    MCU1 + FSD/HW3 + Tegra replacement performance

This is a pretty old post. I've since upgraded mine to an MCU2, so it's moot at this point. And yes, iHeartRadio is still in the works from what I understand...

All FSD/HW3 + MCU1 cars record broken dashcam video?

Those were my videos. FWIW, I can confirm that once I upgraded my MCU1 to an MCU2 (got tired of the crappy performance) those issues went away.

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

That's where I'm sitting right now. Installed 2 weeks ago, but have not yet paid. Oddly enough, I cannot even pay it when I log in - still has me on a couple steps back. They text me every so often to pay, and I've texted them back with no response. Oh well... I'm in no rush if they're in...

    FSD Frustration

"Currently" was at the time of the AI event. We are now, what, 4 weeks beyond that point? I agree, training is not directly on the car hardware, but the car hardware is NOW flagging events and transmitting that back to the mothership. Video may also be included. The processing is then done...

    FSD Frustration

My suspicion is that we are training the NN's right now. The higher the safety score, the more weight they give to the training. From there, they are also identifying potential issues like that jackalope that cuts you off and you slam on the brakes (again, tagged and training the NN on the...

MP2 or Rhythm or ? [what texas power provider did you choose?]

I just looked at Octopus, and doesn't seem to be a great deal. Best I saw was .12/kwh plus a monthly fee. Personally, I am entertaining the idea of switching to one of the free night plans (without the net metering) and then run off the solar and powerwall during the day, and then grid at...

    Amazon Music "coming soon"?

@verygreen reported a while back (last summer or fall?) that they had backend development for several different new music sources - iHeart, etc. It was the same time they put in the on/off switches for each source... like they were planning to allow you to add many more and then select which...

Very slow performance on Theater apps

Ask how that worked out for MCU1 owners who were force-upgraded to v9 and above.... Trust me, I remember a time when the MCU1 was faster than an MCU2 is today.

What's your predicted loyalty to Tesla whenever replacing current car?

Just the words "So, what kind of payment are we looking for today so I know which cars to show you!" or "What can I do to get you into a car today?" are enough to remind me how much I f***ing hate dealers. It's kill or be killed when walking into a car dealership.

What's your predicted loyalty to Tesla whenever replacing current car?

Pretty much where I'm at. I don't want to feel like I just threw away the FSD money I spent on both of our Teslas. I'd upgrade either my S or my wife's 3 tomorrow if I could transfer it. Until a better vehicle from a different manufacturer comes out, I can't see myself switching to a...

    eMMC recall reimbursement

The crazy part is that build is over 6 months old now.

    eMMC recall reimbursement

I'm pretty sure that @verygreen recently confirmed on Twitter that the MCU1 is basically security releases only now anyway. Not sure how he would have any insight into that, but perhaps he saw some type of indication above and beyond their track record over the past year.
  13. ahkahn

    eMMC recall reimbursement

Funny - I registered the first day the opened it up back in March? I believe it was. Anyway, I received the confirmation email today saying that they had approved the repair reimbursement and literally also today received the check in the mail. All good! thank you, Tesla! :)

    March, 2017 to be exact.

Another front suspension control arm failure

Sorry guys that I hadn't responded sooner. I did just file an NHTSA. My Model S is a 2017 with 88,000 miles on it.
  16. ahkahn

Another front suspension control arm failure

Add mine to the list. Snapped driver side control arm while backing out of a parking spot at Target. $1000 and a tow later and I should be able to pick it up at the service center. They’re replacing both and aligning.

ISO/WTB Texas Tesla! Model 3 Long Range AWD w/ FSD Enabled

I have a 2018 P3 w/FSD, red. 46,000 miles. Not really for sale, but would entertain an offer. I'm in The Woodlands, TX.

I used to use that on my plane and it's good stuff.

Tesla now repairing MCU1 with a new Tegra card for less than $500

Clearly you're not aware of the Volkswagen RNS-510 debacle..... My wife had that in her old car and it was worse than an MCU1.... totally unbearable.
  22. ahkahn

    MCU1 + FSD/HW3 + Tegra replacement performance

There is indication of them allowing others streaming services in the future, but no clue if iHeart would be one, or when it would happen.
  23. ahkahn

    MCU1 + FSD/HW3 + Tegra replacement performance

I've had it done. MCU1+FSD Computer+Tegra emmc replacement. Read my comments around... but basically in a nutshell: - Much better than when the eMMC was failing - Does not crash, freeze, or stutter - Not nearly as good as MCU2 So, MCU2 > MCU1 w/replaced eMMC > MCU1 with failing eMMC If I...

