    Should i buy it. Model s 2019

Sounds like someone with an insane amount of money and a large car collection. For whatever reason, he/she/they are "downsizing".

I have looked at that route in the past and ended up never doing it. Keeping your speed under 50 the whole time would be really really long, and would likely annoy those behind you. Definitely not in the winter. that is a lot of uphill and likely up and down and curvy roads. My gut says no --...

wow you made it to some of my local ones that I haven't gotten to. But I stopped playing pretty much after 100. I did just go the Cupertino Steven's Creek as I needed something from Target. :p

    What is your plan B?

I know this is off topic, but so on these trips you are just driving driving and driving? And then sleeping for short periods in the car? are you exploring or going out for walks or anything?

    What is your plan B?

Yup, staying at home. California has banned short-term rentals -- hotels, homes etc.. Although yes one household temporarily staying in another location likely carries little risk. Although there may be 'safe exceptions' and truly 'essential travel' -- people in general should not be traveling.

    What is your plan B?

I agree that 'can happen' but it is not very common for folks to be car camping solo or just in their 'car group from the same household' -- especially during the winter. I've seen youtube videos of folks camping and rv - ing. Most of them are meeting up with others and in and out of each...

    What is your plan B?

Unfortunately it is useless to discuss things with someone who does not believe in facts. You might need to do some real research on what you believe is true or not. I'm ending this discussion.

    What is your plan B?

San Francisco (the city itself) has and still has the lowest COVID rates and deaths in the nation. Folks are for the most part are following the rules.

Supercharger - El Portal, CA (location speculation, permit not found)

I am hopeful that this one will happen. This will ease the difficulty with Yosemite particularly if you go up to Tioga and over to 395. Tiny little Lee Vining has a charger now but not a supercharger. My older 85 is down to 83% of its battery, so the more superchargers the merrier.

Yreka will be great offering flexibility going up I5 El Portal and Mariposa! Those will help with Yosemite flexibility too

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

I agree, I thought this article was not well served. What is the point other than to scare away the general public? It would be one thing if the Washington Post talked about electric cars regularly and this was one of 50 articles.

    Latest Rivian news

I want something for doing long road trips that are comfortable for boon docking. Don't expect to use 4WD but unpaved roads. Want to be able to carry paddle board, bike and sleep in the vehicle. -- not at the same time -- Having some storage, refrigerator, sink etc... is nice but not a...

    Latest Rivian news

I guess for me I took the EV charging part as just newbies that were too lazy to do basic research. It was kind of fun watching a pre-production car. The drama is a bit dull generally, and the sometimes silly antics isn't very interesting. It would have been more interesting if they...

I've enjoyed watching this series and it ends this week. Its not a great road trip story but pretty good. The electric motorcycles are more highlighted than the Rivians. Sadly neither the Rivian or the Cybertruck are right for my needs. I want something at a minimum that fits in the garage...

Do you need fire suppression for 3x Powerwalls in Northern California?

Having worked on fire issues for the last year, I do know that fire departments are careful with batteries. Having the fire department approve a location for powerwalls and have a few limits on their location is entirely realistic and cautious. It is not that they are particularly dangerous...

Sorry to post this mid thread but I couldn't quite figure out from scrolling exactly what the summary is here? I don't supercharge much, so I have no clue on the charging rate has been in 2020. I only topped off my battery for 10-15 minutes during the pandemic at a supercharger or two. I did...

I was so hoping the Cybertruck would be a good vehicle for this, but I don't see that myself.... I want a vehicle that has the space all inside with a decent interior height. I am seriously considering an ICE vehicle for these kinds of trips. And unfortunately likely to buy one in the next...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

I just got a second response for my solar. They can likely use it. Sounds like the non-profit will avoid their warranty issues by using it on their own building. The longer haul is trying to figure out how to replace the gas boiler with something electrical.... working on that slowly....will...

