Anyone in the UK 'upgraded' their Model Y suspension?

Suspension 'comfort' is a subjective thing but I don't think anyone could say there isn't a big difference between driving a MY around on well maintained motorways/A roads and doing the same on potholed city/town/country roads. On good roads it's fine. On bad roads it's awful. Teslas have never...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

The cameras with black tape fix show no glare at all. Initially, it looked like the -D cameras were the only ones guaranteed to fix the issue, but Tesla then told me this -J camera is the only one they are now selling (at least in the UK). The performance of the -J and -D camera is identical. No...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Yes, I thought I posted that earlier. There are two types of camera which have the glare fixed. The ones with tape applied to the camera PCB and the ones using black glue on the camera PCB. The -D cameras have the black glue. I can't say 100% about the -J ones as I haven't opened one up but they...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

No, the internals look to me like they are from two different manufacturers but it's impossible to say why they are so different. Dual sourcing perhaps?

    Parking Brake

"Everyone in agreement" is not what I strive for as it's impossible. 😉 Just explaining something accurately and completely is all I can hope to do. There will always be those who don't agree for whatever reason. Often just to be difficult or because they can't admit they might be wrong.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

We got 1125106-50-J & 1125107-50-J from parts a couple of weeks ago. This is the alternate part with no glare. Pretty easy just to order them and replace yourself.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I have a feeling 1125106-50-J/1125107-50-J will be the version with black tape over the via holes and camera whereas 1495864-20-D/1495865-20-D will have no via holes and use black glue The PCBs and components are very different between the two, but maybe it's wrong to assume the 112510x-xx-x...

Repeater camera issues. Blinkers seen on screen when flashing.

Tesla parts in the UK have told me there are new part numbers which supersede the 1495865-20-D & 1495864-20-D cameras we thought were the latest. The latest p/n are 1125106-50-J and 1125107-50-J. I'm ordering a couple in and will report back with any obvious changes.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

That poster was me ;) There are a few ways to make a hole in the housing to get the black stuff in there and it's really not that difficult if the alternative is to pay for new cameras. I just hate the thought of thousands of cameras being thrown in a bin somewhere when they can be made good...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

This is an old part number. I can only think they have old stock and not much stock movement. I have a 1125107-77-E camera here and it suffers from glare because it has the 3 via hols on the camera PCB. You need 1495865-20-D & 1495864-20-D

Yes, you have to press and hold for a couple of seconds if you really want the e-brake.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I've got two -C repeaters here and neither of them were fixed from the factory. The tape fix will only have been done at the factory where the repeaters are made (in Korea) and I would expect them to do something with the part number so it's possible to tell the difference without testing, but...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

They won't be reworking the ones they took out, they'll go into a trash can (or recycling bin) somewhere. What I don't understand is they've put rev -C repeaters in and we've seen they have glare. I thought the rev -D repeaters were being installed now? Very confusing.
  17. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Yes, the two connections work independently of each other. The connectors I used for the extension were salvaged from an old GPS receiver & antenna I had lying around. They aren't exactly the right size, but I made them fit! So sorry I can't really help ID the correct ones for you.
  18. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I've seen several comments along the lines of "why not just disconnect the blinker". IMO that's more of a safety issue than FSD or you being affected by the glare. A car behind and to the side of yours will have very poor visibility of your rear blinker (which in the UK is orange and quite...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

The chrome trims do fit but you have a sort of double lip. Looks OK though if you want a chrome finish. Honestly, the repair isn't that difficult if you take your time and as long as you have a way to make a hole in the housing which won't destroy the innards!

    PSA: Bed in your brakes

It has nothing to do with asbestos being present or not. Some pads, often destined for racing, can come pre-scorched from the manufacturer so they've already been heat-cycled, but all pads benefit from bedding in with the rotors they're going to be used with in order to transfer a layer of pad...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

How far away a camera can 'see' an object depends on many variables including sensor resolution, lens focal length, resolving power, how the data from the sensor is processed, lighting & weather conditions etc. etc. so there isn't a definitive number and I assume 80m was chosen based on the...

