Interested in Utility Scale Renewables ? Delve into ERCOT

Hyperbole. Of course, they can always choose the CA route and just pay 20 - 40¢ per kWh year round. And before you guess that works out cheaper than the Texas poker game, consider that residential consumption is ~ 2x of California if not 3x. The underlying issue in Texas is horrible building...

Interested in Utility Scale Renewables ? Delve into ERCOT

Spot wholesale prices. If Texans learn to conserve during these events their system will work. Otherwise their rates will skyrocket or the distributors will throw up their hands and either declare BK or demand forced load management. I presume you think this is just more rapacious speculation...

    Solar PV News

I think it is pretty evident that the next wave of early adopters of home PV without net metering luxury are going to be those who are able to shift demand to match their local generation. People somewhat reflexively think of a home battery for the task but that is expensive for now. Time...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

It's simple. 'Supercharger' is a Tesla specific brand name, and those chargers ***only*** work with Tesla cars. It has nothing to do with how fast they are.

Call to Action: Colorado EV Charging Fees

Background Colorado is using its dieselgate funds to build out a DCFC network as part of the Governor's initiative to transition the state to EV ownership. Unfortunately, the typical charging costs at these DCFC are crazy, reaching as much as 95¢ a kWh when the charger is operating at 20 kW. It...

Go Fund Me for EV Charging in SE NM

Here is a synopsis for what is involved in setting up the project as a non-profit 501(c)(3). It does not look onerous or expensive. This will let people contribute tax free (or said another way, contribute pre-tax dollars.) For the next 2 years everybody can make pre-tax donations as part of...

Go Fund Me for EV Charging in SE NM

    Melted 14-50 Outlet

A couple of reasons, even though we have NEM now: 1. I expect NEM to go away; and even though the utilities are lying ass-hats, they are not completely wrong about NEM 2. I don't want my generation to count towards the state clean energy requirements

    Solar PV News

^^ Thanks, @SmartElectric , I spent some time viewing a Sol-ark webinar. My impression is its high cost is in part explained by its off-grid roots which not only included integration with PV, but integration for battery storage and ICE generator use. So it is at the same more than I want or...

What kind of electric heating ? What is your thermostat setting ? How is your home insulation and leakiness ? I ask these questions because you use a lot more energy for heating than my 2800 square foot home with a crappy envelope, even though your local climate is ~ 17F warmer in the winter.

Here is a fairly curious thought: A Tesla Model 3 LR AWD costs $50k and has an 80 kWh battery A Powerwall costs ~ $7000 and holds 13 kWh The car sans battery is an $8k device -- obviously not true, so It does point to the car being the cheapest venue for adding storage to cover the 5pm to 9am...

I've had similar thoughts but when I extrapolate out I end up with avoided cost as the value of DG/S to the grid. And I'm actually somewhat OK with that, so long as the social cost of carbon is considered.

Sell Model 3 for new Model 3?

How do you figure ? My recollection from Battery day is that increased Silicon is the magic that will increase range, not the form factor. IIRC I calculated ~ 20% increased range from the Silicon advancement, itself still a couple years away if the Tesla timeline runs smoothly.

Sell Model 3 for new Model 3?

Different labels are packages of different functions. The only way I can keep things straight is to ignore the label and list the functions. So far as I know, all current new Tesla cars come with lane keeping and TACC. Your listed 1 - 6 are optional, currently bundled as 'FSD'

Sell Model 3 for new Model 3?

This sums up my thoughts on the matter also. FWIW, $5k depreciation for a 2+ year old car sounds really low, but the taxes on the swap make it expensive

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

IIRC -- If I recall correctly This website talks about 16.5 kW AC charging in the Model S in the European version, I think for the 2019 model year. If that year and model was using 24 Amp chargers, the arithmetic** works out to 400*24*sqrt(3) = 16.6 kW for 3 phase. For the models that now use...

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

Not dedicated, but the large majority of forum members are in N. America The forum does have sub-sections, I think by country, that would be a more targeted audience for you. The technical problem you are running up against is that Tesla has standardized on 2 or 3 16 Amp chargers in a package...
  44. SageBrush

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

Are you sure ? I thought that the Model 3 supported either 7.68 kW (in the non LR models) and 11.52 kW in the LR model, architected as either 2 or 3, 16 Amp chargers. In the old days, I am under the impression that each charger was 24 Amps so two handled 48 Amps and 3 handled 72 Amps
  45. SageBrush

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

If I'm not mistaken, you are talking about 400 volt , 32 Amp, 3 phase EVSE configured for Type 2 connections. ABB makes such a device and calls it 'wallbox'
  46. SageBrush

Poll: Would you like Tesla to add a 22kW AC Charger option?

I imagine that you would get a sympathetic hearing from a European centric audience. To the vast majority of N. Americans you are advocating for extra cost and no benefit. I don't know if it is still true but a big part of the attraction of the Renault Zoe was 22 kW AC charging, so at least...
