Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra are quiet & smooth

Are you still liking the tires? Are they still quiet and smooth? How are they on concrete and over expand joints?

Now that it’s summer and you’ve had the tires for a while, how are they holding up? Still quiet? Still better over bumps? How’s the power consumption? Would you still recommend them?

100 AMP electrical service in home, should I install Wall Connector Gen3?

Residential breakers are 60C/75C rated, so the 90C rating is only useful for derating and cannot go above the 75C rating of 65A in the case of 6awg NMD90 or T90 or R90.

XPEL XR + and a blueish tinge

It’s not an issue. It’s the design. It is blueish. They also sell a black tint called XR black. It doesn’t have the same heat rejection properties, but looks more like what you’re expecting.

100 AMP electrical service in home, should I install Wall Connector Gen3?

Could be. That is done with 14, 12, and 10 awg cable up here.

100 AMP electrical service in home, should I install Wall Connector Gen3?

NMD90 in Canada is not the same as NM-B in The US. You can only use 75A on 90C circuits (which are not found in homes). So, while still adequate, you can run 65a on 75C circuits. I don’t know how Quebec works or even where in Canada the Op is from, but in Ontario we have the ESA that inspects...

Why does my extension cord strategy fail?

You need to have the special adapter as well. This is the one I have. https://www.evseadapters.com/products/nema-5-15p-5-20p-to-14-50r-120v-ev-adapter/

Why does my extension cord strategy fail?

You do need to also manually turn down the charge current in the car to 12A or less.
  11. M

Why does my extension cord strategy fail?

The problem is that Tesla uses the Line-Line on the 14-50 to get its power from 240V. When you try and use a regular 14-50 to 5-15 adapter, the 5-15 is powering the line-neutral. This leaves the Tesla adapter trying to draw power from the line-the same line, which is nothing. If you want to...

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

I would imagine a rivet nut stud could allow you to align the part easier without the tabs and just use a nut on top. Looking at McMaster-Carr, I don’t see any with studs longer than 1/2”. I’m going to try an M5 rivet nut, since that lends itself to the hole size in my car. Remember that...

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

Thanks for this. Are the two existing holes in the correct location to mount? If so, do you just need to enlarge the holes and install rivet nuts? I have the same setup as you with my 2020.

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

They told me no guarantees that it will fit, since it’s not listed for my car. I said that’s fine. I’ll accept the risk.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Yup, I used Silicone lubricant to fish it through. Make sure to go slowly as the foam snaps easily. I also used a thin hard plastic tube as the fishing tape. I’ve heard you can use weed wacker line as well.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

I used the Climaloc brand from Rona, but ya. Same stuff. I read on old Ford Pickup truck forums that the foam backer rods or even silicone foam cord is better than the vinyl tubing in cold weather climates. So, I gave it a try. They use it on old door seals that lose their seal.
  21. M

    Ear pain/Pressure help

I pulled out a piece of the foam that was in channel. It’s a foam tube. Looks like the EPDM foam tubing you see on McMaster-Carr. I decided to fish 3/8” foam backer rod through the rest of the seal and just tested (by ear) on a bad local road. The sound is gone. It sounds normal now. I also...

8 gauge wire implications with a Tesla Gen 3 Charger

I agree I can’t remember what point I was trying to make with that sentence. The rule doesn’t make any sense. It’s just the rule.

8 gauge wire implications with a Tesla Gen 3 Charger

There’s no arguing ESA Inspectors on this. These bulletins are to clarify new requirements and they specify a pot. The assumption on the breaker be correctly sized is still a risk. Breakers aren’t made to be used that way. Your protection is really only not changing the settings to something...

8 gauge wire implications with a Tesla Gen 3 Charger

I agree with you. I’ve just watched people fail ESA inspections because of it and wanted to inform someone before it happens.
  27. M

8 gauge wire implications with a Tesla Gen 3 Charger

ESA inspectors fail this because of the wifi circuit adjustment on the gen3. Anyone with a phone can change the circuit size and cause a problem. The gen2 had an internal pot adjustment that is mentioned in the Q and A section and is acceptable.

8 gauge wire implications with a Tesla Gen 3 Charger

You can’t run a 3rd gen Wall Connector on 8 awg in Ontario period. NM-B is a US wire. Canada is not in the US. Canada has NMD90 wiring, which can use the 75C ampacity tables if your breakers are 75C rated. Either run the wall connector on 6 awg on a 60A breaker or keep the mobile connector...

They have a bunch of different series of Siemens panels. You’ll have to match to whatever panel you have.

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

Not sure what type of Siemens panel you have (or even if they have options), but this website looks to have some. I just googled them, so no idea if they are legit. Also, if you’re stuck, could you find a 40A or 50A breaker to tie you over? You can set the Wall connector to smaller breaker...

    trunk light removal

The upper plastic on the hatch pulls off. The lower plastic has a couple clips hidden under the upper plastic and pull off. You can get to it under that. Why not just tape it when clamping?

Lets see some different aftermarket wheels

The tires are loud and stiff, so the ride isn’t better. They are winter tires, so they consume more range so to many factors, but I think they’re decent. The tires don’t feel as planted as the 19”, but I don’t know if that’s because they are winter tires or because of the size. No issues with...

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

Damn! That’s crazy. I would give those companies a call to see what they have. 6/2 is all you need, but it harder to find. Maybe you’ll get lucky with that.

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

I’m not familiar with prices these days as I know inflation is through the roof. I paid $8 a metre in 2020 for 6/3 NMD90.
  35. M

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

It is safe. Make sure you have the right connectors for it. $22 a metre is a lot. TECK90 is tough to bend. It is metal armour with a pvc shell around that. A quick google shows there’s a Westburne in Hamilton and also a CES (City Electric Supply).
  36. M

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

6/2 or 6/3 NMD90 will do the trick assuming you will be inside the garage wall. Have you tried electric supply shops like Aztec or CES or Westburne? TECK90 could be tough to work.

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

65A for 75C systems (NMD90). NM-B romex (in the USA) is only rated for 60C, hence the 55A limitation.
  38. M

Installing Gen 3 Charger myself, confused about 6/3 wire

6/2 or 6/3 NMD90 is rated for 65A in Canada on 75C terminals. NMD90 is commonly known as romex. I believe TECK90 is Canadian and since most of these forums are people from the US, you won’t find information useful for Ontario installs. Yes, you would want a 60A breaker for this to pull 48A...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

I went back and 3D printed stops that covered the whole stop to mimic what you did with them PVC. It took care of my issue completely. Both stops rip the paper in the paper test. Thanks for your efforts!

20 or 30 amp breaker for tesla wall charger

In Ontario, we can do a Peak Demand Ampacity calculation and add that value to the wall connector power (48A). If that ends up under the rating of your main, you’re good to go. Not sure if you have a rule like that where you live.

Do I need to tint the rear window?

I originally had 20% tint put over the rear windshield and it made it impossible to see out of in all but the brightest situations. I have since removed it. I currently have a Tesla sunshade over it, but I have rear view mirror camera, so I don’t know much much it blocks the view.

    MY: Fun to drive?

The Y is well balanced with a lot of weight down low. The “throttle” response is very fast and there is no gear shifting to be caught in the wrong gear mid corner. The steering is quick, but the turn radius is big. It also weighs 4,400 lbs. That’s more than two Miatas. Physics is physics. The...
