Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA - Bernard Dr. (LIVE, 56 V3 stalls)

I’ve noticed this before, but it seems to take an extremely long time for the UI to show chargers down. When we got there the area was a ghost town. The gas station pumps were running on some kind of backup power and the attendant said power had been out for many hours. The In N Out and...

Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA - Bernard Dr. (LIVE, 56 V3 stalls)

Kettleman is completely down today: both sides. The entire area is without power. Lots of people wondering what to do. Was able to limp to Harris Ranch with 3 miles left.

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

Still experiencing this. My app said "Last seen 23 days ago" this morning. But, I just got pushed an update. I'm now on 2021.24.28. Looks like it's been rolling out to MCU1 folks over the past few days. I updated real quick and as of now I'm still connected. We'll see what happens. My...

    540 Server Error

Might want to keep track if it starts getting more frequent. My Model S escalated over a period of months where a reset would get it functional again for weeks, then eventually days, and now it only gets me an hour of functionality.

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

Similar debug process here. They say it's not an issue with the car, it's an issue with the app, and there's nothing wrong with the car. They were extremely sensitive about suggesting there was any issue with the car, to the point of nearly yelling at me. They said the Service Center can't do...

    Model s 85D 2015 won't heat

It was inside the DCDC. The technician had to tear apart a good bit of the car and open up the DCDC itself. It's high voltage work, so probably not recommended for customer replacement. At one point it looked like half the "engine bay" was sitting in my driveway. He said I was lucky in that...

    Model s 85D 2015 won't heat

I had something similar happen in my 2013. I know they changed this design at some point and am not sure if it still applies to the 2015s, but within the DCDC there was a fuse for the PTC heater. The fuse blew on my car and had to be replaced, which was handled in a mobile service. There was...

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

I think a major difference is that Apple is extremely clear, up-front, about how long you can expect your phone to receive updates, and then they often still exceed those guidelines and provide updates longer. There's nothing like that here. Indeed Tesla indicates it should still work, it just...

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

It looked to me like 2021.44.25.2 also has a pretty high install base: 60% of the pre-autopilot fleet on 2020.48.37.8, but 35% on 2021.44.25.2. I don't know what would keep my particular vehicle off of the newer one, but apparently something. I had the LTE upgrade, so it's on the current...

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

I don't usually like to reward bad behavior by forking over more money, but I probably would have considered it if I knew it would fix the issue. But they said they've seen new Model S/3/Y with similar issues recently, and they don't have a clue as to what the cause might be. So I might spend...

Persistent 500 Server Error / 540 Vehicle Server Error

So for the past 2-3 months my 2013 Model S has been unavailable in the Tesla App. The app reports one of the two following errors: 540 Vehicle Server Error 500 Server Error Rebooting the MCU will fix it temporarily. At first, months ago, rebooting would buy me another week or more. Then it...

    Tesla Roadside and Tire availability

I wouldn't, considering it stranded me on the side of the road because it was defective. And apparently it was a widespread issue Tesla was aware of but didn't notify buyers. See this any many other discussions on the topic:
  15. Gizmotoy

    Tesla Roadside and Tire availability

It's not the part you quoted, but are you referring to the tire repair kit? No, it's a Tesla thing. Or was, it sounds like supply chain issues have hit it: Tesla discontinues Tire Repair Kit due to supply shortage, new updated version coming in "several months" Ah, I see what you're saying...
  16. Gizmotoy

    Tesla Roadside and Tire availability

It's in the sidewall, so needs a new tire. The tires are supposedly between 8/32 and 9/32 in depth, and they're 9/32 brand new, so one new tire seems to make a fair bit more sense than 4 new ones.

    Tesla Roadside and Tire availability

I unfortunately got a flat tire late this past Saturday evening. I have the Tesla tire repair kit and was going to use that, but my luck as it is, the kit was defective on its very first use. So I called Roadside, and the wheel loaner service had just closed 10 minutes prior, so they said it...

Any luck on this? Mine is doing the same now. Rebooting the MCU fixes it for a few days, but it comes back.

