Rear Windshield [tint], 2 piece or 1 piece?

Agreed, the 2 piece looks cheap. Find a better shop, or don't do it at all.

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Good catch - yes CO$T, not price!

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

These are Tesla models Tesla does not want to produce. There is only one assembly line for Model X and zero for Cybertruck. All energy is on producing as many Model Y's as possible and bringing down the price. That is Tesla's golden child. Everything else is a loss leader. The truth hurts :(

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Competition is good. FORD has some unexpected useful features. I fear Tesla is behind the ball having to play catchup with features, and that will cause big delays.

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

I feel for the Roadster reservation holders - will that car ever get built and delivered? Wonder if Cybertruck is in the same stuck loop.

Cybertruck gigapress (9000T Idra Press) being assembled! in Italy.

Must be the same, 9000 ton vs 8000 ton is just the Metric to Imperial conversion :p

All of the rubber window seals are disintegrating on my 2 yr old Model S. Anyone also have this problem?

Sounds like a case of the Andromeda strain! ref: Why did the Andromeda Strain start digesting rubber (polychron) and human bodies?

Looking for gen 1 HPWC 80 AMP dual charger.

    I think Hank is right. my Gen2 does 72 amps for sure - I think it'll do 80 - haven't tried.

Looking for gen 1 HPWC 80 AMP dual charger.

You can fine replacement cables if you keep a keen eye out. Might be easier than finding a Gen 1 HPWC.

Tesla msking HUGE mistake with Superchargers

I have unlimited free supercharging on my 10yo MS. This whole CSS things sounds so foreign to me. What I'm gleaning from this thread is is that I might not be able to charge anymore for free because my charge port is obsolete?

Do I buy a second hand model S or new model 3 ?

I prefer my S for long trips (The Air ride is niiiiice). but my 3 for zipping around town and eating BMW's for lunch at the light etc... It's like asking what kind of shoes do you want to wear (for the rest of your life).. Some days a nice loafer beats a running shoe and other days it's the...

Waking up IC on bench without MCU

Checkout this post regarding why I thought it was just an "X" terminal - it apparently listens on port 6000: Successful connection on the Model S internal Ethernet network
  16. Hank42

Waking up IC on bench without MCU

Where is it getting the image data from if you have no MCU connected? I thought(and this may be waaaay outdated info from 2012) that the speedo screen was just an X display on the ethernet bus, and the MCU displayed images on it by setting the xdisplay variable to the IP of the speedo - i.e...

Hansshow auto frunk warped my hood?

Is it? The Model S is, was not sure about the 3 - I thought the 3 was all steel. But I could totally be mistaken on that.
  18. Hank42

Hansshow auto frunk warped my hood?

You know, I read the title as "WRAPPED" and wondered how thick the wrap was to keep you from closing your hood. Guess I've been reading too many wrap threads. Those photos look really bad. I've never seen such a thing - Can't tell if it is warped from the photos, but sure does look like it...

Wie Gehts! Did you mean simracing? Sounds like a neat idea. Not sure if this is helpful, but might get you on the correct path to find what you need: https://tinkla.us/index.php/Tesla_CAN_Bus https://www.instructables.com/Exploring-the-Tesla-Model-S-CAN-Bus/

    v11 software update SUCKS

Yes! Move to Florida! Clearly this is a user issue and not an issue with the software! :P
  22. Hank42

    v11 software update SUCKS

Well said. Voice commands also suck and are just a gimmick. They suck because they are not well documented (The documentation states that new words are added over time - but where can I go to tell which new words?) I can use voice commands to "turn fog lights off" , but "turn headlights off"...

    v11 software update SUCKS

Yes, it would be challenging. But so was climbing Mt. Everest, but as a species, we did it! Is this worth doing - probably not, but I figured I'd pull the thread and start the conversation at least. Heck, even leaving the existing MCU in place and hopping in the CAN bus with an alternate...

    v11 software update SUCKS

So we're stuck with an excellent piece of EV machinery 5-6 generations above anything the competition has to offer, but with a brain dead interface. Time for an opensource aftermarket MCU that can plug and go. Maybe one that doesn't support autopilot and all that baloney, but one that is...

    v11 software update SUCKS

I never thought of that - why is the GUI and the Internal "make stuff go" code in separate releases?
  26. Hank42

    v11 software update SUCKS

Well, in my defense, a gesture to enable the overlay and nothing more. Actually controlling something with a gesture is SCARY. In any event, a sterring wheel button press to activate the overlay is easier and implementable TODAY.
  27. Hank42

    v11 software update SUCKS

I welcome that, but let's be honest, V10 is no bowl of cherries either. We've just had a lot of time to get used to it. While I won't go as far to say that we'll ever be happy with V11, we'll get used to it and bitch a little less. I think the direction Tesla is headed in with Entertainment...

