Battery capacity for Tesla X not enough

That “high usage station” message does not mean anything. It’s auto populated based on location history, but you can easily ignore it and manually reset your charge limit to 100%. The message only acts as a courtesy heads up. Charging a cold battery is always tough. Try plug-in before your...

Can anyone help me understand Ludicrous mode on a Model X? I am looking at buying a P100DL 2018 '68 plate in the UK and I currently have a Model 3 Per

I don’t think Model X with Ludicrous is comparable to Model 3 performance. With the X’s size and weight, you will always feel the half ton when you are not driving straight. It’s a lot less agile/maneuverable than the 3. The only thing comparable is the straight line acceleration, in which X...

    Yoke Wheel in Action

unlike popular opinion, I still trust Elon and Tesla to not mess up the basic driving element. I think the yoke steeling wheel may not be as bad as people thought. Just look at this video on how the driver effortlessly drive the cybertruck with the yoke steering wheel, making one-handed...

Major 2021 Model X refresh pending [Update: Unveiled January 27, 2021]

For starters, 360 is ”estimated” which means the official EPA number could very well be higher. Then considering the increased hp, not surprising if the range actually decreased, just like gas cars with V8 usually have lower mpg than V6 version.

Major 2021 Model X refresh pending [Update: Unveiled January 27, 2021]

Fair points but the door handle likely worked flawlessly for Elon in California, and the rain sensor did get (software) improvement last year which means he know it got issues. I am sure if the door freezes on Elon he wouldn’t have raved it on Twitter. My point remains that since gear selection...

Major 2021 Model X refresh pending [Update: Unveiled January 27, 2021]

Per Elon: “No more stalks. Car guesses drive direction based on what obstacles it sees, context & nav map. You can override on touchscreen.” “After you drive without using a PRND stalk/stick for a few days, it gets very annoying to go back & use a shifter!” I trust that Elon is not an idiot. If...

Major 2021 Model X refresh pending [Update: Unveiled January 27, 2021]

That could very well be the reason, but still I can’t believe people are upset for losing 11-mile rated range, which is like 7-mile real world range. With the support of 250kw SC, I don’t think anyone would be okay with 371-mile raven but being stranded on the side of the road with the new...

Worth it to order a new X after Raven update?

If you watch Netflix on Model X you would wish the screen could rotate. The whole theater experience is 100 times better on the model 3. I can’t help but feel a bit of left out by Elon, as v10 is really designed for model 3. Model 3 is Tesla’s focus now, and Model Y will be the next focus. I...

    Non-staggered for Model X

Does discount tires provide tire/rim storage, or you store them yourself?
  14. M

Distraught by rapid loss of maximum battery storage

I hear you, it’s a total different story if you live or frequently commute to places where SC is scarce. I have 25 SC in my state and I never felt the anxiety of “whether I will be able to make the next SC”, and I have only 221 rated miles at 100%.
  15. M

Distraught by rapid loss of maximum battery storage

You are absolutely correct, that charging during a road trip could be pain in the xxx. However, my main point was regarding OP saying he lost a few miles. I was trying to explain that in real world you wouldn’t even notice the “lost range” because it’s just a couple of mins at a supercharger.
  16. M

Hypothetical Supercharging Situation Etiquette - What would you do?

I have already started to see increased utilization at all supercharging stations I’ve been to in the past year. Sooner or later we may have a national supercharging congestion problem. I think at some point of time Tesla will need to implement a tiered cost system. For example if your SOC is...

Display Error or Time to Rebalance?

OP please read this: Tesla’s hacked Battery Management System exposes the real usable capacity of its battery packs - Electrek 90D/P90D – ~85.8 kWh total capacity, 81.8 kWh usable Granted this is an old article and Tesla may have tweaked its battery pack since, but you get the idea.
  18. M

Hypothetical Supercharging Situation Etiquette - What would you do?

Virtual queue will bring a whole different kind of issues. I will be pissed if I drove to the empty SC only to find that it won’t let me charge because there are other drivers who are enroute and “claimed” the charger first. It will be a mess and I don’t see how it can be implemented. Nothing...
  19. M

Hypothetical Supercharging Situation Etiquette - What would you do?

I agree with others. The moment you parked your car and left, you lose your spot. It is equivalent as when you were in a queue and then decided to leave and have a meal. You can’t expect to come back 30 mins later and tell everyone in the queue “I was here 30 mins ago and you should let me cut in”.

    Model X 60D holdouts?

I wouldn’t called it a scam but your post did bring up an interesting thing for other 60D owners to consider - whether Tesla softlock on a fixed value or a percentage. Since battery degrades over time and 75D starts with 72.4 kWh usable, if Tesla softlock on 60kwh fixes value, then the more...
  21. M

    Model X 60D holdouts?

    That’s actually in line with 75D’s 72.4kwh battery. My 75D has 221-222 mile at 100%, and 180 at 80% after 19k miles. 60/72.4=83%, 221*83%=183.
  22. M

Distraught by rapid loss of maximum battery storage

Don’t worry too much about it. Battery will lose its capacity over time and usage. It’s basic chemistry, and no company can change that. However, Tesla has the most sophisticated battery management system that can minimize battery degradation. Based on the history data, even after 100,000 miles...

Supercharger next to full service restaurant

Actually I was trying to say: be prepared to wait if the supercharger you are going to is next to a restaurant, and you are going at dinner hours. It will be very popular even if it’s a small town as people can easily park, charge, and have a full meal.
  24. M

Supercharger next to full service restaurant

I was recently in upstate New York and had to make a supercharger stop with 14% left. It’s a small station was only 6 stalls. When I am 30 minutes away it was showing 4 available. When I arrived at 5:30 they’re only 2 stalls available. 5 minutes later all stalls are full and there are 4 Tesla’s...