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

There does seem to be some correlation, but there’s something else at work here too. As mentioned above, I closed my TeslaFi account and then also changed my password. No other third party apps. The contractors are out there cycling right now.

Tesla OEM vs. RallyArmor mud flaps

It's not that much. I looked up the discussion and there's some argument over whether it's 11mm (1.1 cm, which is maybe where that 1.1 came from) or 15mm. Even actual lowering springs only come in at about 25mm (~1"). The Model 3 Performance was lowered by 10mm. Your car was probably sitting...
  21. Gizmotoy

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

No clear resolution. Tesla leaned heavily on the "are you now or have you ever used a third-party app with the vehicle?" I have used several over the years, so they wanted to try removing those first. I had TeslaFi connected, so I cancelled my account and the problem went away immediately...

Tesla OEM vs. RallyArmor mud flaps

Correct, the pics were where they scrape on the curb on the way up. The Performance lowers the suspension by 1cm or less (I forget the exact amount). There's 2.125" of clearance from the bottom of the flap to the ground. I've had these on about a week and a half now. They scrap over basically...
  23. Gizmotoy

Tesla OEM vs. RallyArmor mud flaps

Right? I also have a laser cutter and was tempted to throw the Tesla ones in, but I couldn’t figure out what they’re made of. There’s actually two materials: the bottom is very flexible, but the part that mounts to the wheel well is rigid and it changes halfway down. I’m pretty sure a sturdy...
  24. Gizmotoy

Tesla OEM vs. RallyArmor mud flaps

A couple reasons. Yes, it does make a pretty bad noise. Over time the bottom might get pretty badly scraped up and ugly. The bending puts pressure on the clips and over time they might fail. Less than ideal, but not critical. On the moulded designs the scraping is what might cause rubbing and...

Oh! I hadn't thought of that. A use for the little tunnel! I'm definitely going to do this, thanks.

Windshield sun shade same as model 3?

After having both a Covercraft and a Heatshield, while I love the perfect fit, I hate that they’re huge and unwieldy. The HeatShield in particular can be difficult to roll up if you don’t get it tight enough at the start, and both take up a good bit of room in the car to store it. If you’re...

Tesla OEM vs. RallyArmor mud flaps

I'm starting to get some chips and damage to the rear fenders of my Model Y, so was reading through all of the mud flap threads here. There are quite a few of them, and I wanted to get an idea of which flaps to buy. My main stipulation is that they not be the moulded kind that sit over the...

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

2020.48.37 is the newest release available for my vehicle. They see the behavior in the logs and think there might be a software fix, but needed more time to figure it out so they pushed my appointment back a couple days. We'll see.
  29. Gizmotoy

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

Thank you. I'm reading through this now. We actually had "Energy Saving" Off and "Stay Connected" On, so the vehicle would never sleep anyway. Even in that configuration it would only cycle them after many hours. As part of debugging I changed those settings and the behavior continued...

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

Darn, thanks for the insights. I was able to schedule a shockingly-fast mobile service for tomorrow, so I'll try to get the latest on this. These devices have a very limited number of open/close cycles (usually in the mid tens of thousands), so it's a lot of wear for our vehicles if it's...

    Contactors opening/closing repeatedly

My 2013 P85 has, in the past few days, started exhibiting an unusual behavior: when plugged in, but not charging, I can hear the contactors cycling over and over again. It does the characteristic "clack-clack", then about 4 minutes later the single clunk of them opening, a few second pause...

    Tow Hitch Cover

I appreciate any attempt at solutions to this horrible design of a hitch cover, but personally I don't think I could drive around without the safety pin inserted. I was out there last night measuring trying to figure out a way to affix the cover to the bumper with magnets. I was inspired by...

    Frunk delivered dented

Sorry for the book, quick summary at bottom. It's been awhile since I had this fixed, and long enough that this probably won't get anyone directly in trouble. Getting this fixed was awful, and Tesla either lied to me or at the very least repeatedly made statements that weren't true. After 4...

