Sunday. The M50 is better on ride quality, noise levels and cabin ambience. However, the Model 3 P beats it for driving pleasure. The M3P has a better throttle response, feels better on the steering i.e. can feel...

M3P Pilot Sport 4 vs Silent

I had the same dilemma a month ago. In the end I went for the Pilot Sport 4S with the Porsche marking. This was actually because I could not find the Tesla ones (T0 designation) anywhere in the country. A month into 'ownership', and I can tell no difference in noise levels. As per Adopado's...

Here's a comparison drag race. https://www.i4talk.com/threads/i4-m50-vs-tesla-m3-performance-drag-race-by-carwow.876/ Having had an M3P for 2 years, I'm considering the M50. Having been in one, I can say the interior is very very nice indeed. That screen is an OLED for a start, and it knocks...

    Model 3 changes for 2022

Hi all, I think I recently heard that Tesla are making some changes to the Model 3 for 2022. Anyone know anthing about this? I ask as my lease expires June 22 and I'm now looking at what my next car will be. A part of me would like to stay with the Model 3, but the noise levels in my 2019...