    v11 software update SUCKS

I think gestures on a plane might be more prone to false input under demanding situations such as turbulence etc.. For a car, I think the margin for error is acceptable - bumpy roads might be the worst of it. You just gave me an adjustment to my original gesture idea - I'm really big on...

    v11 software update SUCKS

You just gave me an idea - one that Tesla could defiantly implement and leverage in the future. My biggest gripe is the location and size of the "important" buttons. Some of them are now one or two clicks deep, which is frustrating. The need of this seems to be rooted in the belief that...

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

I was thinking exactly the same thing: "Wait, we're back to color now?" I remember the whole thread when that was taken away for a more cleaner streamlined look... Funny how tastes change.... C'mon Tesla, put an end to all this bickering and let the user skin the UI the way we like! I mean...

Question for those with a Tri-Motor order

  32. Hank42

Question for those with a Tri-Motor order

I whole-heartedly agree that 500 minimum is needed because that's ideal circumstances. Use the truck the way a truck is intended to be used, i.e. loaded with cargo, or towing a trailer, and that range could drop less than half in no time. I don't care how many motors it has, so long as the...

V11 is going to be HUGE!

I can't wait until V12 - they're going to replace the steering wheel with a touch-screen version - it's size and location will change with each release :P

V11 is going to be HUGE!

Yes, that button is AWESOME - there should be MORE OF THEM. In my case, the button did not work!!!! Casing me to franticly look for the wiper section burried in the GUI. Is the button not working related to the update? I dunno it did not work when I needed it and accessing the wipers in the...

V11 is going to be HUGE!

You mean the one that FIXES piece of duct-tape and chewing gum called V11? Yeah, I'd like to know too.. I got stuck on the interstate in a snowstorm today because the wiper GUI is now like 10 submenus deep, but I can watch Netflix with one click from my "favorites" menu while I wait for the...

My v11 peeves. Have they also removed % expected, and roundtrip % from navigation?

Dear Tesla, Please send the UI developers you hired for V11 back to Apple. People who know that the interface needs to be usable while travelling at great velocity and...

Ford Announces Crate Motor for EV Conversions

It's nice to see. Lots of marketing mileage for sure. It's also a big snub to Mopar - who is so far from embracing EV it's not funny. Let's just ignore this Dodge's electric muscle car, due in 2024, is only one of Mopar's EV schemes and take it for what it is - vaporware, just like it was...

Gen1 HPWC refuses to charge dual-charger P85D. How to troubleshoot?

I had a similar problem with the same setup as you. It ended up being the cable has jplasmd mentions. Cleaning it might work, for me, the pitting was so bad that the cable had to be replaced - which Tesla doesn't do(anymore) - replacing the charger with a new(old stock) V1 charger is one...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

I have a Gen 1 Model S with dual onboard chargers capable of 80A. I used to think I needed it, but I'll tell you a few things - wiring that puppy (correctly) was a pain due to the large conductor size, and the recommended conductors don't fit the screw terminals properly :( That aside, I...

Plaid Owners PSA: Ifhate the Yoke/Turn Signals/Horn, please complain to the NHTSA

Horns are useless anyway. 8 years ago, I watched, in painful slow motion, while someone was backing into my new Model S. I was stationary, had a car behind me and could not move - I leaned on the horn for a solid 15 seconds until "bump". The other driver was yelling at me when she realized she...

Blog Musk Says Cybertruck Will Have Removable Mirrors

Good compromise to expedite production and delivery - once less thing (changing the law) to worry about causing a delay. Perhaps a retrofit when the law changes? Also good for those with long trailers - perhaps we'll see extended side mirrors for that use-case.

Albany NY wall charger electrician / price

You mentioned L6R-20 - do you want just an outlet, or do you want to hardwire a charger - i.e. Tesla's HPWC? Depending on the answer, the cost of the wire is your biggest cost factor here. Also, assuming your ceiling is open in the basement to run the horizontal run, the labor costs should...

Albany NY wall charger electrician / price

How far is your desired charging site from the electrical panel? Is it in the same dwelling, or will the charger be installed outside where a trench for the wire needs to be dug? Do you have any free breaker slots? What is the model of the panel and the main breaker service? Having at least...

Blog Tesla Crashes into Cop Car After Launch of NHTSA Autopilot Investigation

Being stopped on the shoulder of a highway, police or not, is dangerous and nobody should expect to have any sense of safety.
