Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

By 'Stopped working', are you saying the buttons had worked with the new SCCM in the past and are all of a sudden not working? Or the buttons never worked with the new SCCM and have only worked with the old SCCM? It is possible the ribbon cable in the clock spring assembly was damaged in the...

Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

You will need the heated steering wheel, updated buttons, and the airbag assembly w/heater ecu built in (airbag itself is optional and you can reuse your current one). Tesla reused quite a bit of Mercedes Benz steering wheel components (as well as other interior parts), so the red wires were...

I can only help with airbag question: no need to test signals since you are not messing with the airbag wires. If you do get a blown airbag assembly, just reuse your airbag and the portion of wiring harness that's specifically for the airbag. The assembly harness is actually two separate wiring...

@Grutneskvink, the clockspring housing is the SCCM. Cannot get one without the other. The power for the heated wheel comes in on the LIN communication pin at the SCCM. And, to the best of my knowledge, no one has yet to keep the LIN buttons and have heated steering.

Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

Yes, I think E should work. You want to ensure both sets of buttons have the smaller connectors (4-pin and 3-pin) in addition to the larger 10-pin connector. You will also want the wire harness for them. Rev-E has the split buttons (4 distinct plastic buttons); while Rev-F and higher have the...

F6 is powered from the Accessory power rail, so relay must be closed before metering it. Sitting in the car, maybe have to press the brake pedal, will turn that rail on, check for 12v at the sccm plug (x160). If you have Steering Heat option enabled, then check for 12v at the 2-pin steering...

You could check for continuity from the red wire to the fuse in the frunk or in front of the center console in the driver footwell. Depends on car’s birthdate.

Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

@red_five, Switches will most likely need changing out. The new sccm does not support the LIN signal wire (pin 6). Easiest way to know is to look at the part numbers on your current switches. Let us know which version you have here. It's easy to pull the airbag assembly to find out...

Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

Last time I checked, the heated sccm was $220 and the heated steering wheel was $1070. No price on the heated airbag assembly because restricted part and I didn't ask, but you could and see what they say. Can't hurt to try. As for the letter/revision difference, it may not matter. You just...

Pre Dec 2014 S Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

I thought there was firmware in the sccm, not to mention the heater ecu, that needs to be current with the car's software version. So if he gets a used sccm or a new one from Tesla who knows what firmware is in it. I redeploy when adding any new hardware, just in case.

@airborne spoon , the two wires you are adding are power and ground for the heated wheel. You have to source them from wherever you can find the appropriate power and grounding points. I ran the power wire through the firewall to the fuse box with a mini-fuse tap. And I found ground inside the...

And you'll need the SCCM which supports the extra 2 wires/pins that go to the heater ecu. You can keep and reuse your existing airbag assembly and wiring (yellow connector of the 2498689 harness).

@TonyT , funny you mention that. I just checked my car's CID A/C controls and the graphics show the option for enabling the heated steering and heated rear seats even though I have rearseatheatersinstalled set to 0. Never even noticed. However, the mobile app only shows the option to turning...

If the only setting you are asking them to change is turn on steering heat, then no. There will be no impact to having that on without any of the components. However, I would be impressed if they enabled it for you, even if you had all the components installed. ymmv. It's too bad you didn't...

Interesting .. then maybe it's both. I pulled it from Tesla's service manual: 6. Perform a functional inspection of the heating feature. Use the touchscreen to turn the defrost on HI. Wait for 1 minute. Touch the door mirror glass to make sure that it is warmer than the ambient temperature...

No, you will have to convert to the adaptive cruise sccm. But since you don't have any of the other hardware for adaptive cruise, the system will still just do regular cruise. the follow distance knob will do nothing, but the rest of it works like normal.

I would be doing it myself for sure. Was asking the forum to find out where sensors 1,3,4,6 go. S3&4 are in the nose cone area which has the ridged "lip"; while S1&6 are at the fender edges where there are no markings. Was hoping someone here has done it and could share some measurements and...

@KSG-P85DL+, what do you mean by already having 'Subzero Package CW01'? The car came with it? You have the following heated items: rear seats, side mirrors, windshield wiper area, and wiper nozzles; but don't have heated steering wheel and want to add it? Or you have all the parts to add CW01?

Yes, a failing drive unit is about $6K to replace, not the end of the world, but not chump change either. The battery is still THE single most expensive thing on these cars, and for good reason. But if the 12v is what is keeping the contactors engaged, won't removing the jumper then lower the small battery back down below 12v which then disengages the HV contactors? 2012 Model S Signature Cars

@tccartier , what tool is used to pry this off? I can feel the split in the plastic, but it's so tight, don't want to push a screwdriver in there to mar the piece.
  45. REckard

Am I getting a new HV battery?

No, they are checking for free, which is good. But don't be surprised if they say it's normal wear and tear. Them having it as a line item doesn't mean it will get done. Just means they are planning for the worst and will decide and revise the invoice based on testing.
  46. REckard

Am I getting a new HV battery?

Could just be the pre-invoice they have you sign before they start work.
  47. REckard