Cancelled Y Reservation for S. Any disadvantages over MY?

Not a Youtuber for Tesla at least... but I did supercharger tests back in the day, they are a lot of work! Charge-off 90kW vs. 120kW it is sad that it is hard to find this stuff with google prioritizing newer information so much.

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Official nice response to why non-profits don't want old solar systems "What I learned from my team is that right now we cannot accept the equipment because there have been challenges in the past from donations, e.g. liabilities, designs, production. We also offer equipment warranties for all...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

The whole house has radiant heating already installed. It is great. You can really keep the thermostat about 5 degrees lower than with forced air. And also fine tune the heating requirements to each room a lot better than forced air. The only disadvantage I have experienced is that it takes...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Well unfortunately there is no one that can install a heat pump for a radiant floor system. I tried 4 years ago when I replaced the water tank with a boiler (that is supposedly going to last 25 years). Still 4 years later not available. "We get a lot of requests for that but no one in the Bay...

Its hard because I can't get calls or emails back from various contractors. I don't want to find yet another 3rd party, then parallel two systems. Then later down the road want to add more panels and golly gee have 3 systems in parallel. The one person who did return my email said that turning hot water into an electric version will cost a lot more monthly. So that...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Can't "add on" ... or can't find someone who will merge two systems. According to Tesla at least "Unfortunately Tesla solar panels cannot be added to any third party solar system, you can however add more Tesla solar panels to an already installed Tesla solar system."

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

When the house was built the goal was to go as green as possible. But unfortunately at the design time, a lot of this stuff was not mainstream. Even during repairs or replacements I get a lot of funny looks just asking the questions. And I live in Silicon Valley! Even now I'm having a tough...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Okay. So I should replace: 1. The boiler with a heat pump (boiler is very young in its life span) 2. The water heater with an heat pump water heater (this has not been replaced so viable). 3. Add a ton of solar panels 4. Add a couple of power walls The powerwall situation won't change...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

So I got some good numbers on gas usage a year - much easier than solar numbers. Its almost exactly 1,000 Therms per year About 1/3 is for the water heater 1,000 therms is basically 30,000 kWh At a minimum that would be adding on a 15.12kW system for $27,750 without the powerwalls...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Okay, so I'm looking into that now. it was not that long ago I replaced my furnace. Gosh this addition though would completely change the solar equation. How big is your solar system to support a heat pump?
  43. Owner

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

There are automatic shut off valves for natural gas lines here in CA. Your insurance company gives you discounts for those. The problem to cut the natural gas is home heating. Even if it is pretty temperate here, we have big swings day to night all year (unlike other parts of the country)...

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

I would want a natural gas generator

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

This is very helpful. I'm now exploring the tiny solar and one powerwall option. Especially if it is an add on to my current solar.
  46. Owner

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Did you make this table yourself? What could be interesting is *if they can* add a small solar and 1 powerwall. That might be worth spending more money if I can keep the old solar working with it together. Or compare to the price of a generator....
  47. Owner

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

I looked at that. Not a good solution. Inverter is at far end of the garage. Would have to snake power to refrigerator. Would be really difficult to use with multiple devices over a large house. Might be a good solution if you had say 1,000 square feet.
  48. Owner

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Okay, yes I did not include installation cost and permit fees. The marketing is very deceptive when you play around with the options it never mentions this! Not even in the fine print. I had just assumed installation and permit fees were included. Now I'm thinking of looking at a generator.

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Perfect, except I do have a Model S and have no plans on replacing it anytime soon. Hopefully not too far away for this feature to be added to the S. does the app tell you that the grid is down? PG&E sends alerts sometimes - yes sometimes.

    Powerwall for Planned Power Outages

Sorry, I don't mean to frustrate you! I much appreciate your input. I do understand what you are trying to say as it is based upon consumption. If there is zero consumption, all the powerwalls can stay filled and overflowing as time goes on regardless of the size of the solar panels. so if...
