Multi storey car parking in a Model X

    Any best practises for charging

FWIW my "S" is 28 months old now and since I have free supercharging I tend to use that when I go shopping near the nearest superchargers (65Km away) - just because (a) I'm mean and (b) I like the coffee from the gas station where it is. I normally set it to 80% which means it's at 70% when I...

Multi storey car parking in a Model X

I've found that after grinding the rims down on various kerbs the car is significantly narrower, so easier to negotiate the sharp turns...💩

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Could be a problem - a sort of "time hysteresis" as the car slows then recalculates the time-speed equation?
  5. Wol747

    WH/mile?

That's a huge consumption on yours. Did you forget to take the caravan off?
  6. Wol747

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

The self parking "feature" is effectively useless. >>Why is the VW system so much better?<< My guess is that it changes from speed to distance but Tesla sticks with speed UNLESS it's closer to the leader. Stupid if true.

    NSW EV charging master plan

The link to the map doesn't work on that - I've notified them.

    installing EV charger apartment complex

That's fine: I just meant that setting the amps in the car to whatever your board can cope with or less does the same thing. Obviously setting the HPWC dip switch makes it a "hard" setting, unlike doing it on the car charging screen which - knowing how much setting can change by themselves(!) -...

    installing EV charger apartment complex

I have my car set to 10 - 15A (and to start when the sun's on the panels) but I suppose resetting the board makes it a harder number than software which might get altered?

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

I think mswlogo has decided to leave the thread, but I can't leave his posts up in the air. >>It doesn’t take a math genius to see a wheel will NOT be turning more than probably 20 degrees in a massive rotary like your showing. You be very smooth and relaxed maneuver. Perhaps you make it more...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

I can't honestly remember anyone lamenting the disappearance of the steam gauges! The glass cockpit was in almost all respects a vast improvement - but it had ergonomics at the forefront. And it's easy to forget the number of hull losses that have been caused by driver error compounded by...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

A quick Google for the Florida and the Michigan drivers' handbook - and I would hazard a guess other states - shows the requirement to indicate before leaving the roundabout. I'm really surprised that so many here seem to think indicating in these situations is a trivial matter and that those...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

Just so our American friends know what goes on in other countries (and I'm certainly not advocating these, but they are there, have to be negotiated and signalling is critical from one mini to the next): https://www.wired.com/2016/08/brilliant-sorcery-englands-7-circle-magic-roundabout/...
  14. Wol747

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

    >>Let’s stop making up issues that don’t exist.<< I don't know why I bother, because I would never buy a car with a yoke anyway. However, your post rather demonstrates the US-centric view of the world: mini roundabouts are common in most other countries and I can assure you that a 20 degree...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

    >>Being pilot you should know. If I take a turn I turn blinker me on BEFORE the turn. Not during. If I need wipers I do it before or after. If I need to make a callI do it before or after.<< Pilot or not if you are driving properly you often have to change indicators during turns: every time...

    installing EV charger apartment complex

I saw some figures recently which showed 55 fires per 1Bn miles ICE driven in the US compared with 5 per 1Bn driven by EVs. Not directly comparable for the charging scenario but worth mentioning to the Body Corporate. There's so much misinformation flying around. (As indeed might be my figures -...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

I think on the East coast the accent would be Noo Yoik?

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

That’s certainly a common cause of PBs, but many are not easily explained. They have definitely become less frequent this last few years - for example slamming on the brakes approaching an overbridge at the crest of the road isn’t the problem it often was.
  19. Wol747

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

But do the yoke replacements have stalks? That's the other reason the yoke is so unergonomic. (Is that a word? It gets flagged!)

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

Thanks - I missed the link and have downloaded the doc so will be informed next time!
  21. Wol747

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

You are of course correct: I should have made it clearer. What I meant to say is that generation capacity is one thing, delivery is another - and that sufficient storage to make the capacity actually usable is the critical thing.
  22. Wol747

    Dashcam failure

A program like Recuva (free) will recover most of the files on even a (fast) formatted disk. Works less well the more is written to the disk before using the program but in my experience you can get most files back. (Windows)

2013 Model S rear door opens by itself : I removed it and all cables/gear look fine. Need advice

Ah, the expense aggravation and time spent by having "cool" handles which address a non-existent problem.

