    Switching from Audi...

Service is probably at its low right now. Tesla is selling a vast increase in cars, and the service network hasn't grown nearly as fast. Musk says he hopes to have 90% of service done the same day by this time next year. Currently, service is a 2 or 3 week wait on average, and not too good...

    OEM 12V Replacement - Fitting/hardware missing

I looked in the Tesla Parts Catalog. I believe it is the adapter below, which can be ordered from Tesla. Item 11 in the diagram is the cable, and the unidentified Item 11 below must be the adapter??? 11 ASY, CABLE, 12V+, MDLS, DUAL MOTOR 1032274-00-D 11 ADAPTER,POSITIVE...

    Switching from Audi...

My 2020 S Long Range has air suspension and 19" wheels, and even on the softest setting, it is rough. You add the larger wheels with less sidewall, and it should be even rougher. I have owned many fast cars, and my 2020 long range is faster than anything I have owned. I usually opt for the...

    Switching from Audi...

I came from an A8 to a 2020 S. I think with a performance model Tesla, you will have a rough ride, some wind noise, build quality may be a bit better than the 3, but don't expect too much. The A8 was much quieter. The Tesla has different qualities, though. Service is weak now, but should...

    FSD Beta

The regular FSD installed now on everyone's' car that paid for it is also Beta, as are auto wipers, and auto headlights -- for years now. Not getting FSD Beta does not mean you get a FSD that isn't Beta. It is all unfinished, and advertised as such. This is why I refer to my FSD Beta as FSD...

    Updates, updates & updates...

I think after they crippled some earlier cars and some refused updates, Tesla required a security update in 2020 that stated they would disable features if you didn't update. Earlier years probably had no reference to "mandatory" updates, but my 2020 Owner's Manual states: "Note: The software...

Refreshed Model S Longe Range - Real World Range Test?

Range alone is only one thing to consider. I believe Tesla today could package their current battery to last 600 miles in optimum conditions, but they must also factor in recharging and battery longevity. Making a battery that contains the most energy or most mileage or provides the best...

Refreshed Model S Longe Range - Real World Range Test?

What is a structured test? In winter, you may lose 25% of your "estimated range". Do you want optimum results in optimum conditions going optimum speed, etc? The EPA range is this estimate. EV cars may lose 5% capacity in the first year. Should the test be done after the first year? All...

"Speed limited to 90mph" and other issues and Tesla keeps pushing back repair appointments

It is possible that you have a corrupt entry for the speed limit stored in your driver profile. Perhaps next drive set the limit near your current speed, and test the limit. Then toggle the speed limit back off. This should reset this entry in your driver profile. Another test would be to...

Sirius Radio does not turn off sometimes after out of car

There is another thread that ended up to get service involved with no conclusive reason for this. One person said open and shut the door again stopped his radio. One person said the AC continued on. Maybe a seat sensor, or seat belt sensor? Something in the seat that makes the car think it...

    Sentry mode not recording

The Sentry icon is separate from the Dashcam icon. The Sentry icon is never a camera. Does the Dashcam Icon disappear?
  20. DerbyDave

    Updates, updates & updates...

There are many safety and maintenance updates included with the car updates. If you miss one of these, you may have some issues getting the warranty to cover something fixed in an update. Safety issues and recalls are generally done via an update as well.
  21. DerbyDave

    Sentry mode not recording

The camera icon is the Dashcam. The circle icon (lens) is the Sentry. Do you have an X over the Dashcam icon or the Sentry Icon? Do you have Sentry enabled both in the car configuration and in the APP configuration?

    scheduled charging

Whenever you plug the car in, it should and does go through some handshaking and continuity checks to make sure it will correctly charge the car at the scheduled times. Like I have said twice, it is not charging the car. I feel it is just making sure it is ready to charge at the scheduled...

Oily-liquid dripping from front center part of large battery pack under Tesla Model S

It sure looks oily for AC condensation. It also looks too oily for coolant, unless a drive unit or something with lubricant is leaking into the coolant. Need to find the source.

    scheduled charging

My experience is when you plug it in, it stops automatically after less than a minute, and it isn't charging, it is just low amperage power. Stopping the charging also works.

Have you set the Maximum Speed of your vehicle to 90 MPH? To enable Speed Limit Mode: 1. Ensure the vehicle is in Park. 2. Touch Controls > Safety & Security > Speed Limit Mode on the touchscreen or CONTROLS in your mobile app. 3. Select the maximum driving speed that you would like to limit...

Disable Phone Key - any downsides?

Yes, you can still disable auto-present door handles in the control panel. The car will wake up, however, with either the phone or the key getting within range. I put my key in the house on the way out, and pick it up when needed.

    Fsd beta question

Tesla is not very good at meeting stated implementation dates.
  33. DerbyDave

    Fsd beta question

There is a switch on FSD Beta to toggle it on or off. I have not explored the features lost or added, but if you bought FSD, you get smart summon with or without FSD Beta. I think you would lose all FSD functions and features if you cancelled FSD. You can just toggle off FSD Beta.

Tesla Model S - Auto turn around in driveway feature?

It is just a sequence of two "summons" command to navigate to a point. One point is to back up to a point in the "turn area", and the other to pull forward to the forward stopping position. All the summons rules for these 2 sequences to be executed remain as if you were executing them separately...

MCU2 Upgrade with FSD (already), what to expect?

Probably someone forgot to update your new equipment after they installed it. Maybe Tesla still thinks you are not upgraded. As you can see from my posts above, I thought no 2017 or earlier got FSD Beta, but evidently someone has -- like @sealbeach100d .

    Sentry mode not recording

I notice mine comes up with an image, but no menu in the upper left corner to select clips. I tapped on the screen a couple of times, and it changed but still the three bars menu was missing. I tapped some more and eventually the menu selection came up. I then had a hard time closing the...

    scheduled charging

When you have scheduled charging set for 9 pm, and do not have scheduled departure set, the car may look like it starts charging if you plug it in at 8 pm. It really is just supplying low power briefly, and will then shut off and wait until the scheduled time. If you look at the power draw...

Model S Aircon issue in hot weather

I don't know about the earlier Tesla MS, but since 2018 there is active cooling that uses the compressor and cools the coolant thru a chiller in that loop, which includes battery and drive units. I find the car prioritizes the battery over your comfort.

MCU2 Upgrade with FSD (already), what to expect?

No MS currently have a camera. I think Tesla is limiting FSD Beta to very few 2017, although no one really knows. Have you selected the opt-in to get it, and do you have the safety score running? These are requirements to even be in the running to maybe get FSD Beta. Musk has said he hopes to...

Is it ok to share the title and registration photo to a online buyer for auto loan?

I agree. If you want more security, ask the buyer who to contact at the bank, verify it is a bank, contact them with your concerns, and then send the images directly to them. That is very safe.

Charge port door on 2015 S opens randomly

Please make sure you are not opening the app occasionally and pressing the lightening bolt to check charging, as this opens up the port door. The app can also close the port door, but I think you must press lightening again to turn off charging info before closing the app for the door to close.
