    Tons 'o' errors

As a side note, you “Might” introduce the GPS rollover issue if you have old firmware in the GPS. The error shows a date that is about 19 or so years earlier. Since the power for the GPS is taken from that VMS connector, rebooting it might require you to flash your GPS with the correct...

    2.X battery capacity

I got a REFURB battery in Nov of 2018. It wasn't a "NEW" battery and the range is nowhere NEAR a new 2.0 or 3.0 battery.... The CAC started at 159 which is a new 2.0 battery pack... but dropped to 135 within a few months.... You mileage may very... just my experience on battery replacement...

. for the new fan you will have a dual connector setup wired in parallel to the new SINGLE FAN MOTOR in the replacement fan. You will need to remove these connectors on the fan side as EACH connector and upgrade the cable to 12g going to the PEM connector.

good morning... Sorry I just saw this. did you figure this out?The 4 pins from the connector on the pem are wired in parallel to the fan with dual connectors on the fan side to accommodate the 1.5 dual fan motor setup.

Not what you want to see on a Saturday night...

Interesting and Informative. I will add that my 2.5 (#1042) had an original battery with charge degradation due to sense lead failure on a brick. I think I got one of the LAST battery replacements available from Tesla last year ( Nov 2019). Just wanted to note my "supposed" newer model...

As far as raising the car. RinoRamps work great. Got them at homeDepot for 39.00 Plenty of room to work and test.

Think I need a new PEM Fan... Anything else to check?

You ALSO might want to check the TWO connectors on the underside next to the FAN. Just pull the diffuser rear underneath cover. 4 bolts and about 10 screws. Comes off easily. Mine were both fried causing 1144 errors On my 2.5 version. Replacing them with a better sized connectors...

How many Roadster Owners are Electrical Engineers ?

I'm a Georgia Tech BSEE and MIT MSEE and doing lots with Analog and VLSI design work back in the starting days of Compaq Computer. Deskpro 286/386 and Systempro where my projects. Do mostly Security and Cryptography now but still remember my EE theory... it certainly helps having an...

Think I need a new PEM Fan... Anything else to check?

A couple of side notes from my lessons learned replacing the connector and a few pics of the connectors new. The cheap crimpers from Amazon didnt really do that great of a job crimping, even after several tries. It just wasnt a tight clean crimp. I opted for the less expensive MOLEX crimper...

Think I need a new PEM Fan... Anything else to check?

Yes you certainly need the connector replaced it will only get worse with time and with more arcing as the gap gets wider with the fan turning on and off. The service LIFE of these MOLEX MLX150 connectors is only about 20 cycles (which is the times connected and unconnected) on BOTH the...

Think I need a new PEM Fan... Anything else to check?

I don’t remember the 6 pin socket being pushed in but def pin 1 of RHC34 pem fan socket was. The 6 pin one goes to the ESS heater and would not be causing your issue. Its def the PEM fan socket and connector here are a few more pics of the PEM CIC board. it’s a pain in the ass to get too...

Think I need a new PEM Fan... Anything else to check?

I actually just went thru this with my car. I dont know if I would BRIDGE those two together as if one is powered and the other isnt, it might cause an issue with the PEM. I ended up for now replacing the connectors. As @PV-EV noted, you need to pull the whole pem to replace the connector as...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

i actually did just that. Took a few hours to pull and open the pem. Get the CIC board out and replace the connector on the pem. Was a good learning experience. I can probably document it better if someone is looking to do it. Have lots of pics as I broke it down and put it back. Just...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

The "Roadster Circuits - 2010 LHD PDF" I have shows different color wires, Mine shows BLACK wires but the rear harness and your note shows brown wires, which is exactly what color my harness has. Based on the connector damage it looks like pin #1 is in use... maybe some of #2 as well as it...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

On the 1.5 there were TWO motors, One MOTOR FAN and one PEM FAN. On the 2.0/2.5 there is one motor driving both fans. So not sure which pins are actually in use. I know the fan is 12V based on the SPAL fan specs and based on the connector damage it looks like its using the MOTOR pins ( #1...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

Any suggestion from testing it at the RHC34 connector after it’s removed from PEM? I have to rewire the connector anyway so was just going to feed 12v to pins 2 and 4 and see if fan blows.. Ohm test as well? Just looking for suggestions before I actually have to crawl under car and test from...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

weird when I look at the schematics, the wire colors differ as well... I must have a different diagram then you do @MLAUTO . Looks Like Pins 1 and 3 go to some Motor Cooling fan and pins 2 and 4 go to PEM cooling fan. Colors are not what shows up under PEM. typical....

LOL welcome to the "GPS TIme Travel" family. I can send you the cable or we can meet 1/2 and do it.... its a fairly simple process with the VMS cable that @sncasner designed vs mine that had to pull the front tire as patch the GPS directly. Tesla I'm not sure if they are doing it now for no...

Date on the Roadster is wrong - trashing log files

Its Hit or Miss at the SC's on this. I had to EDUCATE the Houston NW SC about the GPS rollover issue, they kept wanting to replace other stuff, even the new replacement GPS unit sent from Tesla CA as a replacement had the older firmware. So based on the new unit being faulty, their response...

    ouch, roadster accident, video evidence

I can attest to Carl's work as well. I'll caution you on "body shops" that have Little to NO experience with Roadsters, When Carl got my damaged car, obviously someone had tried to fix it improperly before I owned it. Looks like they used the wrong glue to fuse some of the parts together...

    New Roadster owner

I concur... My 2.5 is like a Dyson Vacuum pulling up all kind of debris and road trash. LOTS of DUST and leaves in the PEM that needs to be cleaned out. My 1.5 never had that kind of issue. As also stated earlier, by taking off the PEM to clean, the FAN connector will become an issue as the...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Love the car and color.... however the R80 Battery pack charge screen at about 75% "ish" only shows 165 range.... seems LOW for that battery.... I extrapolate that out to about 220 range fully charged at best.. Still way low for a R80 pack with 4K miles on it. Wish someone can pull the CAC on...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Sudden loss of range and what to do now

I think the 156 CAC value is not valid and not a true CAC. I think it " POPS" to the high value as soon as the battery is switched, then learns what it actually is. Mine had a 157 or so after my battery replacement with a refurb. These are used sheets taken from other packs at Tesla and they...

    Updating 12V Battery

Its a fairly easy process to jack up the wheel and replace the battery. Takes about an hour depending on what condition the fasteners are in and how hard they are to get off. A few of mine needed to be replaced with SS ones as the old ones were rusted in. Still was about an hour process...

Sudden loss of range and what to do now

you can look at each bricks voltage and SOC level once you get a log generated. Any 4-8GB works fine. I got my 4GB one for the car ( actually came in a kit of 4 of them) off amazon. You can look at the ahr.log file in this compressed file. It shows each brick and their status. Mine when I...

Caution - Annual Service - Car power-down - GPS issue

Sounds like for some reason your VMS rebooted / reset which caused the GPS to power cycle. If you have one of the "faulty" GPS units, power cycling the VMS or an Annual can trigger the issue. Mine was an annual service that triggered If you VDS shows an older date in the 2000 range, mine at...