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

The government is talking up putting $XXXm into EV charging infrastructure but I wonder if they are taking informed advice from those that know? (Rhetorical question, I suppose....) There's a huge difference between effectively subsidising individual households who can't or won't install home...
  25. Wol747

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

Of course, without equivalent storage capacity generation capacity isn’t a useful metric.

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Please don’t make the common mistake of equating the safety of “autopilot plus driver” with “autopilot”. they are two entirely different animals, although Tesla, without promoting it, would like everyone to do so.
  27. Wol747

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Sooner or later we are going to run out CPU power, and processing that sort of increase in camera output ain’t going to help.
  28. Wol747

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I have the feeling that although - obviously - the program is switched to RH driving many other things are still set up for the US which may be part of the problems.

    Model X - 12volt battery died

All very well, but many of us are well outside the (small) area the mobile rangers will operate!

Wireless charging in M3 makes phone very hot

A relatively new iPhone S gets too hot to hold just in use after 30 secs, when it shuts down. Abandoned it.
  32. Wol747

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I'm not ALLOWED to use any form of autopilot - Mrs too scared after many PBs, some of which were quite hard. Lane changing is very iffy: the change into the overtaking lane is usually OK but more of a "lunge" than I like, but returning to the original lane 50% 0f the time the car gets halfway...

Ultra-eco tire setup for my P100D.

Seems like a lot of hassle for a tiny difference in consumption!
  34. Wol747

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I think the thing that annoys me - and many others - is contained in one word: Hubris. It's not confine to Tesla: it appears to be the defining characteristic of so much of the IT world from "smart" TVs, most modern cars, so-called "artificial intelligence" and the rest. What I mean is that we...

    WH/mile?

FWIW my 2020 S does 264 on average over the last 2 years. 19" wheels and I don't show off (often...).
  36. Wol747

    Model X - 12volt battery died

I've been keeping an eye on Ohmmu for several years and intend to get one of theirs as soon as I get the first warning unless I get a warranty replacement.
  37. Wol747

Model S Refresh Failure -car died

FWIW a friend has an ICE VW which has been in the shop for nearly 12 weeks (!) and counting while they try to work out why it has multiple electrical issues - Tesla hasn't got a patent on them!
  38. Wol747

    Battery Drain

Understood. But obviously the drain is still there. You will see it if you are NOT plugged in since the HV >12v energy transfer will show as percentage or distance loss which may be translated into energy from the grid if plugged in (plus charger losses.)
  39. Wol747

    Alternatives to a tesla *gasp*

Far superior build, much quieter and nicer inside, but the range isn't up to much for the price.
  40. Wol747

    Battery Drain

Does anyone know what hysteresis there is with the HV battery when plugged in? I would guess that if there's a very small delta between the SOC and the "switch on charging" point the thing would fire up very often with the associated drain which would probably be greater than if there was a...

Buying a 2015 Model S 85 and have a few questions for the experts.

Get it in writing what the battery warranty means - IIRC Tesla have over the years increased the allowable degradation for the 8 year / XXX miles' claim. Not saying it's a problem, but if it's in writing from the original owner there's no argument.

    Buying advice

There's a very good YouTube site by R Symons - who is a dealer in EVs in the UK - and his latest one is all about two "old" Model Ss of around the vintage you are thinking about:

    Dashcam

BTW, after one of the recent updates I find the dashcam viewer takes a lot longer to fire up: it used to be just about instantaneous but now its 10 - 20 seconds.

    Condensation in tail lights

Here in Australia though we'd probably get a ranger as easy from Maryland! I believe there's only a handful on the continent and they don't service more than a tiny fraction of the country.

Refresh Model S XM Radio no audio?

Since the last update when I press a station on internet radio there's a loud "Pop" from the speakers but nothing else. sometimes repeating the selection will repeat the "pop" then the station comes good. BTW what IS "XM"?

Best Way to Get Rid of the Old Non Tesla Car

FWIW when I bought my S I obtained a trade in offer from Tesla but a week before collection put my 16 year old Honda CR-V on Gumtree at 0900, went shopping and returned to 27 replies 3 of which offered me more than I was asking. Called the first, no reply. Called the second and by 1500 he had...
