    USB Device Malfunction

Just to clarify, there are several of us using a regular USB thumb drive that are experiencing this error. So the problem isn’t unique to those using hubs.

    USB Device Malfunction

@RecordGeek - my setup using a microSD card and USB reader was pretty rock solid also prior to the Dec 2020 update. Although I am not using the same USB reader as you recommended, I have tested its read/write performance on my desktop and found no issues.

    Model S REST API

*** SOLVED *** Things I learned: 1. There are multiple cookie values that are passed to the client in step 1. All cookie values must be set for subsequent requests. 2. It is helpful to have a retry loop on step 2 as you will often receive HTTP 403 for no apparent reason. 3. The cookies must be...

Anyone noticed an improvement regarding this issue with the latest maintenance release?

    Model S REST API

One thing that I found a bit puzzling is that you often have to retry step 2 multiple times in order to retrieve the code. I see @PCMc has an automatic retry loop that I’ll need to implement in my code. Anyone understand why Tesla’s API can‘t simply respond on the first try?

    Model S REST API

@PCMc would you mind sharing your Python code for steps 1-4? I’ve been looking at the source code for teslapy but that script is not very readable.

    Model S REST API

I'm using the above PHP code which has been updated for the new SSO auth scheme. It fails on Step 2 (obtain auth code). As far as I can tell, it correctly retrieves the "hidden" form inputs and cookie value, but a subsequent call to the /oauth2/v3/authorize endpoint returns HTTP 403 (forbidden)...

Not a fan of recent software changes

Exactly, I was referring to the screen visualization/map split. The visualization half is taking up considerably more space than it needs to. I hadn’t heard of any plan to make this user configurable. Is this an Elon tweet you are referring to? If so, I wouldn’t put much stock into it. I know...

Not a fan of recent software changes

I have two main gripes with the two most recent updates: 1. My dashcam has been broken since the Dec 2020 update. I constantly see the “USB malfunction” error message. Rebooting the center display causes this error to clear for the remainder of the drive, but it returns the next day. 2. The...

    USB Device Malfunction

I think you are correct because the only times I see this error are upon returning to the car after it’s been parked. If I reformat the drive it works fine for the entire duration of my drive. It’s only upon parking and then returning that the error appears. Seems that when the vehicle enters...

    USB Device Malfunction

Yep, that’s the odd part. My dash cam icon indicates that it is working correctly, yet this message still pops up telling me that the drive malfunctioned. Go figure.
  12. A

    USB Device Malfunction

Just saw this error for the first time yesterday. No hub, just USB drive. The dashcam icon still indicates that it is recording which is odd.

    Getting pissed with degredation

A better indication of actual degradation is supercharging performance. If you are noticing significantly steeper tapering then that is a good indication that you’re suffering significant capacity loss. With the early S vehicles we found that supercharging speed reduction was outpacing range...

Bluetooth setting “Sync Messages” disables itself

I’m experiencing a rather odd problem where every few weeks I have to open the Bluetooth settings in order to enable “sync messages” for my device. It’ll work great for another few weeks and then I notice that I’m no longer receiving messages on the center screen. Sure enough, I check the...

    Dashcam works, then doesn’t

I purchased a brand new 128 GB Sandisk microSD with a usb reader for dashcam use. My previous drive generated errors saying that it was too slow for dashcam. Below is the procedure I followed to setup the new dashcam media: 1. Formatted using rmprep and created TeslaCam folder. 2. Model 3...

    2020.16.2.1

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Interesting. So are you saying that the CAN message for nominal pack capacity does not match what is displayed in developer mode? If so, then this would seem to imply that we are not reading the right CAN message or it is not decoded properly.

Did 2020.12.x change HVAC recirculation behavior?

I was driving on the freeway yesterday and suddenly began to smell a strong skunk odor. I thought this odd, as my experience has always been that the 3 is well sealed. I always have my HVAC set to recirculate mode, but I double checked and confirmed this was the case. I remember that the Model...

Traffic light RED light recognition HW2.0 works?

@verygreen posted on Twitter that traffic light recognition does not require HW3 but HW3 is perhaps more reliable than previous HW.

2020.12.5.6: Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control

Does the software recognize/react to traffic lights if AP is disengaged? I’m thinking this should be a safety feature enabled on all vehicles.

How long before BT receiver powers down for phone key?

Facts are hard to come by because Tesla tends to be pretty tight lipped about the inner workings of their products. No, it is a reasonable assumption based on the evidence I’ve collected thus far. A cursory inspection of the syslog on the ICE would enable me to state with certainty whether my...