    Help Me with Tesla Math

This is mainly because battery capacity is not like gas in the tank or water in the bottle. The relationship of “speed of drinking”, time, and total volume of water in the bottle is linear, as we can say speed*time=volume. That is, if you have 500 ml water in a cup and you drink 250ml per...

75D...Don't care about Miles/kM, only kwH

The thing is, energy stored in the battery is very different compared to water in a cup. Here is a good explanation: “The discharging rates affect the rated battery capacity. If the battery is being discharged very quickly (i.e., the discharge current is high), then the amount of energy that can...

    4 kids: Minivan -> X...?

Of course the owners know this! I was referring to the general public who may think the trunk space is limited given how the roof line goes. If you need to carry 7 people with their cargo, get a minivan. For 4 adult and 2 kids, the X could work.
  28. M

    4 kids: Minivan -> X...?

Many people don’t realize, but Model X has a hidden compartment in the trunk that provide lots of depth. Two large suitcases can fit side by side, and you still have space for small cases/duffle bags on top. If you have the 6-seat version (highly recommended for easier getting on/off and better...

75D...Don't care about Miles/kM, only kwH

I think it depends on your driving style. If you drive conservatively and keep consumption around rated value, I believe you will get close to 50% of the total kWh (for 75D it’s around 72.4?) Alternatively if you drive like you stole it, Hard acceleration etc, You will get a lot less usable kWhs.

Navigation system really is not even close to TomTom....

Joking aside, we definitely could use a waypoint update. Sometimes I’d like to know the estimated battery % and the end of a multilag trip, and the only way to find it is thru a 3rd party website. Google map app on smartphones also allows you to search restaurants etc along your route and tells...

I had the same thing happen to my X one month into the ownership. Standard Range Battery

75kWh. Tesla didnt specifically say that the new charging speed is only applicable to long range, so I would think both long and standard range will receive the faster charging speed.

    2019.12.1 update

Can you provide more details? How was the charging experience changed for your 75D? Did you stay at 95kw for a longer period of time compared with before? What’s your SOC when beginning charging at 95kw?
  34. M

    2019.12.1 update

This is correct. Max amps for AC charging hasn’t nothing to do with supercharging (DC). Besides, since late 2018 even 100D’s AC charger was quietly lowered to 48amp only.

    2019 75d vs 100d : decision

Well, if OP still haven’t decided yet, today is your lucky day, as Tesla just announced refreshed Model X with increased range (250mile for standard range/75D) that comes with more power, faster charging (145kw at V2 and 200kw at V3), and better adaptive suspension. I felt that the standard...

    2019 75d vs 100d : decision

No offense but I felt that many people say “get the bigger one if you can afford” when a 75D vs 100D debate came up, and it doesn’t help at all. If OP has a billion dollar in liquid asset he wouldn’t be here, would he? Also since OP is deciding between a $85k+ car vs a $100k one, I don’t see...
  37. M

    2019 75d vs 100d : decision

If you can only get 120-140 miles from 75D, then you can only get 148-173 miles with 100D. That's extra 28-33 miles. Not a lot. So my point is that actually even the 100D does not have that much of range to erase range anxiety. We are not talking about 200 mile vs 400 mile range, but only 30-40...

    All electronics froze on highway

New Tesla owners need to be aware of a few things: 1. Screen going black / resetting does not impact car's driving function. Even AP would still be active while the screen reboot. 2. After each OTA, use the 2-scroll plus brake reboot method to reboot the system.
  39. M

    2019 75d vs 100d : decision

75D vs 100D is 237 vs 293 miles (there might be a more updated numbers for both but it doesn’t impact my conclusion). If both cars charge to 90% and never goes down to less than 10%, meaning only using 80% of the range, then we are talking about 189.6 vs 234.4 miles, or roughly 45 miles of range...

    Model X: Average Wh/mile Tracker

X75D Lifetime wh/mile=377 for 10k miles. 2018/8 build so I expect the number to drop further once we reach 2019/8. I am amazed at how efficient it can be when conditions are right. I am averaging 280-290 wh/mi during the last few days (ambient temp 50-65F, normal HVAC usage, range mode off and...

Model X gun locker / safe placement

Frunk can be easily opened by pulling a cable under the front bumper (right side). This is designed so that first responder can open the hood and disconnect high voltage battery. Unfortunately it also means frunk is the most vulnerable place for valuables.

Model X : Need help with Decision

What I meant is not for OP to get new Tesla every few years. Rather, I was referring to a few posts taking about “future proof your tesla” by getting the 100D, or for better resale value. The smart phone analogy was trying to focus on how technology evolves, not on price. The smart phone /...

Model X : Need help with Decision

It really depends on your driving style. If you constantly need to drive >200 miles, you will benefit from the larger battery, by potentially skipping a supercharging session, or shorter charging time. However, the larger battery also makes the car heavier, and of course is more expensive. Do...

Model X 75D or Long Range

Your first post says no EAP which is why I had doubt. So turns out you did have AP just not FSD. The price looks right, and if you want further savings you could request service center to remove the carbon wheel and save $2k, making it 84,200 before tax incentives.
  45. M

Model X 75D or Long Range

Agree, wonder how the car is priced before the discount. 75D should starts from around 82k, with premium package already included. Adding paint and 7-seat would make it $86k before destination charge. Where is the discount?

No. I only have AP (ordered recently for $2k). The release note says “autosteer stop light warning and sentry mode”.
