Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

Same story- every other car in my family that has ACC and lane keep assist has never had phantom braking. The thing that just busts my doilies is that my AP1 car has never ever had a single instance of PB, and I can go hours on the freeway without touching the steering wheel thanks to a wheel...

    Brake job miles?

Mine were similar to Beatle's post- powerstop coated rotors and full ceramic pads. Why go OEM for brakes? There are so many great brake component manufacturers, don't need to pay the extra cost for stamping "Tesla" on them.

    Brake job miles?

I recently did my front brakes at about 60k miles due to pulsing in the rotors. The pads had plenty of life left but pads are so cheap I changed them too while getting the rotors done. Tesla wanted nearly $2000, I had a local shop do it for $600 all-in including labor. The parts were about...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

I've owned my 2015 Model S (AP1) for over 3 years and never had one instance of phantom braking. I drove in my dad's 2022 Model Y and it was a terrifying experience, at least 10 phantom braking events in under an hour. Had to completely disable cruise control just to make it to my destination...

    Used Model S Value

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Pack replacements are the exception, not the norm. I certainly wouldn't expect to need a new pack in the next "3-5 years". I currently drive a 2015 with an original pack and have lost about 12 miles range compared to where it was when new. Unless you...

FREE: Model S Tempest Aero Covers from a 2020 (Lighter colored)

I had another thread where I tried to sell these but it's time for me to give up and give them away. I bought these to try to fit them on a different wheel but it was a failed experiment- they don't fit on the older Model S wheels (5 spoke or slipstream, both don't work). These are the Tempest...

    Positive EVGo experience

I tried this yesterday and it was not successful. Maybe because I'm in an older car, but when I selected the 2 lightning bolts, it showed me very, very slow L2 chargers and didn't even have this 50kw EVGo. The two that popped up under the 2 bolts were the one near my train station and the one...

    Positive EVGo experience

Interesting- I couldn't find this one in the Tesla map but it could be that I only had three bolts selected (thinking 2 bolts meant L2/240v, clearly I was wrong). I'll give it a try next time I'm in the car, that would be a really helpful feature!
  9. riles246

    Positive EVGo experience

I was out and about the other day and knew I needed to charge. I could make it home without charging, would probably be around 10%, but I wouldn't have time to get meaningful charge before heading back out to take kids to stuff which would make it pretty tight. The nearest supercharger would...

Can the Electric grid handle EV adoption

I get so tired of seeing these pop up on Twitter, FB, etc. People act as though someone will sneeze and then we'll be at 100% EV adoption overnight. The other thing they ignore is the hundreds of billions of dollars that Americans spend on gas every year, which will be spent on KwH. The power...

Talk me out of buying a 2016 70D - range

I have a 70D and occasionally take it to a ski resort that is 140 miles away. I can make it there in the dead of winter with about 10% battery, but since the public chargers at the resort are not reliable I need to make it with 20% so that I have enough juice to get to the nearest supercharger...

Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

As someone who has personally installed the Tsportline bumped on my own car, I didn't experience the bulging sensor issue at all. I do have a bit of an overbite when viewed at a very specific angle but only the trained eye would notice. I had no fitment issues at all; the only major issue I had...

MODS: Could you please make a sub-forum for 'reservation sales'???

I'm very grateful for all the work the mods do as well as the site owner for setting this up and keeping it running. Don't want to sound ungrateful as I really am not. But I agree- would be really nice to have a new vs used section, or even a model-specific section (as most looking for an X...

To 19" or 21", that is the question

What does the quoted text mean? Trying to decipher TWRAPS and MSM. Apparently whatever an MSM is, it's something you could have also had twice before. But somehow it's something you reserve? Is it stickers on the calipers or on the covers?
  16. riles246

To 19" or 21", that is the question

Personal preference but I can't stand 21" wheels. Too harsh, too much road noise. I would use 17's if they would fit (the don't). The extra inches of rubber between the road and the wheel really make a difference for comfort.

Aero wheel covers on Model S 2017??

Agreed! My car is a bit old so the range isn't terribly high compared to the new cars but anything I could do increase range would have a nice ROI compared to buying a new car. I've been toying with adding a diesel heater for the winter drives as my range is about 130 miles in deep winter...

Aero wheel covers on Model S 2017??

I did try this, didn't work. I tried on the 2015 wheels (the 5 spoke-style), and the slipstreams in my avatar, couldn't fit on either. The wheels need to be concave to fit the covers so the 5 spoke didn't work, and the slipstream style just have too many spokes and don't line up with the...

    Semi-new 22 LR owner questions

That trunk picture looks nasty, I wouldn't accept a $100k car looking like that. I only paid like $40k for my used S a few years back and I wouldn't have accepted it if it looked like that when I went to pick it up. Honestly I'm surprised by how bad the paint looks in that closeup too- I...

Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

What was included in the $3k price? If that included all the parts and the paint work, I'd say that it's about spot on. I swapped the Tsportline bumper myself and no joke it was probably about 20 hours all-in start to finish including the paint work, and I still have another 2-3 hours of wet...

Contacting Tesla about my car's constant need for repairs

Yeah agreed. My issue is just with how long it takes to get an appointment, which is just not something I've ever had to deal with on our Lexus, or past Mercedes and even VW cars. And the lack of being able to call someone. My driver door handle wouldn't present and I had to wait two weeks...

Contacting Tesla about my car's constant need for repairs

Same here. So far on my 2015 that I've owned since 2019, my warranty has only covered 3 door handles via ranger visit, though I'm sure the fourth is coming any day. I only have 60k miles due to a short commute, but it's driven every single day. Everything else has been covered under a recall-...

PSA: If you have a pre-2016 Model S, Get the Steering Recall Work Done

Actually somehow mine wasn't so bad- the bolt corroded causing the ground wire to become disconnected, so the power steering stopped assisting. But in my case, luckily, the rack mechanically stayed intact so they were able to just replace the broken bolt and everything came back to life. I...

PSA: If you have a pre-2016 Model S, Get the Steering Recall Work Done

Had my 2015 Model S towed to the service center last night after the power steering died about 15 minutes away from the house. It was terrifying right at the moment that it happened, and it took a lot of muscle to get it home. Decided to call for a tow instead of muscling it to the SC. This...

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

Do you really think they can fix it with software? This car is the worst I've ever driven with respect to auto-headlights, and Tesla still keeps ramming it down our throats by overriding the auto-highbeam settings whenever AP is enabled. They seem to think it works fine, which makes me think...

Could Tesla crash fatality be due to "sudden braking"?

After driving a Model Y last week that experienced a strong phantom brake, I can say- I'm not surprised. I'm just so freaking livid about how dangerous the problem is, and just flabbergasted that it is so widespread yet totally ignored.

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

These cars are dangerous, but seems Tesla is taking the Pinto approach- they aren’t going to fix it until enough people die. I was nearly rear ended at 60mph by a non-Tesla when the Y I was driving slammed on the brakes for no reason. My 2015 Model S literally never phantom brakes on...

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

I have a 2015 Model S with AP1 and have never had a phantom breaking event in the 30,000 miles that I’ve owned it. I bragged about my car to my dad for years until he finally broke down this year and bought a MYP. I’m visiting him this week and took his car on a 150 mile trip to Disney on mostly...

Vendor T Sportline 2012-2016 Tesla Model S Front Bumper Refresh (FBR)

Sorry to keep bumping this thread, but just to bring it full circle, it took 5 minutes to move the sensor and about 30 minutes roundtrip to remove and replace the bumper. I've become a pro at taking the bumper cover off and putting it back on. The old location for the sensor is in front of the...

Vendor T Sportline 2012-2016 Tesla Model S Front Bumper Refresh (FBR)

Also minor addition- I didn't see any reference to this in the Tsportline thread, but in the Unplugged Performance bumper refresh thread they refer to moving the ambient temperature sensor to the lower shroud in order to prevent weird temperature readings. I confirm that this is needed on the...

Vendor T Sportline 2012-2016 Tesla Model S Front Bumper Refresh (FBR)

Finished mine over the holiday. LOVE it. Spent about $2k all-in with the bumper (black friday sale), paint, and net cost of the wheels (I sold mine and bought new for roughly even trade). Painted it myself using paint from automotivetouchup.com and a sprayer that I already had from a different...

Free: Blue front bumper (Nosecone) - Ocean Blue Metallic Paint Code B101E

I did the Tsportline front bumper refresh recently and have no need for my original bumper. It's paint code B101E. Not perfect as it came off a car with 60k miles but overall very good. I had to take a few things off the factory bumper, so you'll need to repurpose from your old one- the T...

I tried to fit them on 2015 Model S 5 spoke rims. I didn't appreciate that the wheels need to be concave in order for these to work; the 5 spokes bulge out in the center which blocks these from sitting flush.

Set of 4 Tempest Aero Covers off of a 2020 Model S. These are the lighter silver ones, not the darker ones. Bought these to experiment with fitment on other 19" wheels; they didn't fit anything else :) I didn't modify them in any way- as soon as I held them up next to my wheels it was clear...

Just bought one of these on their black friday sale, looking forward to it. Wanted to poll the group though- do people recommend matte or gloss black for the area behind the emblem? Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

That nosecone car has modded headlights though, that makes a big difference. Honestly I think that's the first thing you need to do before doing the bumper- frosting/painting the led strip to look more like the 2016+ and blacking out the internal housing goes a long way to making the nosecone...