Problems after FSD hardware upgrade from AP 2.0

If your MCU1 is crashing, you need to replace your eMMC. It won't crash the MCU1, it will only run slower.

    2020 Model Y Performance 465 miles IL Blue/Black

I pulled mine and did it by sending it out to @TonyT in California. If you need some help, I'm happy to help with the removal or reinstallation. As with anything, it's not that difficult if you have the right tools.

Problems after FSD hardware upgrade from AP 2.0

Yes. Just works as the OP described.... slow and laggy.
  28. ahkahn

    2020 Model Y Performance 465 miles IL Blue/Black

Yeah, I have bought a car from them (my wife's Model 3). Some deals are decent (not excellent) and some are flat bad. The Model Y they were trying to push was way overpriced, but they were trying to get the impulse buy, so I get it. My only issue with him was that he wasn't disclosing that he...

HW 3.0 Upgrade from 2.0 - very very pleased

Sounds like your MCU eMMC is on the fritz. For some reason the FSD computer seems to tax the MCU reads/writes substantially more, or just enough to really make the UI glitch out. I upgraded my eMMC and it's running decent again.

Body panel misalignment after having headlight replaced

I've replaced the headlights before. The panel gap is caused by the need for having to remove the front bumper (not completely, but they do need to drop it). So I totally understand the gap between the bumper and the quarter panel in front of the wheel, that's probably a clip issue that either...

    944mb uploaded by Tesla

Yeah, it was just interesting to me because I've had the AP3 computer since late May, 2 Teslas with AP3, and have never seen an upload anything close to this. Must have just hit the neural net lottery....
  33. ahkahn

    944mb uploaded by Tesla

So here is an odd one. Car was in the garage minding it’s own business, but uploading like crazy. MCU1 w/eMMC upgrade, AP3. Any thoughts on what it was doing?!?

13,600 miles and need new tires?

My stock tires got about 27,000 miles, if I remember correctly. I changed them out to the Pirelli Cinturato P7's and I've got at around 45,000 on them, and still have plenty left. I'll bet I get 60k on them.

Tesla App and iOS 14 Beta?

Works fine for me, as well. Widget looks the same to me.
  36. ahkahn

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

My experience was exactly the same. The AP3/FSD Computer upgrade really did mine in. My eMMC wasn't even that far gone - only about 40% (1132 cycles) done. I suspect there must be much more disk access with the FSD Computer once it's been installed (maps?) The good news is that now that I've...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

I'll chime in here now. @TonyT did an amazing job. My MCU1 was showing all of the tell-tale signs - it was crashing periodically, would take 10-15 minutes to reboot, super slow and completely unbearable, music would skip or stutter, etc. After @TonyT redid my eMMC, here is the final...

Thinking about switching to a Performance 3

My wife has a P3, and I have the 90D S. I really struggle with the two - I love my S for the size and comfort, but I love her 3 Performance for the agility, handling, and MCU2. Honestly, it's a tough decision. They're both great cars, and I find myself trying to limit my exposure to the 3 due...

I was happy Tesla owner for only 3 hours

My opinion isn't always against wrecked cars... Especially if they come with a 4 year/50k warranty, and the price reflects the wreck (~$5,000 less).

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

OK, following up on this post. Tony was able to get the audio issue fixed up and I was able to put the car back together. Now that everything is up and running, and seems like everything is running even better. The more I play with it, the more I am happy with it. I think my first impression...
  42. ahkahn

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Correct. It is aftermarket, but not supported by Tesla. Mostly they won't notice if it's done, however there is some word that they do detect and flag it in their system. I'd imagine if the car is still under warranty, the MCU dies, and you've replaced the eMMC, they would not stand behind...

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

Once all of my MCU issues get worked through (hopefully tonight) I will take a video of the MCU in action with the new eMMC so that you all can decide for yourselves.
  44. ahkahn

    AP2 (HW2) to HW3 (no MCU2 upgrade)

If you leave the MCU unplugged, it will run the 12v battery out. You'll need a battery tender under those circumstances. The alternative is to plug the MCU back in (without the Tegra board installed) and the battery will stay in good shape. I had mine out twice - the first time I did NOT put...
