    MPP Coilover installation verification

“Bouncy” to me sounds like they could increase the rebound damping a bit. If you have a jack, you can lift the rear of the car (from the jack points) and turn the knobs toward the “+” a few clicks. But, the real best answer is to ask @MountainPass as they have been very responsive to my...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

The static height is pretty close to what MPP runs. In the race pics I posted, especially the top one, I am accelerating out of a corner and thus loading up that outside rear corner. But yes, as far as I understand the Comfort coils are slightly softer than stock.

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

I ran this setup in AutoX today! Having had no other experience with competition tires on the street, the 595RS-Pros are awesome. They aren’t too loud for the 3-hour round trip to the race location (I probably wouldn’t daily them, though), didn’t get greasy as they got hot, and let go very...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

19x9.5+22 with 275/35R19 . Front at ~3.2 degrees of camber and rear at ~2.4 degrees. The front sits about flush at my daily ~1.9 degrees of camber, but is about 10-12mm inside the fender at race camber. Note in the 2nd pic my thumb is against the middle of the tire’s sidewall to...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Fastest raw time of the day by over 1s (ahead of a turbo Miata), but 2nd in PAX behind a Ford Fiesta ST. I am very happy that the UP rear bar at full stiff provides a noticeable reduction in body roll but doesn’t change overall handling balance so significantly to require any of the...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I have been toying around with damper and rear UP bar settings. I am still refining before I report specific damper settings, but for daily street use I have been seeing positive results with rebound substantially stiffer than compression (~6-10 clicks stiffer), with the UP anti-sway bar on the...

    Model 3 Longe Range 255/45r19 or 235/40r19

The 255/45R19 is an error. That is almost an inch taller than will physically fit on the front axle. Most likely they meant 255/35R19, which would generally fit.

Effect of wider tires on range

100%. This was me trying to cool down after a day of Autocrossing, where I was either in the hot car or standing on the hot tarmac the entire time, and was heat-soaked to my bones. I just happened to check the energy chart and see >400wh/mI with the AC working real hard, so I decided to run a...

Effect of wider tires on range

Several others have reported the AC will draw 6-7kw as well when running hard. Here is a recent discussion: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/is-500-1300wh-mi-normal-in-vegas-heat.273475/#post-6904126
  14. Lindenwood

Effect of wider tires on range

For sure. It is just a function of 1) how efficient the body of these cars is that the AC makes up such a big portion of the power used even at speed 2) how much heat the roof glass radiates into the cabin. I have not carefully tested the difference, but I believe with my roof panels now...

Effect of wider tires on range

All anecdotes suggest on the order of 5-15% (about 20-40 fewer actual highway miles). Personally I think offset plays a bigger role than I have seen considered—specifically, going from a 1-inch tuck to flush probably adds a lot of turbulence around the wheel wells, beyond just an inch more...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

Painted the wheels black this week before a car show today! I drove 170 miles round trip for the event. Honestly these tires really aren’t that loud—I am not sure my wife will notice the whirr at typical 75-80mph highway speeds. That said, they really start singing above 100mph hahaha. That...

Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

Drove a little over an hour to support a community event put on by Thierry local car club! Choosing the best Wheel Offset for M3P

One note: if you intend to play with camber, the visual “offset” will change by a good 8-10mm at the top of the tire for every degree of camber. My 19x9.5 +22 with 275/35R19 are flush at ~2 degrees negative camber front and rear (Performance brakes). Additionally, I would peruse the Wheel...

Has Tesla Build quality improved on new Model 3s in 2022?

2% of people experience “poor build quality” and go online to complain about it. The rest of us are enjoying our cars.

    AC system driving me insane

This seems like a lot of self-induced stress…… *edit* To be 100% fair, I did start my own thread asking about the strain the battery relays experience closing every time I open the door to grab something out of the car. AND, even now knowing those relays are rated for 1 million cycles (I.e 50...

    Rear Coilover Set?

I would start by contacting maybe MPP and UP? How did you end up with only a front set? We’re they used? If so, maybe ask the seller where they are getting a new set of fronts? If they were new (from a dealer)…have you asked them?
  24. Lindenwood

    Model 3 Performance Spacers

My understanding was also that 18mm would clear the studs on Ubers, given most had measured 2mm of interference with 15mm spacers. I searched “18mm” and didn’t find anything but a single anecdote of someone saying 18mm wouldn’t fit, but no actual reports of interference. But yeah, 18mm wouldn’t...

EV6 GT gets track mode out of the box and yet the Y still doesn't....

Still, we seem to have forgotten how—despite watching Tesla do this only ~5 years ago—there is a HUGE difference between “look at this sweet new car we are going to start delivering next year that will crush the competition”…………and millions (or even hundreds of thousands) of actual happy customers.

How to deal with phantom braking?

I would consider it a win that any representative of Tesla even acknowledged that it is an issue and provided any sort of reassurance… This is literally the only thing I don’t like about the car.

EV6 GT gets track mode out of the box and yet the Y still doesn't....

I keep thinking of all the hype about the Porsche Taycan Turbo in 2019… right before the Plaid dropped in 2020. As mentioned, the Y is in its third year of mass production, and these competitors are only just starting to match specs while barely moving a few models out the door. By the time...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

The rear Performance bar is 19.6mm, and I measured the rest of the dimensions and used this site to calculate. I estimated wall thickness, but between .1” walls and fully solid the rate only change from about 90lb/ft to about 115lb/ft, so I just estimated it in the middle at around 100 lb/ft...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

After measuring the factory rear performance bar, I realized the UP bar is not nearly as significant a difference as I expected. What is advertised as a near-300% increase in bar spring rate actually refers only to the LR bar, whereas the factory Performance rear bar is only roughly ~10% softer...

Wireless charging essentially useless in the summer?

I use the wireless pad exclusively for my IPhone 13 Pro Max. I don’t experience any heat issues and I gain very roughly 30% battery per hour. It isn’t quick charging, but the battery life is so great on this phone it has always been more than enough.

Interesting! You use left-foot braking during autocross? Did you have a way to assess impact to battery temp or battery usage?

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Yeah, just bebopping around town the difference seems pretty stark! These are pretty quiet up to about 40, and volume seems to ramp up above 60ish, but given what I read about the RRs, the Pros do seem quieter. I have definitely run louder tires!

Yeah, this pic was immediately after I cut the 2x4s. Since then I have run bolts through the 2x4s to prevent them from splitting! I stopped using the hockey-pick lift discs once I fully understood that the lift points are the lowest point in the vehicle, and got used to identifying exactly...

Honestly I have been wrenching a while and have literally never seen or heard of a modern hydraulic Jack rapidly failing. 275/30R20's on a M3P?

Haha yeah I honestly was not upset at all. A couple minutes with sandpaper and a dab of the same paint that was already on it and it is unnoticeable. Btw, I’ve seen some folks running the Scroth 4-pt harness. I always understood harnesses to add some risk in street cars, especially when not paired with head-stabilizing equipment or not mounted to a shoulder-height bar behind the seat. At what point do the benefits of these harnesses (and...
