Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

I notice he never said anything about some old local maximum, now we've unlocked some new secret path forward toward future bliss. It's just trash and needs a lot of work. I'm not arguing with Elon on this point. I do hope they hire some UI veterans, this is obviously not thought through.
  2. OxBrew

Seriously. What is your max amount you'd pay for EAP?

$500 for Auto Lane Change, and dumb summon. I don't even want the car to change lanes for me, just stop the bing bong noise when I shut down AP and re-engage. Wakes up the family. $100 bucks for that? I would like to be able to nudge the car in the driveway sometimes, to get past it with the...

Car & Driver: The Mach E is simply better than the Model Y

Contractor issues can be really hard to solve. Previous company I worked for had issues with a Siemens 480V AC contactor welding shut under high temps and high current, but still within rated parameters. Took Siemens R & D 2 years to figure out the root cause. I left before the actual final...

Car & Driver: The Mach E is simply better than the Model Y

Exactly. Still baffles me why no one is just copying them. I know the reason though: "what can I source right now and ship next quarter or next year?" That's all that matters.

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Still on 12.3.2. PB is basically solved, but awareness of oncoming traffic in my lane is dangerously lacking. Drove 1500 miles the last 5 days, I-90 across WA State and back, and Spokane to Boise and back. Exactly 2 medium semi PB events while using TACC (slowed 15 mph, not AEB, felt like max...

    Version 2022.16.x

And at least include a live list of known bugs with fix dates, so we can judge the risk of updating; bonus for Tesla, it reduces noise in the Service Request system. This is basic stuff, not hard.
  7. OxBrew

    Version 2022.16.x

Exactly. If I was retired and bored, I might have band width to play with risky new updates. I am not, and don't have time to mess around. Stuff just needs to work. I'm on a different system than 4 weeks: I'm now getting sticky with good releases, staying on them for months if needed, but...

    Phantom braking events with pics

What month/year was your car built? I'm on 12.3.2, 9/2021 build date, and AP handles those exact situations really well. All previous versions would freak out and slow at least 5, sometimes up to 15 mph, not every shadow, but at least half of them. 12.3.2 and 12.3.3 should be about the same...
  9. OxBrew

I keep getting updates only a few percent of the fleet ever get I wonder why? This time it's 2022.12.3.7.5.

You might have an interesting build configuration that needs special handling? So many parts are getting substituted on the fly, and if you're tagged as always downloading updates quickly, you might be on a special list. Or just random chance.

Regen cuts out on steep slow corner

Very interesting, good to know. I'll try the off road and if that doesn't work, keeping the speed up a bit.
  11. OxBrew

    Version 2022.16.x

Any feedback on 12.3.12? I'm on 12.3.2, and really love it. AP/TACC is flawless so far, could not be better, really do not want to regress. No PB events, even in the most challenging conditions. No other major bugs at all either.

    Songs that just hit hard...

Tesselate, by Alt-J. Actually that whole album: An Awesome Wave. Then Sleaford Mods, Mork n Mindy. IDK why, just can't stop listening to that one in the car.

Body shop said paints shouldn’t match??

Pretty normal for a long time, like everyone said. I saw a Y the other day that was wrapped, and the bumper was different than the fender. I think the seam happens to be on a transition that often happens to be a natural color break: if it was all one piece, there would be a color change there...
  14. OxBrew

Regen cuts out on steep slow corner

Very possible, loose gravel on top of hard dirt/gravel. I guess the corner could contribute to the wheel slip? same loose gravel above and below the corner.
  15. OxBrew

Regen cuts out on steep slow corner

The dirt road down to our cabin is pretty steep, with a sharp left corner in the steepest part, about 2/3 the way down the maybe 1/4 mile hill. We always arrive with about 60% SOC, and fully warmed up battery after the 80 mile drive. We're always going about 5-8mph down the road, using regen...

The catastrophe of FSD and erosion of trust in Tesla

What finished RT version? What is an RT version (I don't what you mean by RT)? "The catastrophe of FSD" is down to the public wide release software not being much good. If the standard AP, one: can't be used where there's cross traffic (really? so someone on a freeway spins out of control in...

The catastrophe of FSD and erosion of trust in Tesla

I don't know about you, but I can't drive in tule fog or white out snow, but I can drive in a lot worse conditions than vision only AP, which gives up in heavy rain, and can't even start to handle a normal snow covered street in the morning on a clear bright sunny day.
  18. OxBrew

The catastrophe of FSD and erosion of trust in Tesla

OK, what about plain old emergency braking? I had a car turn left in front of me while I was doing about 60 on a divided 4 lane highway. I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid t-boning them. Car never saw anything, no warning, no braking, nothing. I have collision avoidance set to early. Only...

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

agree 100%. Just found a new bug: climate stays on when I park now, no matter what I do. I set it to keep on one time, then immediately made sure it was off, but no, now it is always on for ever. Before turning it on, it was fine, shut off as usual. So every time I park now, we need to...

The catastrophe of FSD and erosion of trust in Tesla

Ford? CEO. changed the whole company's strategy after renting an S for 3 days. He said he saw the future or something. The causation is there.
  21. OxBrew

The catastrophe of FSD and erosion of trust in Tesla

Wow, I must be doing the math wrong: if Tesla sells 1 million cars with an FSD rate of 7%, that's 70,000 cars. At 12k each, that would be $840 million in revenue? Pretty decent chunk of cash. I don't know what the actual FSD rate is, just a number that popped up in google.

