Model 3 delivered with 75 foot-pounds lug-nut torque [Update: 75 ft lbs to loosen, not tighten]

Agreed, it’s impossible to remove Tesla’s lug nuts with the provided tools.

    FSD is a fraud

I think the current space is far from the worst. The worst will be when it drives without error for a month and then catches you off guard. With a once a month failure rate there are going to be many people who go an entire year without an intervention, how attentive will they be? Progress does...

    FSD is a fraud

Because the only plausible mechanism by which FSD Beta could make driving safer is to put people in a hyper vigilant state of fear that it will steer into oncoming traffic.:p They could also be concerned about the perception that it is unsafe though Elon has said he doesn't care about that. It...

    FSD is a fraud

If Waymo test drivers were caught doing what some FSD Beta users do they would be fired immediately. It blows my mind how many FSD Beta testers publish videos of themselves breaking the law on YouTube. If they get in a collision later that can be used as evidence against them in a civil or...

    FSD is a fraud

Vaccinated people show symptoms earlier because their immune systems react faster to the infection. I think this was an expected result but I'm not sure. If the people in the trial were sequestered they wouldn't get COVID... I think the standard for FSD Beta should be whether it makes the roads...

    FSD is a fraud

Yes, it was a joke! I assume that what @drtimhill is eluding to is that people are "forced" to take the COVID vaccine through economic coercion. Not sure what any of this has to do with FSD Beta though!
  9. Daniel in SD

Seriously, why does Elon feel the need to lie about even short-term fsd beta timelines.

I think he does it to put pressure on the engineers.

    FSD V GM CRUISE

How much does a Cybertruck cost? Probably 100's of millions of dollars! I predict Tesla will be able to bring down the cost though. Anyway, the Cruise Origin, the production robotaxi will be produced for “for roughly half the cost of what a conventional electric SUV costs today.” (though from...

    FSD is a fraud

That's quite a stretch. Self-driving cars are nothing like humans. You're not even training them, you're testing them. Has anyone ever been able to explain why having such a large test fleet is beneficial? Obviously it helps you find bugs faster but it's not like they're searching for the last...

    Autonomous Car Progress

The Tesla driver is also a precog! 😱 Seriously though I think the Waymo saw the Tesla slow down and angle slightly to the left. It's also quite possible that they signaled and it doesn't show up video due to frame rate.

Not sure. They reported 2.3 million miles of on road testing in California which is only 44k miles a week average. However it looks like they did the vast majority of testing towards the end of the year. They did it with 567 vehicles. It's weird to me that even the most used vehicle was 17k...

Waymo claims to be driving 100,000 miles a week in San Francisco. Try to do that and dodge all the bad human drivers. I do suspect that they drive in non human ways and get hit more often too.

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Most people think L3 highway is easier than city. For example Mercedes is releasing an L3 highway traffic jam system in Germany and hopefully California soon. Though maybe an L3 city system is possible. All the current robotaxis use remote assistance which is sort of like L3 (except they all...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

How would an L3 robotaxi work? Ask the drunk guy in the backseat to climb into the front and take control? It's clear that FSD is L5, it handles the entire driving task and can drive anywhere, it just isn't as safe as a human yet so it requires a safety driver. I'll sell you a ticket to another...

Another thing to keep in mind is that, while it’s free for family and friends, if you want to use your Tesla as commercial robotaxi you have to do it on the Tesla Network and they’re going to take a cut. They haven’t announced how much yet but I bet it won’t be as lucrative as you hope.

    Autonomous Car Progress

My prediction is that no one will be right and driverless consumer vehicles will not happen for at least another decade. Then Tesla will have wasted the least amount of money. What Tesla really has to worry about is a competitor developing a full speed highway L3 system.
  28. Daniel in SD

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Reliability is known, they report every single crash. Though I guess they probably haven't driven enough driverless miles yet to really know. Cruise has expanded though they still don't cover downtown. They definitely test in all of San Francisco so they probably will eventually.
  29. Daniel in SD

    FSD V GM CRUISE

I don't understand how you can watch that and think that geofencing is the difference that allows them to achieve the reliability necessary for driverless operation.

