200 miles review: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4

Yes and to amplify your point if you're on the MXM4 running at 45 PSI to squeeze every last drop of range, just hope you don't have to make a panic stop. That tire is greasy to begin with and at 45 PSI maximum deceleration is very poor - whatever you saved on electrons won't cover your...

Effect of wider tires on range

We don't have quite that set up but I have 265/30x20 (non Tesla spec PS4s) on the front and 275/30x20 on the rear (Tesla spec PS4s). It's very hard to separate out, if not impossible, the effects on aerodynamics from having a 20 inch wheel that is not particularly aero from the rolling...

It's hard to know what the hang up is. State bureaucracy in Massachusetts moves painfully slowly so there may be some permitting or certification issue holding up final live power connection.

Hit a pothole and got 2 flats on my Model 3 Performance

We've had multiple sets of forged rims on two performance model 3s in a 20-inch size. We've had them straightened but they've never been severely bent and therefore we've never had to replace them. They also seem to be more resistant to outright fracture compared to what I've seen described on...

Hit a pothole and got 2 flats on my Model 3 Performance

While the lack of sidewall on the OEM 20-in Performance Wheels is generally blamed for their vulnerability to impacts, and this is certainly a large part of it, the other dimension that doesn't get enough attention is that these OEM twenties are a cast and fairly brittle wheel. Get a forged...

    275/30R20's on a M3P?

Your best source on all this is a guy called The Mad Hungarian who is mostly on the other forum. Exceptionally knowledgeable, and will get back to you in a Flash. I consulted with him around my own setup where I knew I was going to be pushing the limits.

    275/30R20's on a M3P?

Sorry I'm not sure how you can get a 1 centimeter spacer onto that wheel? Again you keep trying to salvage a bad idea. Get a proper wheel with the proper offset. This is more than about who's right. This is also about safety. You are recommending things that are problematic from a safety...

    275/30R20's on a M3P?

I'm not sure how you can have a disagreement about something that is so clearly established and has been reported on by other members of the form. A 275/30 will not fit underneath the front steering knuckle on a Model 3 unless there is a change in offset. This means the stock 20 in uberturbine...

    275/30R20's on a M3P?

You might be able to get a shop to mount them but it would not be recommended and the stock wheel would not clear the front steering knuckle with those tires. The section width is almost 11 in so you're talking about 2 in of compression of the section width in a very low profile tire. And you...

    Switching Model 3P tires

Well you've changed your tune(sizes). You might go back and re-read your original post where you were talking about a 245/40- 20 on the front which as I said will not fit and has a significantly larger rolling diameter than a 255/35. Rolling diameter on the tire you originally talking about...

Obviously opinions and preferences very on this question a lot. I'm reminded every time this subject comes up of what the earlier generation Corvettes were like. They were described as "great numbers cars". Great acceleration and even lateral acceleration numbers but not much fun to drive. My...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

I'm curious when you say you were monitoring charge voltage how far back does your monitoring go? Because it appears that the too highcharge voltage (for BMS on most lithium iron phosphate) like 14.8 volts or something like that was pushed out late last year and maybe for the first month of...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

That's a truly strange design logic for such an expensive aftermarket part, especially in view of Tesla's inability to design a 12 volt system that doesn't go through OEM batteries at roughly twice the rate of most ICE vehicles. EarthX sells a battery with BMS and I believe it incorporates a 15...

Review of Two House Solar Installations - 12kW and 8 kW - in SW FL

If you have net metering you do not need a powerwall except for protection around outages. It does significantly lengthen your payback period. And in some sense it becomes a luxury item. If on the other hand you do not have net metering but have staggered rates with Prime Time rates being very...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

The real question is how long can you go between resets once you put the lithium ferric phosphate battery back in. If it's 4 months (which was the interval from getting version 2 with the module and doing a reset), I'm okay with that. Once a week obviously not acceptable
  21. dfwatt

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

A hard reset is only useful if you're getting alerts. Do you have any version of alert showing right now? And which alert if you have one?
  22. dfwatt

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

So if I'm understanding you properly you are suggesting that version 3 had more frequent battery failure errors then version 2? The real question is does version 3 accept a reset and then does the error go away? At least for a while:-)

Acceleration Boost vs Third Party Hacks

It's interesting in your apparent love of numbers that you haven't included any of the relevant other numbers that really matter: cost of ownership, cost of repairs, cost of maintenance, to say nothing of cost of any out of warranty engine work because obviously you've got no warranty on any of...

Acceleration Boost vs Third Party Hacks

Please do tell us how you can get a Ford Fusion Sport to over 525 horsepower because that's about what it would need in order to compete with an M3P. 285's or 295's for MYP at front and back/square set up

If you've got eight turns, that's the minimum recommended. So I would not recommend putting even just a five millimeter spacer on that. Keep in mind that the 5 mm 'surplus' the above poster is referencing exists only on cars with the performance thin rotor hat. On folks with aftermarket rotors...

Acceleration Boost vs Third Party Hacks

That speculation has been presented on the forums frequently since 2018. Seems like an obvious way to make some additional money without any downside. The problem, as lots of people have pointed out, is that when they changed the rear motor from 980 to 990 on a lot of the dual motor and rear...

    Lowering the Model 3

For sure coilovers are the way to go. It's hard to know whether your bounciness is caused by increasing recruitment of the bump stops which are in a sense super hard springs with very short travel. But the number of people who started out with lowering springs and then due to any number of...

Pull on incidence of replacing either lower compression bushing or front upper control arm (ball joint noise)

I'm assuming your not getting the 12 volt error code right now yes? If you do have that code popping up, as long as it will accept a reset you are never stranded. People get stranded only when the car has been showing the error for a while, meaning that the 12 volt subsystem is not getting...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

So I just heard from Sean. What I have is actually version 2 with an add-on module. He has offered to swap this out for version 4. But I still don't understand why these modifications that all ostensibly are aimed at accommodating higher charging voltages are all failing to clear firmware updates.

MPP compression rod and control arm bearings.

A manufacturer has to prove or at least have evidence other than simply their say so that a modification led to the failure that the customer is seeking to get fixed under warranty. There is no evidence the coilovers increase the load on that bushing. The bushing does not have inserts.

MPP compression rod and control arm bearings.

We've got an upcoming service appointment to have it replaced. I can't wait to have the service technician tell me that the reason for the bushing failure is the mountain pass coilover set.

MPP compression rod and control arm bearings.

I can validate that that compression rod bushing which is the one that is horizontally oriented on the curved lower compression arm is not very durable. The right front one failed on my wife's car in only forty thousand miles of pretty easy driving and no track time. Mountain Pass confirms that...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

Well my question is whether they corrected meaning going from 14.8/14.9 back to 14.5 but whether somehow someone bumped the voltage up back to 14.7 or above. It's unclear what Ohmmu's Max voltage is for version 3 (in other words what voltage they can tolerate before the BMS disconnects) even...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

Without having the ability to actually track voltages there's no way to know if any of the recent updates pushed the voltage above 14.5-14.6. There is reliable evidence that the original difficulties were triggered by firmware updates in late 2021 that went above those numbers. It does seem as...

    Longer term Ohmmu experiences?

We've got two issues but one is much more substantive. . Whether or not the OEM is AGM or not is significantly less relevant than the overwhelming evidence that Tesla has been messing around with charging voltage on the 12-volt subsystem, starting with firmware updates in late 2021. Lots of...