How long before BT receiver powers down for phone key?

Are you opening and closing doors or the trunk? If so, that would keep it awake. I just tried this myself. I left my phone nearby the car in the garage for 30 minutes. I then retrieved the phone and put it inside the house. I checked the car and it had not locked. Well, true, if you are...

How long before BT receiver powers down for phone key?

Are you talking about auto presenting handles on the S and X? The 3 doesn’t have this feature so it doesn’t need to know when you are approaching the car. It waits for you to press on a door handle. That’s why there is sometimes a slight delay between pressing the handle and it actually unlocking.

How long before BT receiver powers down for phone key?

I came back to my car yesterday to discover that it had been unlocked for several hours in a parking lot. Fortunately nothing had been taken. This seems to happen if you linger around the car for a few minutes instead of immediately walking away upon exiting. I suspect this is because the BT...

Battery Management System - What I Learned At Tesla Service Center

Well I was reading directly from the BMS so if couldn’t read the individual voltages then neither could the BMS. But yes, you are correct that I was only reading the voltages at the “brick” level. The cells that are in parallel necessarily must have the same or very close to the same voltage.

    Tesla coercing software updates!?!

I knew they were going to phase out the VPN eventually, but I thought all the 2019.x builds had support for Hermes (what Tesla calls websockets).

Battery Management System - What I Learned At Tesla Service Center

The only reason to go 10-90 is to recalibrate the capacity algo. The BMS does an excellent job of keeping the battery balanced. On my S, I used to always charge to 70% and the cells were always within 4-6 mV of each other.

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

It seems that every recent update takes a little range away. I have two LR RWD 3s. One is getting 317 at 100%, the other is only seeing 306. Interestingly, the one reporting less range is newer and has fewer miles on the odo.

    USB Too Slow -TeslaCam

Yeah, my experience mirrors this. It works in one car and not the other. But if it’s a software issue, I don’t understand how this could be the case since both my 3s are running the same firmware.
  30. A

    USB Too Slow -TeslaCam

One of my 3s has this same error. I bought a brand new 64 GB Sandisk drive and it continues to show the error during Sentry Mode. I’ve never had the error show up while driving. The odd thing about it is that I have the same model Sandisk drive in my other 3 and it’s been running smoothly since...

Is Tesla Service Bulletin 1816010 Proactive?

Yeah, if they just added screws then it must have been another service bulletin they were addressing. This particular bulletin requires complete replacement of the HV battery.
  36. A

Is Tesla Service Bulletin 1816010 Proactive?

I remember back when the Model S battery contactors we’re going bad, Tesla arranged service appointments to proactively replace them. I’m wondering if the same is true of the HV wire bond issue? Has Tesla contacted any owners regarding this to schedule HV battery replacement? Ref...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Tesla limits the maximum current draw when the pack is cold so you cannot draw full power. When in parallel mode, the cooling system will deliver wasted heat from the motor to the pack. So this could actually be an effective means of heating the pack quickly. Another option would be to set the...

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

The rated range displayed can certainly be affected by temperature. But it is definitely not affected by terrain or tempo as you suggest. This has been disproven a number of times.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

The difference between the early 85 A packs and subsequent B packs was not due to the cooling system. It was due to a different cell chemistry.

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

Let’s see if we can clear up some of the confusion. My primary car is a LR RWD and gets 291 at 90%. @brkaus reports that he is getting 260 at 90% in a LR 3. I’m not sure if his is RWD or AWD. If AWD, then the theoretical Max is 322 miles. Still even if comparing to this, 260 represents a 10%...

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

Well remember that they increased the range to 330. I think it was in one of the V9 updates. And given the fact that my LR still gets 291 at 90%, I think it’s safe to say that 260 at 90% is an 11% loss. We’ve both been on TMC long enough to know that 11% loss in less than a year is far from...

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

How do you figure 6%? More like 11% compared to my 3 that hasn’t lost a mile. I just charged it to 90% this weekend and it stopped at 291 miles. 260 miles is an 11% decline.

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

V10 Loss of Range: 5% Range Loss in 2019 Model 3 After Install of V10 Update

Hmm. That would concern me. Almost an 8% drop in less than a year. I would recommend trying to recalibrate by driving down to less than 10% and then charging to full and see if there’s any improvement.

    Corrective Steering Warning

Reviving this old thread to note that I had an unnecessary corrective steering event this morning. I reviewed the dash cam footage and there was a semi truck 2 lanes over from me. The car in the adjacent lane was 150 ft behind me. However, when I attempted to change to the adjacent lane, the...
