    APS bench testing

I figured the pinout of the APS on Roadsters 1.5 and able to bench test the outputs, I believe the 2.0 are somewhat the same. In theory one could make their own APS down the road if they become unobtainable.

    HVAC isolation fault

2.0 Roadster's HVAC units, the power status LED is at HV battery levels, and is super close to the frame of the car. Oversight for sure, as it can cause Isolation faults when you key on the car. Fix is either disconnect the LED, or relocate the LED and use light-pipe for proper HV clearance.

Roadster motor/inverter: which Tesla motor (post 2011) comes closest?

RMS was bought out by cascadiamotion.com, we took the roadster motor to their Dyno to have it tuned to their motor controller.

Help: VIN 729 Roadster not starting, VMD-VDS communication fault

That is super weird, busybox removing these files? Only way I can think of when these files are touched is doing a forced update over CAN (that gets interrupted). On b) no easy way to do that via the VDS, can you program OVMS in to telnet in (over CAN) to issue the VMS shutdown command?

Help: VIN 729 Roadster not starting, VMD-VDS communication fault

Were the wires just brittle over time or actually burnt brittle? Interesting none the less. It's not unheard of having older 2G baseband modem to go bad (i.e. has it's own eeprom/microcontroller/PMIC on it).

Help: VIN 729 Roadster not starting, VMD-VDS communication fault

Yes there is only 1 microswitch. when you put down the handle you should hear a slight click of the microswitch. Also when you first plug in the service disconnect do you hear a slight pop sound? It's the spark created from of the battery charging up the caps in the APS. Also you can open the...

Safely trickle charge a bricked pack in/out of car - solution

The car will balance when the car is off, and battery pack is near full, check service menu and look at balancing grid to see when it's balancing. If car can't self balance after a week or so, then likely bad cell in that brick.

Safely trickle charge a bricked pack in/out of car - solution

BMB has SMT fuses on each sense wire. Why is that brick out of balance?

    Roadsters and Fires

Yep anyone with common sense uses 2x4's to prevent the sheets from falling backwards. sad I don't them in use in the videos.

    Roadsters and Fires

Agreed, to me Weber HV videos are the gold standard in dealing with HV EV batteries.

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

If I'm seeing the picture that correctly I'm seeing 20v for the closest sheet.. that is 2.2v per brick/cell, they really should be monitoring every brick voltage as they charge, which they don't seem to be doing. That would place it beyond my comfort/safety levels inside an shop.

Help: VIN 729 Roadster not starting, VMD-VDS communication fault

There are two 12v power sources, but since you likely dont have APS enabled due to service disconnect switch (microswitch) is open... get new service disconnect first then try again.

    VMS Fflash replacement

Just FYI, if you have flash going out, you can pull the flash ic, dump it, then reflash to new one and then solder back in. From what I can tell the flash isn't written very often, mostly it's just logs, and it's filesystem i think uses wear-leveling.

    Has anyone done the Unthinkable?

Open inverter might not like the roadster's low inductance motor, though we did get the Rinehart motion PM250DZ working with it (with some custom tuning).

    UK-Based Expertise

Nice that's it out, and you have HV experience, you can take the front cover off, and you then can measure each sheet voltages (there is 11 of them). Once you have those numbers it should give you more information on what to do next.
  27. spaceballs

The only Battery Answer you will ever need! [Personal Opinion]

Wow lots of misinformation here... others will correct you. The BMS will handle a lot, but simply put the End user can control cycle count, SOC, and pack temp (somewhat i.e. garaged or not) that directly affects SOH of the battery.

The only Battery Answer you will ever need! [Personal Opinion]

If it were only so simple! Advanced users might want to extend battery cycle life by keeping it at a lower SOC over time.

    RIP #994

Wished this board has fuses on each trace, as there was one sheet that i know of that had shorted sense wires and caused all the fuses on it to pop (on my board). Glad I had them present else could have been more of a serious issue.

In-development: Inexpensive Custom BMS for Tesla Battery Modules

Had my intern design a BMS (runs on ESP32 "WeMos" board and "Link Node" board) that connects to the Model S modules and talks to the Tesla BMB's. Even talks to an phone app via bluetooth, if there enough interest I might release it.

    3.0 Battery Longevity

btw on a USB drive that's larger than 2 gigs, you can use windows "Disk Management" find your USB stick, delete all partitions on it. then create an partition of 1500MB, and select FAT file system. Roadster should be able to see it then.