    2022.12.x

On 12.3.2, new bug: rear speakers (all except front) cut out for a second sometimes (like 3/15) when I get a text. Only weird bug I have, not seeing any other problems.
  23. OxBrew

    2022.12.x

I'm actually just joking, obviously. What's wild is everyone I know with Teslas, maybe 10 people, mix of all models, are really generous decent people. I really think people don't see me, and I've only waved at maybe 6-8 S/X and like 75 3/Y, so I apologize. I would edit that bit out of the...
  24. OxBrew

    2022.12.x

I had that thought, and then looked closer: It's an S, so it's the screen behind the steering wheel, I'm assuming. S/X are the other side of the tracks from 3/Y. I have a score card: in my white Y I wave at every Tesla. About 75% of 3/Y wave back. Until now, after 8? months, 0% of S/X drivers...

Time to start using your PIN to drive...

ummmmm, I hope you keep it locked in a safe. Pretty dangerous. Smash and grab, now your gun is on the street, no bluetooth hack needed. Not trying to start any debate, just sayin.

    v11 software update SUCKS

I'm on 12.3.2, and if I tap the headlight icon, it brings up the quick light menu at the bottom.
  28. OxBrew

Another Model Y or go with a Model 3?

I'd seriously consider a 3, if it fit my life. With dogs and hauling stuff to the cabin every weekend, a second Y is more likely for us, but I really want a 3 as a second car. Handling is epic, Y is amazing but not in the same class. I'm not a big speed freak, but the 3P is faaaaaaaaast. Get a...

Time to start using your PIN to drive...

So someone needs to have 2 devices, one within 7meters of my phone and the other a few meters from my car? There is almost no time this can happen that I'm not actually standing near the car. Not at work, not at home, not parked out in the world. I could see this maybe working in a really busy...

Tesla service forcing me to update to v11

I waited as long as I could, but v11 is finally actually better than the last v10 in one great way: cruise control and auto steer actually works, never phantom brakes (even on 2 lane highways with trucks coming g at you in corners). And you can re-order stops in nav, that's great. That, plus...

    Autonomous Car Progress

This is all true, but I don't think Dieselgate is a perfect analogy. Diesel engines were well understood at the time. If they were trying to pilot a new fuel, that might be closer. FSD is brand new, everyone is blazing new ground almost every time they test a new implementation. I'm actually...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Yeah, thinking more about this, if that's truly the actual regulations, there is a huge hole that's really concerning, IMO.

    2022.12.3.1

Yeah, I've seen a full 1 hour rolling recording since day 1 (9/30/21)
  34. OxBrew

    2022.12.3.1

Different from the rolling 1 hour recording that's always there? Isn't that normal?

    Autonomous Car Progress

Not every possible permutation, any you can think up (basically). "the technical service authorities may perform any other test within the system boundaries" If I'm running the tests to certify, I'm checking everything I can think of, all weather conditions, lighting, traffic, edge cases. I'm...
  36. OxBrew

    Autonomous Car Progress

The regs say that any possible permutation you can dream up within the parameters MUST be tested, and the testers can add as many permutations of tests as they want to. So all of those things you mentioned etc etc etc are covered in the regs.

    Bike rack mode

Someone could make a plug that's just a trailer plug with a resistor across each of the turn signal pins, would add the missing resistance. Zip tie or leash it to your bike rack. I know, only a partial solution, since Tow mode also disables a lot of other stuff. Still want a bike rack mode!

    Suggestions for V11 Rework/Improvements

    2022.12.3.1

On 12.3.1 now, previously dashcam always worked perfectly. Then last week, had to swerve into the parking lane on a city street to avoid a truck that pulled out from the left, took over my entire spot in the lane. Went to hit record on the dashcam, and it was red x. Got home and investigated...

    v11 software update SUCKS

This one I'm sort of OK with now, after thinking about it: if conditions warranted defogging or de-icing, probably a good idea to keep the HVAC on to maintain clear windows. (at least that's what I tell myself so I can get past it) This is really frustrating. It even comes on when I have it set...

    v11 software update SUCKS

I did, for 2 reasons: last ditch hope that the reports of TACC/ AP working better might actually be true (family banned me from using them) and had to take it in to Tesla for a wheel change and brake lube. Also hoping the improved range estimates work better, we take a lot of road trips, and...

Have you received FSD you paid for?

"You don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get" -attribution: internet (aka unknown) seems to apply exactly in this case.

    2022.12.x

It makes no sense, but in our 9/21 build Model Y, the passenger's new bottom bar custom seat heater control shows up differently depending on HVAC temp split settings, and passenger presence. For vertical screens, it seems even more messed up. No consistency has emerged yet that I've been able...
  44. OxBrew

    2022.12.x

It shows up when you have a passenger, or if you split the controls. -ish sometimes it sticks around after un splitting. nothing seems consistent about it though, and varies among models, apparently

    2022.12.x

You can still use the icon in the HVAC settings, (right in the center, v10 was sooooo much better) if you ever did want it. (I love it, I have poor circulation in my fingertips from skiing, really helps).

    2022.12.x

2022.12.3.1: almost everything works. Audio all good, rear hatch opening right, basic AP is working great. Only minor thing is new steering wheel heat icon on the bar does not trigger the heater unless HVAC is on. Once HVAC is on, and heater toggled, then it seems to work in all cases. Also...

    2022.12.x

Just updated to 12.3.1. Had not seen this before, shows both L and R seat heaters (then puts both on the bar when you drag one down) Super happy with my new layout, even if wheel heater doesn't actually work if HVAC is off (shows red, but not on, after 3-4 minutes. Had to toggle it)
  48. OxBrew

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

Yeah, I had the full HVAC panel open to adjust the fan (only took a second or less) then hit the turn signals, and the blind spot camera is buried by the HVAC. Had to touch up high to dismiss the HVAC. I just quietly said whatever. Putting the camera up high would solve that, and then you...