But do wheel destroying potholes appear out of nowhere or do they progressively get larger?
  32. Daniel in SD

    FSD V GM CRUISE

At best they're 90% efficient and they require AC. So now to do 250kW you're dissipating 25kW of heat somehow and you've got to have a massive AC to DC converter in the car (the current one is only 12kW). For reference look at the size of the supercharger cabinets.

I had forgotten that the Optimus prototype will be shown later this year. I admit that I was stumped about how the cross country summon would work. Hopefully Optimus will also be able to move my legacy HW2.5 car after I finish charging so I can avoid idle fees. It's funny that making a humanoid...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

In a sense Tesla has beat everyone to L5. haha. FSD Beta could be an L5 system that's still in development (Tesla claims it's not! I say it is but those arguments get nowhere). Mercedes is deploying an L3 system, meaning it will no longer requires a safety driver. Well I disagree. All the major...

It's from the actual SAE document (SAE J3016_202104.pdf - UNECE Wikihttps://wiki.unece.org › download › attachments). I think the intent is to prevent companies from circumventing autonomous vehicle testing regulations by claiming their prototypes are driver assist features. Back in 2016 Uber...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

This is not why it would be L2. From the SAE J3016: If you search for this quote on the forum you can find endless arguments about it. Are you asking who would find a driverless vehicle that can drive anywhere I can useful? Or just the renting it out as a robotaxi?

    Autonomous Car Progress

Or the perception NN can’t tell the position of a curb 10 feet away or a bollard directly in front of the car. Because the state of the art in camera based computer vision isn’t sufficient for self driving and nobody knows when it will be.
  39. Daniel in SD

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

Those are both objectively bad drivers. I want it to drive as smoothly as the average Uber driver (who are actually pretty good). I definitely don't want it to drive like me when I'm solo, that would be terrifying. And if it were still an L2 system, impossible to supervise.
  40. Daniel in SD

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Haha. These are tough ones. I think the supercharger network is now profitable (have you seen the prices!) and often congested so it still makes sense to expand it for the existing fleet. Robotaxis are going to return to depots for cleaning and charging. The Robotaxi model will based on the...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Elon is actually logically consistent on this. There is no way Tesla will continue to sell cars to consumers when they have robotaxis with no geofence next year. Obviously once they meet the demand for the Tesla Robotaxi (100 million units?) then they will sell cars to consumers again. Though...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I agree, full speed systems need to be able to pull over to a shoulder (even though it's not strictly required in the definition of L3). What I mean is we won't know if it's actually safe until we get a few hundred million miles of data. Does Mercedes even sell enough S-class and EQS vehicles...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

It's not in production yet, but yeah it definitely won't be for sale. GM claims the Cruise Origin, the production version that's supposedly coming in 2023, will cost less than a midsize SUV to manufacture. Elon says they're going to stop selling cars to consumers once FSD is out of beta so you...

    EAP Return to US

Not really, they can sell EAP now to the doubters for $6k and then sell FSD to them next year for $50k when it's robotaxi capable. The only reason they charge so little for FSD now is that they need beta testers and the current discount is still cheaper than the cost and liability of having...

No I’m saying it can see the position of the curb better than someone sitting in the driver‘s seat, about 8 feet ahead and 2 feet to the side. Software is already far superior than humans at doing the “extrapolating” you’re talking about. The car knows the exact wheel speed and steering position...

Ok so I realized that measuring this is actually quite simple since we know the view is masked by the shroud. I used a flashlight and positioned on the ground it as close to possible to the car while still illuminating the fisheye lens. I got a range of about 7 feet directly in front of the car...

    Bring back EAP (to USA)

There are AP and EAP cars (like mine) with HW2.5 or HW2. It's very likely that at some point the latest version of EAP will only run on HW3. Actually it's already happened with vision based autopark. Though I could upgrade to HW3 for $1k.
