    Model Y repair horror story

If that is the case every car company is short sighted given all of them are having problems with supplying repair parts, and there is zero indication they have placed priority for repair parts over parts for new cars.

    Model Y repair horror story

Not following your logic. They don't have enough parts to over both car sales and repairs, which means they have a supply shortage just like everyone else. No way any car company sacrifices new car sales to prioritize repair parts, as repair is not a main profit generator (nor does the stock...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

They are arguing the opposite, the ones that rely less on the grid needs to pay more money to maintain the grid for the times that they use it. Basically as long as you are connected to the grid, the more usage you offset, the more you have to pay (that's where the per kW AC measure comes in)...

Model 3 delivered with 75 foot-pounds lug-nut torque [Update: 75 ft lbs to loosen, not tighten]

With the standard lug wrenches that come with most cars, you literally are supposed to use your feet to stand on the flat end if necessary to loosen the nuts. Given they are about 10 inches long, that means to loosen 129 lb-ft, which you need 160+lbs on the other end, which pretty much means you...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Looks like Russia has no shortage of artillery shells. I have read about the rifling in the barrels of their artillery probably wearing out, which will reduce accuracy, but I guess they are making up for it in volume.

    Plugged tire

If the hole is on the thread (not near sidewalls) and isn't too big to plug, theoretically you can drive the full life of the tire as long as the plug holds. On my old car I've driven way longer than that on a plugged tire. However, that old car did not have a TPMS, so when I got lazy on...

    Custom Light Show isn’t Working

If you got a new one, that would be the reason. The port in the glovebox should still work however (for dashcam, music, or whatever). Note there was also a bug in recent updates that cause the usb drives to constantly unmount. The 2022.16 update was supposed to fix this. 2022.16.1.2 update is...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Besides from the point about the cell connection, I'm not sure you are correct on the remote control function either for Cruise. I think you are making a general assumption just because that is how Waymo operates, that it applies to all the autonomous vehicle companies, which is not necessarily...

    FSD is a fraud

It's acceptable because government agencies simply don't have enough personnel anyways (it's done the same way with FAA too, they do not have dedicated personnel to evaluate everything, that is why Boeing was able to do self certification). The other problem is that the government generally is...

    FSD is a fraud

Right, the FSD Beta testing with Tesla's limitations actually ended up far more safe than any of the doomsayers predicted. If there was really an immediate danger I have no doubt either CA or NHTSA would shut it down in a jiffy (especially with the step up in action with the current administration).

Cruise PR says they used both in the statement linked above. Depending on what the bug was however, it might affect remote retrieval too and make it not possible. The anonymous Cruise employee said the issue was such that it required manual retrieval though. Not enough details to tell either way.

The early L2 systems from major manufacturers were jarring too (ping pong between lanes) and it was suggested it keeps people more alert. But now most systems have been improved to smooth things out, so while there may be some truth to it, I'm not sure it's a major factor. Using cameras to...

Model 3 trunk beeping twice and stopping halfway?

As mentioned, it's both. One of the recent updates reduced the power of opening or increased the sensitivity to obstructions to the trunk (likely because there have been cases of it being damaged when when it is not properly aligned) which is why even with some resistance it stops. The 2022.16...

    CCS Adapter for North America

The first graph is not a power vs time graph, it's a power vs SOC graph. It's a bit confusing to cross reference the two due to the x-axis having different units. That said, up to 20% SOC V3 should be beating CCS according the first graph, but that doesn't seem to be reflected in the second...

Model 3 trunk beeping twice and stopping halfway?

Yeah, greasing the strut does help. Probably white lithium is the best one. Liquid based ones like WD-40 or Superlube oil seem to only work temporarily (guess it dries out). Issue was only intermittent for me regardless, so not as annoying as something that happened daily. I did just install the...

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

An A23 12V cell (or two in parallel just to be safe) also works and may be a better option as it takes up less space and can be stashed in the tow hook area. However the issues people talk about are error messages that pop up if using LFP for permanent solution as opposed to something like...

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

It's both, from the very thread you linked: "The PCS sits on top of the battery and controls AC and DC charging as well as supplying 12 VDC". There are aftermarket LFP batteries like Ohmmu, but they need to play the cat and mouse game in terms of a BMS that is able to fool Tesla's BMS into thinking the attached battery is a good condition 12V lead acid. You can't just easily plop in a generic LFP 12V battery and expect it to work...

I'm not sure I'm understanding correctly, but 8 ft to the side is pretty far way from the curb to be making a tight right/left turn. That would guarantee that while the car is doing the turn, that camera can't see the curb unless you turn really wide. And humans also can't see the curb while...
