    Fun sound from drive unit

Our 2013 60kwh Model S with 70k miles has started making a fun sound when attempting to drive. Clearly the drive unit has failed. Tesla says they’ll cover it under the 8 year power train warranty. iCloud

What in the wild wild world of sports is this? Tesla LIDAR?

Agreed with the above. That I think was featured in an Electrek article about the camera setup for cyber truck - so they can get a jump on autopilot from the CT perspective.

DIY UV Treatment for Yellowed MCU Screen

I previously tried this technique with a box that held the light 9 inches from the screen for 12 hours. That very subtly faded parts of the yellow lines. So I made a smaller box that covers only about 1/4 of the screen, and positions the light about 2 inches above the screen. I left that running...

DIY UV Treatment for Yellowed MCU Screen

Mine was a full screen projection setup. Let it run for 10 hours and it only slightly cured part of the screen. I suspect the very low air temp had an effect. Will try closer in quadrants.

DIY UV Treatment for Yellowed MCU Screen

I’ve got my car baking right now. Based on the descriptions above, my box is likely too deep (didn’t see that info until after I started). I’m going to let it be for 12 hours or so, and see what happens.

    Acceptable Level of Underbody Damage?

That right most circle of damage appears to be near the battery. Batteries that are damaged can spontaneously combust. Out of an abundance of caution, I would drive or maybe even just have it flat bedded to the service center. I would not park it in side any buildings.

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

And I’m back. My out of warranty S now has this yellow border issue for the third time. They used the UV tool on my in warranty X a few months ago. That cost a lot of time, but zero dollars. Now I’m going to find out what the price is for out of warranty UV applications.

Tesla service and how they treat owners, really disappointed

I waited 9 months for my post delivery “owed items”. They did finally perform the work. But by the time they did it, I was just assuming it would never get done. they had to perform the work in my case because it was written in the bill of sale documents. They did try to wriggle out of it, but...

    Used Model X ludicrousness

Most states have some buyer protections about bait and switch around vehicles. Dealers usually have to honor the stated prices in their advertising or they can be sanctioned by the state. I’d assume (as a non-lawyer) that requirement includes the specifications of the vehicle. Though most...

Telsa really doesn't want people to come to their service center for service

The Fairfax, VA service center is also attempting to remove all human contact with service advisors. You can’t reach them by phone before or during service. You have to explain everything that’s wrong in 250 characters in the mobile app and hope they translate that correctly into the service...

    Longest time in service?

This is Tesla normal. My X was in the shop for a total of something like two months for that first 6 months. After that it’s been in the shop every three or 6 months for broken stuff. Many parts take a month or two to be ordered. I have a service appointment right now that was scheduled three...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Make an appointment with your service center. A few days before the appointment they will likely tell you that they don’t have a fix ready. Then file an arbitration request with NCDS. Tesla’s lawyer will then offer you a UV fix. Tell him it needs to be scheduled immediately, or the arbitration...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

If you can take a picture of the box - it might help future owners reproduce the device. Tesla says they’ll charge for it out of warranty. The box is likely just some UV lights and a heat sink. We’d need to know the wave length and intensity of the light to reproduce it.

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

No. Different part number reference to C. The pictured part number is the manufacturer's part number and revision. You're referencing Tesla's part number, which is 1084333-00-C. The prior tesla part number was 1015898-00-A. Those part numbers are not in the pictures. However, they do correspond...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

The UV tool breaking appears to be a common theme. I also had that experience. They emailed later and said they could use “the beta version” of the tool on my vehicle.
  17. W

Did they remove the ability to make a service appointment?

I see the schedule service option for my X which is under warranty. But not my S which is not under warranty. That seems to be the common theme above too.

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Tesla applied the UV fix to my X. No remaining yellow border. Now to see how long the effect lasts.

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Win or loose, Tesla pays for the cost of arbitration either way. The result is non-binding on you - unless you accept it or don't reply to the result. You can take Tesla to court after loosing. Tesla is minority incentivized to skip the arbitration - but the cost to them is negligible compared...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

This is the point of forced arbitration. It provides the manufacturer a way to avoid mass liability. Courts aren’t perfect, and engaging with the courts is expensive. Arbitration is relatively inexpensive. They win some and loose some - but they won’t loose huge sums of money all at once.

In other news, my scheduled UV fix now includes the shuddering half shafts fix. Two birds one stone?? Fingers crossed.

