Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

A few weeks ago I was just about ready to trade in my 2013 S for a new Bolt EUV. I'm waiting for my day 2 cybertruck reservation, and thought maybe I'd get a Bolt to avoid any maintenance issues with my old S. It would almost be a straight up trade (cost wise). What killed the deal for me is the...

Is this finally the flush the market has been looking for? What do we need to call it? Doesn't seem to be high enough volume.

Sheetz is downright awesome. I live near where they started and recall a very early service ranger informing me that he made several service visits to one of the owners homes for repairs on his early Model S. Definitely a forward looking company and on the side of the good.

The last 10 minutes is when the "closing cross" occurs, which is typically when and how most institutions make trades. This isn't manipulation or necessarily bears, it's just how large buy/sell orders impact the market in a fairly short period.

Weekend off topic... I bought a very small amount of shares in Polestar (PSNY) a few weeks ago. I just signed into my account to see if I was earning any "fully-paid lending income" and found that I'm earning 156% annually on those shares being lent out!

Thanks for correcting. Yes, I think Elon is implying (and has been hinting at this for a while) that he is beginning to see significant input cost declines, and that the fed is at risk of making a policy mistake by hiking rates too much. Certainly the fed has a lot of data, but we see how well...

Our local utility (Penelec) tries to require that an AC disconnect be installed near the meter. This is not required by the NEC and serves no purpose, as UL requires that the inverter drops off immediately upon loss of grid power. I've now done 5 systems where I pushed back against Penelec's...

This makes me wonder when would Tesla be able to do in house vehicle financing? I know, fast growing tech companies aren't supposed to use cash on things like that, but it's going to start piling up soon. Would that make sense?

It's been a while since I looked into it, but the answer is no. I recall digging into this about 15 years ago, when Cheniere was building their export terminal and if I recall correctly, the total magnitude of exports was way less than 1% of our annual production/consumption. Ships just aren't a...

Do we really believe that additional financial incentive thrown at battery materials will increase output, or will it just cause more market dislocations? For residential systems, I agree, but for commercial systems, that's relatively impractical. A 2 million BTU per hour boiler costs $50k and can be installed in a small room. Try getting that much heating capacity out of heat pumps and you would be shocked at the cost and size.

As someone who designs commercial HVAC systems for a living, I don't completely agree with the sudden push to go all electric. We'll get there in time, but I can tell you that with the amount of gas used for heating large buildings and manufacturing processes, we won't be weaned off of gas for...

This is exactly the opposite of the point being made. You need to sell the rights to (via covered calls) many more shares than you would if you just sell them outright. Pennies and steam rollers. The point he was making, which is completely valid, is that sudden upward moves can destroy your gains when you've sold calls on your shares. Nobody is saying absolutely don't sell calls, but understand the risks. It's like selling lottery tickets. It works most of...

I'm confused. That's funny @reddy, you were in the same row as I was. I was wearing a green shirt, probably about 5 chairs to your left. That was such a great experience to attend. It's not like anything I've ever attended before and not like me to fly half way across the country for a few hour event.

My account is over 90% TSLA, so I made very little on the small amount of investments that were being borrowed. It was usually around 1% per month, of the value of what was being borrowed. As far as risks go, I think that's as small as possible, and essentially nothing. The same risk would...

It completely depends on the asset being loaned and its borrow rate. They vary daily, and at the moment I don't have anything that's being borrowed. ARKK was paying like 10%+, I had some BROS which was paying over 25% APR, all calculated and paid daily.