Review: Tesla's Model Y Rear Liftgate Sunshade

While I can't speak directly for this Model Y iteration, on the Model S version, which uses the same design and presumably the same material, this doesn't work. You just get a nicely-illuminated mesh screen, and the trunk contents are still not visible. I'm a little disappointed the fit seems...

Regen Braking Temporarily Reduced - Every time

I see this all the time too. I thought it was broken so I actually have a service center visit scheduled. The Model Y sits in the warm garage and when I leave I have 100% regen. After about 15-20 minutes of driving, it pops the regenerative braking is reduced warning. I'd be surprised if...

CA CAV HOV Lane Decal - Wait times

I finally received the plates Tesla ordered for me back in October. I also have the new black/yellow plates on the way. I wonder if I can apply using the current plates, or have to wait for the new ones? This doesn't seem to be covered in the FAQ. Anyone know? Edit: Actually, there's an...

    Screen Changes with New Update

They actually can, they just don't use it except in extreme circumstances. In 2013 they pushed a mandatory, non-deferrable update over cellular to raise the minimum air suspension setting after impacts with road debris caused several fires. As far as I'm aware, this is the only time they've...

    1up USA Bike Rack

It's pretty nice, for sure. There are a couple minor issues: If you install to the minimum 2" depth suggested by 1Up, you can't really use the storage position. It's within maybe a mm or 2 of the bumper, so will almost certainly make contact over bumps. I've been installing to full depth and...

iPhone 12 Pro Max and charging

Not sure, that's why I labeled them strictly as Model Y spacers. That said, both of the pieces I'm connecting to say something like "Model 3/Y Dock" along with the part number stamped on the back, so I suspect the Model 3s with the matching interior will also work. rotiv54436's solution would...

It's right on the product page: "Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W" iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max - Technical Specifications No problems here on any Qi charger other than the Y. And even that one appears to be because Tesla slightly undersized the ledge. Separate note, I can confirm the modified...

iPhone 12 Pro Max and charging

Due to the design of the thing, you can't move it down a half inch. The internal structure of the connection mechanism prevents this. Based on tolerances, I think you could move it down by about 3mm and still be able to connect all the pieces together. Perhaps a little more. But it's a big...

Cabin Heater not working after 12V replacement?

This has been quite an oddyssey. I took the car in on Monday and they thought they'd have it done in a day. They keep finding other issues and haven't been able to get it back up and running yet. It's actually offline completely right now (not just "In Service") so it must be powered down...

My leather case is still on backorder, but due to arrive next week. I've also modified the spacer model the Jeda and Etsy offerings are based on to be more applicable to the Y. If the leather case doesn't charge reliably in the driver side slot, I'll adjust the model to fix it. I do know the...

Pretty stoked about this powered frunk

I picked mine up back in October, and it finally goes in to have the hood replaced with a pre-painted part on Friday. Will be looking to install one of these shortly after!

    Tesla Bike Rack

No, this was with the rack installed at the minimum recommended depth. The instructions say there must be at least 2" from the start of the ball to the end of the hitch. This brings the rack extremely close to the trunk when in the "storage" position: it's practically touching. The last time...

    Tesla Bike Rack

Interesting. I also have a 1up and the trunk would definitely hit the rack when up. The 2" ball-to-end-of-receiver minimum makes it extremely close to the trunk when up. In fact, I'm positive it would damage the car if I drove it like that. I have to use the "extra space" setting with it...

iPhone 12 Pro Max and charging

A friend charged a 12 mini on mine a week or so ago. He put a pencil on the ledge and then put the phone on top of that. Not super stable, but it worked. No case, though. The phone does have to be quite still for a few seconds for the charging to start. Maybe that's all it was...

    Spoiler advice

It's a big strip of adhesive tape under there. If it started to pull up, there's basically no way to fix it that doesn't involve removing the entire thing because the tape's glue is fouled. They actually replace the entire part. I had mine replaced for the same reason a month or so ago.
