Ontario putting $91-Million toward electric vehicle chargers at rest stops, parks

Rob the reason for that is that this thread is in the Canadian forum and unfortunately in that country EV charging is based on time and not kWh delivered. Yes, it’s weird, and there are signs that it could change in the future but for now that’s the way it is. So when charging in Canada the EV...

Latest NSF video shows some B7 pressure testing and another igniter test (without actual ignition). Yesterday S24 was lifted onto the suborbital pad B stand. I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be one of the guys shown in these photos, perched at the edge of the stand with that...

    SpaceX F9 - Starlink Group 4-21 - SLC-40

I had the same impression. She seemed less engaged and animated than usual. I met her once at a Vandenburg launch years ago; really nice, high energy. But of course we all have our ups and downs. And I cannot recall another SpaceX launch livestream where the webcast host was not shown.

    SpaceX F9 - Starlink Group 4-21 - SLC-40

Well that was a nail biter. It took over a minute for SpaceX to confirm the booster landing. Video from the booster and ASOG cut out several seconds before touchdown and did not come back. And the livestream ended before deployment, which seems odd to me; it was only a few minutes away.

There are rows of TPS tiles missing from the seams where the main sections of the vehicle are welded together. I assume that is so that the seams can be inspected after pressurization cycles during testing and static fires, and then tiles will be added before launch. I also assume the lifting...

S24 has arrived at the launch site! Looks like it is getting ready for engine testing. And the vehicle is looking less like a prototype (which of course it still is) and more like a finished product. And are those Starlink antennas just below the SpaceX logo?

    Considering 2023 MX--The Yoke is a concern.

I find that hard to believe. It’s going to be challenging to sell a $100K car without letting prospective buyers take a test drive.

RocketLab - Small payload launch company

I’m unclear; isn’t there an independent comms link to the Lunar Photon kick stage so it is still controllable? So why does Beck say “It’s really down to comms,”? Very bad news for CAPSTONE If they can’t restore comms over the DNS.

Here is some of the speculation about those structures, posted at https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=54775.1720 With the caveat that I am most definitely not a rocket scientist, the location of those structures seems an odd place to put some kind of “thruster” as the exhaust...

    Western Canada Superchargers

As Supercharger users know, usage is highly variable; a site with a small number of stalls can be empty one minute and full the next minute. When that taxi is parked and not charging and then multiple cars show up wanting to charge, people get upset. And rightly so. Occupying a stall when not...

Charity bet #3: first Starship in orbit (redux)

By “landing burn” do you mean like an F9 booster where it is essentially vertical and over the target area and then the engines ignite just to null out the velocity? I give a near zero probability of that happening on the upcoming Starship mission. While I firmly believe that by the end of this...

Okay, with the understanding that you are just tossing out a WAG ;) I don’t understand how a pair of “smaller engines” could be part of the startup/restart process. Wiki Falcon Super Heavy/Starship - General Development Discussion

There is a reddit discussion at r/spacex of these photos and some have commented that the “dance floor” is missing at the base of Starship, revealing the structure of girders visible in the photo above. I guess they are referring to a partition that hides those girders and what is above them.

Wiki Falcon Super Heavy/Starship - General Development Discussion

You make good points. I do not know enough about orbital mechanics to make determinative statements, I can only speculate that for Starship to make a flight from Texas to near Hawaii it has to achieve orbital velocity and could therefore reach something around the 236km altitude at which SpaceX...

Wiki Falcon Super Heavy/Starship - General Development Discussion

If I recall correctly, the plan for the first Starship orbital flight — launching to the east, of course —- is to achieve orbital velocity and then de orbit over the western Pacific and land just northeast of the Hawaiian Islands. I suspect there would be enough time during that flight more than...

Yesterday SpaceX opened the cargo door (really more of a “slot”) on S24, hoisted up the “Starlink loader” container, and positioned it next to the door. Thanks for that correction. Tesla often provides L2 (J1172) chargers along with a Tesla HPC so I thought that might have been the case here. SpaceX F9 - SES-22 - SLC-40

Something I noticed about the webcast of this launch; from about T+00:30 to 02:25, during ascent and Max Q, they continuously showed the camera view looking down the booster. I don’t recall a previous launch where we saw that view during Max Q. Maybe that is now possible because they are using...

For sure. Really love the views we are now getting all the way through the booster landing sequence. Just one brief video dropout from the booster shortly after the entry burn. Heard back from Tesla, they confirm my car has the most current software version for its configuration and they won’t be coming out to look at it. They did not comment on my window issue. My car has the MCU2 upgrade, by the way. So I guess I will just live with the window issue.

The Auto Park function for parallel parking is good when it can identify a space. The problem is that it is not able to consistently detect the space you wish to park in. You can slowly drive by a parking space that you think looks suitable but the car does not identify it.