TeslaMate: Yet another self-hosted data logger for your Tesla

And it appears to be working well. My only suggestions are... 1) Include the docker-compose.yml file in the repo itself 2) Add emphasis to the environment variables, and perhaps remove the ones that don't really matter (db username, instance name, etc) - to leave to the new user only the ones...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

To help others in the future with responses to the Tesla lawyer... In response to any quotes from service centers, the Tesla lawyer always responds "they don't know everything, and only we at headquarters know the real truth”. In response to yellowing being a warranty issue, the Tesla lawyer...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

After losing my arbitration case, the Tesla lawyer has forwarded my info to the local service center. They've scheduled me for a UV repair in a week. So even if you loose, you'll get a UV repair attempt - but only when the tool is conveniently located in your area. During the arbitration, the...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Ironically, the denial decision I received started with the same sentence. “Customer proved there is a non-conformity”. But the arbiter went many steps further and concluded that the non-conformity wasn’t covered under the warranty. So it seems non-conformity is defined just as “something isn’t...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I lost my arbitration case. The arbiter said the warranty specifically calls out sunlight damage as not covered, and that I didn’t disprove that the display was damaged by sun light. I guess this is what Tesla is banking on. That there will be some winners and some losers. I’m either a...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

It’s your only guarantee to have this issue resolved for free in the future. Tesla is forcing this as good will, so that they can in the future refuse to provide a free fix. There’s no other reason they’d go through all this.
  32. W

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I didn't bring up the fact that others have had success using arbitration, because we don't know the stats from Tesla's side. They may have won more cases than we can prove that they lost. I havn't received the results of my arbitration case yet, but I felt like my argument in favor of...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I was thinking about the sunlight issue. My latest round of yellowing occurred while the vehicle was parked in an airport parking garage for 5 days in late October in Virginia. I put the car in "low power mode" (display, cell connection, driving). I believe that disabled the A/C while the car...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

After further reflection, it was weird that the arbiter didn’t ask many questions or even seem interested in the case. I think it’s probably because he’s heard all the info before. Which makes me wonder how many arbitration requests NCDS is fielding on this topic (there appear to be many arbiters).
  35. W

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I had my arbitration call today. Tesla admitted that current screen is susceptible to sunlight. Tesla hopes next generation screen does not have this issue. During spring 2019 , Tesla determined that the adhesive used to attach components was being affected by sun light, causes yellow band...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

That's not legal in some states. For example, in Texas and Alabama, in the past I've canceled extended and 3rd party warranties because I sold the car and preferred to keep the cash. Those states have rules requiring pro-rated cancelations.
  37. W

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

My case is on Monday. I’m going to stick to these points. 1) this is a warranty covered issue 2) that Tesla has the ability and obligation to fix this in a timely manner 3) that Tesla owes us a fix that in good faith lasts several years, as it is not reasonable to expect an LCD screen to...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

We do know the UV fix is not permanent, and more importantly Tesla know's it's not permanent. Ask any one of their tech's to review the internal wiki. It's been stated in this thread several times. Ends in C. Its the part that's going into production vehicles now, and that they are selling for...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

That's your opinion. The line in my car is not insignificant - it means I can't sell my car at the value I should receive for it, and Tesla is attempting not to cover it under warranty. You would not pay full price for my vehicle in it's current state. They are not offering me a UV fix with a...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

Bonnie, nothing wrong with what you did. But please take ownership that your words are being used against others. It would be helpful to us for you to take additional action, and simply also state the context in addition to what you've already posted.

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

Bonnie, Tesla also used your tweet in my arbitration case. I have been waiting for 6 months for a fix. I’ve been patient. The Tesla lawyer used your tweet to tell me to be more patient. The other problem is that, according to a Tesla tech, there’s an internal Tesla Wiki that states the UV fix...

Going on 4 weeks waiting on a part!

Parts delivery timelines have been an issue at Tesla for years. I’ve waited for over 3 months for parts (windshield, seat trim, center screen). I believe the issue is the system they use for parts ordering. They just loose track of orders. You have to follow up and remind them that you’re...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Feel free to quote me. I had this yellow screen issue addressed twice under warranty prior to 2019, in two separate vehicles. The Tesla lawyer also quoted Bonnie from Twitter telling everyone to "be patient, and wait for the UV fix".

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

I just received Tesla’s truly ridiculous response to my arbitration request. “The customer hasn’t presented his vehicle for a repair”. Astonishing. I’ve submitted documentation of requests for repair since February 2019. I even requested a service appointment a few days before I filed the...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Thanks - so it appears you won the arbitration, but then they tried to apply the UV solution. Is that correct? Can you provide some pictures of before and after? Also any tips on the arbitration hearing process? I have a hearing date coming up soon.

    Navigate on Autopilot issue

I’ve had similar issues. Car keeps changing lanes when it does not make sense. Or fights me about what lane to be in. I’ve stopped using NoA because I spend more time fighting it than receiving benefit. I’ve also had NoA try to turn into reverse direction HOV lanes with gates closed just a...

Anyone on the fence about ordering new X vs just waiting for refresh?

These forum responses are why Elon and Tesla claims not to have refreshes. If it was public knowledge that a major change (let’s call it a refresh) is in the works, sales of exiting cars would drop dramatically, forcing lower prices. So the company line has to be “there are no refreshes”. But...
