FSD fails to detect children in the road

Let's hope the entire industry continues to improve, including Tesla. According to IIHS, 144 children were struck by cars in 2020. That number is dropping year after year, thankfully. But it still shows that AEB needs improvement. Computers and sensors are much faster than human reaction time...

My guess is that the combined stack will be released to FSD Beta users first for testing. Once testing for highway/freeway is completely, they'll release to the general users.

How do I opt-out of the FSD Beta?

Sounds like you had a terrible experience. Though I wonder why. Lane keeping, speed limit sign reading, changing lanes are all on vision even with radar. Radar was only used as a range-finder to the car in front of you for adaptive cruise control. The module sits in the front bumper, forward...

    FSD Beta 10.13

The braking isn't strong enough to engage brake lights. Taking your foot off the accelerator with full regen is definitely enough to engage the brake lights. Still weird to see the display showing cars in the distance even when there isn't a car there.

Could also be mapping for the area. Maps may not know there is a carpool lane and treats it like a standard lane.

How to Turn Off Carpool Lanes?

    FSD Beta 10.13

Also thinking about unprotected right turns too - if there is a car in the middle/left lane with their right-turn signal on, indicating they may move into the right lane, does the Tesla wait before turning right? If they don't change lanes, causing the Tesla to sit there with an empty lane -...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I'm excited for the future of AVs!!! What I'm nervous of is humans - we fear change. Remember the uproar when Uber disrupted the taxi industry? Robotaxis are going to disrupt taxis and gig-workers. I'd imagine the taxi companies (Yellow Cab, Checker, etc.) would start buying robotaxis and...

    FSD Beta 10.13

An excellent set of goals! The turn signal one is hard though - SOOOO many people turn their signals on and just forget them. If the Tesla sees a car with it's signals on and waits, assuming it will change lanes into the lane it wants to occupy, but it never changes lanes - does that count as...

Yet another, AP fatality under investigation

43,000 people died in car crashes in 2021 (source: NHTSA). There are just over 1 million Teslas in the US (source: carsalesbase), and just over 300,000 sold in 2021 (which all have AP). In 2021 there was 1 confirmed death on AP (source: tesladeaths). For the total number of miles driven on AP...

Yet another, AP fatality under investigation

*sigh* The amount of confirmation bias for negative leaning people on TMC is impressive. Bo said Tesla is terrible at writing code due to their collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking failures. All I did was show that this is an industry wide night-time problem that many of the...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I'm a total novice in this area, so I can't speak with authority. Based on reading Lance's article you're right, that Tesla used to use a bag of points for creating the BEV, but has since started migrating to using a transformer in the NN. From Lance's article in reference to using bags of...

Multiple dangerous Autopilot regressions observed after accepted to FSD Beta

I would recommend washing your car, then re-calibrate your cameras, then setup AP/NoA/FSD settings (calibration wipes them), and brake pedal reboot your car. See if it behaves better after that. Some people experience odd AP/FSD problems, but after a proper calibration find their situation...

    v10.12.2 aberant behavior today

That's not normal behavior. Try a brake pedal reboot. If that doesn't help, try a hard shutdown and reboot (requires disconnecting the 12v and main battery packs). If that doesn't work, open a service ticket and get it looked at.

    FSD automatically cleans clean windshield.

I'm very particular about my cleanings. After a wash, I spray the car, focusing on the cameras and windshield, with distilled water. Flushes off residue left by the wash, and leaves everything spot free.

Are you sure about that number? That would be 2.7TB of data a month. Many residential ISPs have data caps which would be destroyed by that amount. I'm not saying it doesn't upload, that just seems like a lot.

    FSD Beta 10.13

I agree with many of your points, but I think you're being overly pessimistic on how helpful FSD Beta testers are. If you were in a group of 100 dedicated testers, I would expect significant engagement with you. I envision that's how it is with internal testers, engineers, and employees at...

Autopilot nor Cruise will engage 50% or more of drives

I'm still not convinced it's a software issue with 2022.16.3. There are hundreds of thousands of Teslas on the road with basic AP, and if a software bug was causing that type of error, we'd have heard about it from a great many people. I'm thinking it's either a hardware issue (loose wiring...

Phantom Braking Needs to be Reported and Fixed

I was watching some videos on FSD and thinking about PBs on two lane undivided highways. If so, I wonder if it thinks...

From 55 mph to a complete stop! Worst phantom braking. FSD Beta 10.12.2 - Reproducible with 2 different Tesla’s

A little out of date on the mapping version. But that shouldn't cause a problem unless there is significant changes in the road structure. Let's check the visualization next time you have the opportunity to try it safely.

    FSD Beta 10.13

If you ask any highway patrol or police officer, they will tell you that any maneuver that is safe is fine. I'd even argue that if the Tesla pulls out and causes the other car to cautiously slow down (let off the gas), it's fine. The other driver slowed down for their own personal driving...

Wiki FSD’s Earliest Adopters Still Waiting

No, you should not be having crazy phantom braking on 10.12. The fact that you have heavy PBs, and errors engaging NoA means there is something else wrong. Either a camera problem, wiring issue, calibration issue, or something similar. Try recalibrating the cameras, and brake-pedal reboot of...

    FSD Beta 10.13

We don't have a camera angle that shows the ramp-up traffic. We can't see if there are cars that were in the left lane, saw the Telsa waiting in the median, and changed lanes to the #2 lane, but the Tesla saw them in the left lane and didn't think it was safe. I never want a situation where my...

2022.12.3.20 NH Trip with Unmarked Roads

I'm going to be curious about the rumored 10.13 handling wider, unmarked roads. My residential neighborhood streets are wide and unmarked. 10.12 tends to stay closer to the center of the road, leaning a little right. When a car is coming the other way, it shifts a little more right, but still...

    FSD Beta 10.12

I agree - mapping data should be used for navigation (the "Navigate on Autopilot" feature), but otherwise visual data should be used. There are a few problems that need to be worked out: 1) If GPS/mapping data shows that you are on a side street when you are on a freeway (either due to lane...

    Autonomous Car Progress

It's funny to see the automotive industry start to look like the computer industry 10-15 years ago. People would brag about their PC rig setup, with the RAM speed, CPU speed, PSU, GPU, etc. "I've got my gaming rig clocked at 6GHz, what about you?" "I'm at 5.5GHz, but who cares about 6GHz -...

Tesla to increase cost of FSD beta software beyond its $12,000 price tag

Did the screen show your solid blue line in the center of the lane shift to a curved line on the exit ramp? If it didn't, then it wasn't setup to take the exit. My car, while on AP/NoA, has the blue nav line curve off the freeway when I'm close to the exit, and the car shifts over to the exit...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Here's an interesting experience I had driving south on I-405 in Seal Beach area of California. There is major construction going on in the area, widening the freeway. As such, they've shifted the lanes to the right in certain areas. I was on Autopilot, at 75MPH. As the lanes shifted, I...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I've often thought that all cars need to communicate with each other. When you need to change lanes, your car sends signals to all other cars around you to make room and allow the change to occur smoothly. When you accelerate, cars around accelerate equally to prevent traffic waves that...