Good to hear it's working! But any chance you could correct the spelling of our name? ;)
  23. Tevo Solutions

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Yes, most cameras do if they don't have an IR cut filter in front of the sensor. That's nowhere near the wavelength of your frying pan though. 🤣
  24. Tevo Solutions

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Some posters here are confusing infra red detection with thermal detection. Very different.
  25. Tevo Solutions

    PSA: Bed in your brakes

It doesn't. Brakes aren't used to slow the car unless using Autopilot or there's an AEB incident.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

The trim part in chrome or black will only fit the early cameras.
  27. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Got one of the 'carbon black trims' now. It's just a black stick on cap so that if you had the earlier style chrome cameras which didn't have the 'lip' molded into the housing, this trim will give you that once you remove the chrome trim. I don't know whether that lip is functional or just...

Repeater camera feeds are mostly useless when turn signal is on at night

I can only think the very early repeaters weren't welded together as well as the current ones. I've taken a few apart now and they are really difficult to get apart, but they've all been from cars built 2019 and later.

Vendor Have you had worn or failing/failed suspension bushes/arms replaced on your Telsa?

These are very common. We're replacing one today on one of our own cars. Currently they are replaced under warranty but we plan to have a better version ready to sell for when they are outside warranty.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Yes, my video 😁 What went wrong with your previous camera? That may have been the already documented recall on camera failures perhaps. Nothing to do with glare though of course.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

@Durzel I was told on Jan 5th that the -D camera wasn't yet available. I emailed parts again this morning asking to order a -D camera again so let's see if I get the same response. If I can't get a -D I'll just order another -C so I can make 100% sure my repair method works on that revision...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Yes, I did mean damaging the chrome cover as the one I took off was stuck on very well and there was no way to get it off without damage but I agree that when you do get it off you end up with essentially a de-chromed camera. I've ordered one of the 'carbon black' trims detailed in the EPC to...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

OK, so there's good news and bad news. Bad news first - the -C part does indeed still suffer from glare as @Seminole found out. Although the PCB on the camera was redesigned and those 3 via holes were eliminated (which I wrongly assumed would fix the probem) there is still light entering the...
  37. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

No, there's no black cap fitted. It comes as you see it in my video. At least the -C part does as that's all I can get here in the UK. I still don;t understand what the 'carbon black' cover is but I'll order one tomorrow to find out.
  38. Tevo Solutions

I'm surprised you didn't damage it. They're really thin and easy to bend. I couldn't get the one off my sample without damage.

Model Y Suspension and Ride Comfort Options

My personal opinion is if it's much less than that, the quality won't be good enough. The manufacturers/distributors/dealers are all getting a cut of the retail price. If a kit was to retail for $2k, corners will be cut on quality. There's too much cheap and nasty stuff being made already...

Model Y Suspension and Ride Comfort Options

The rumours of Bilstein releasing suspension kits for the M3/MY have been around for some time. We got tired of waiting, so developed our own Bilstein-based coilover kit for the Model 3 and we'll be doing the same for the Y as soon as we get ours off the ship in a couple of week's time. The MY...

    PSA: Bed in your brakes

Bedding the brakes on a new Model 3 or Y (or any car come to that) is essential as the OP says. Braking efficiency improves dramatically if you take the time to do this and it will also help keep your discs free of corrosion later if you use regen mostly. I thought the brakes on my M3P were not...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I think you could be right that it's not fixed on the -C part. I'm going to test again today.
  43. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Yes, of course. Just make sure you carry out a camera calibration after. Also, immediately after you replace a camera it won't come up on screen immediately. You have to close the door so the car powers down and leave it for 5 minutes.
  44. Tevo Solutions

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

Thanks. I can't make sense of what you've found. The same part number I have here (which appears in my video) has the later PCB which doesn't suffer from glare. Shame you couldn't keep it as looking inside would be the only was to solve the mystery, I suppose we can only conclude now that we'd...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

-C are fixed. They have the completely new PCB design.

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I did see a small amount of glare coming in from one side after I fixed the first two on mine but not enough to be noticed unless the lens was taped over. It's possible of course that certain batches of cameras were made differently and let light in differently but it would take more research...

I doubt the saving is 10Kg. The original lead acid battery isn't that big. Probably more like 5Kg which will make no difference you'd be able to feel.
