    Key Fob won't lock door

I have the same problem, and it certainly seems to be one button, and not the whole key or radio link. After Tesla Service charged $95 to decide that they can't repair it, and another $43 to determine that they cannot program my spare key, I decided to use my EE skills to repair. Opening the...

Caution - Annual Service - Car power-down - GPS issue

FYI: The Seattle Service Center (SC) is still waiting for a cable like this. I have no idea what they would have charged ($550?) if they'd received a cable before I got tired of waiting (two weeks) and rescued my Roadster. The estimate included $95 diagnostics to look into my complaint of the...

VehicleLogs file name year shows 2001 and 2002

Thanks for mentioning that. I'd been assuming that the date on the VDS was correct simply because the time is correct, but I checked today and the year is 2002 on the VDS as well. I've been trying to get an appointment with Tesla Service, so I'll make sure to mention all of this. I'm sure they...

VehicleLogs file name year shows 2001 and 2002

The last VehicleLogs file that I pulled with the correct year was 202009190502.tar Since then, I'm seeing file names like 200103161832.tar and 200208092332.tar Is this a permanent error in the Linux system running internally, or is it a matter of setting the date? I've read on this forum about...

Any early Roadsters with the original battery?

Could it be possible that the Roadster firmware needs to know the capacity more accurately in order to properly balance the cells? I'm just guessing here because of the rumor that Tesla Motors decided to do a Range charge when servicing. There must have been some benefit. Could it be that Tesla...

Any early Roadsters with the original battery?

My understanding is that it's actually bad to *never* Range-charge. I don't know whether the ideal is monthly, or perhaps less often, but you don't want to Standard-charge exclusively. Rumor has it that Tesla would Range-charge any vehicle that came in for service ... at least once they learned...

Impact of 2nd gen Roadster on 1st gen prices?

When I purchased my Roadster, I was basically in the market for a Lotus, but refused to buy another gasoline engine. The new Tesla Roadster is not a Lotus, so in my opinion it's just a name. There is no relation between the cars. Of course, many original owners just wanted any electric car...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

One thing to note is that 180 miles of range is just in standard mode. This VIN 0996 probably still charges to 225 or more in Range Mode. Not a very knowledgeable description to leave out that detail. The CAC of 148.78Ah tells even more of the story.

Any record of which VIN were test-driven in Bellevue before production?

https://xconomy.com/seattle/2008/09/26/test-driving-the-tesla-roadster-and-glimpsing-the-future-of-electric-cars/ This confirms my recollection that there was no shifting. But the gear shift was visible, so I don't know why the author says "no stick shift" - maybe he meant the verb sense, not...

Any record of which VIN were test-driven in Bellevue before production?

by the time I got in the car, the 2-speed was locked into low. I recall them suggesting that I not change gears because it might not go back. Thunder Gray seems right. I recall it wasn't bright. I was one of the last test drivers, and I convinced them to let me take my Honda S2000 around the...

Any record of which VIN were test-driven in Bellevue before production?

I fondly recall signing up for a test-drive of a Tesla Roadster in Bellevue. This was held in the parking lot of a Sears store that had been closed for some time. I didn't know anything about VP or other VIN numbering schemes at the time, but now I'm wondering whether anyone has a record of...

    Anyone pull VehicleLogs in 2021?

My car acts like it's 2001. I'm wondering if this is some sort of "Y2K" issue with the OS. I suppose it's also possible that Tesla reset the computer somehow during my last service. If anyone has logs from 2021 that they're willing to share, I'd like to take a look with my macOS app. Send me a...

    Roadster History North America

Wheels might be fine - I don't see how so much rubber survived with tread intact. Frame might be fine (I am certainly no expert on how well an aluminum frame might survive a total fire) The "Estimated Retail Value" of $73,893 is freakin' hilarious! It has to be worth less than $20,000 ... a lot...

    Vehicle 2 Grid

Um, all of the Roadster motors are AC, and are built to go bi-directionally. That's how regenerative braking works - the motor generates electricity that charges the battery, and magnetically brakes the drive train. The other response explain how it was the electronics outside the motor that...

    Vehicle 2 Grid

YouTube Closed Captioning plus filling in a few words that they missed, Musk said, "and we actually had - with the original roadster - we had, uh, [vehicle to grid] capabilities; nobody used it." I think it's possible that Musk got confused by the "dual charging" system that the Roadster has...

    Roadster production dates

I'm talking about the main operating system - the one that maintains VehicleLogs, has the serial number and manufacture date. I don't doubt that it's completely separate from the DSP firmware that operates the motor - which surely doesn't have the overhead of Linux or any high level OS. The...

I've always heard that the battery, motor, and electronics (PEM?) were not made in Hethel. They've been manufactured at more than one place during the history of the Roadster, though. What I don't know is where the Unix (Linux?) operating system runs. If that's in a module separate from the PEM...

    Roadster production dates

Looking at TEG's list, a few VIN birth dates are out of order. Our birth dates are in order: Dec 2010 for #1180 and Feb 2011 for #1244, so that doesn't seem so strange. Since the last comment came after a "nitpick", I'll assume that the intention was to say that this car does not have an adjustable suspension because it's not a Sport. I live in Seattle, Tesla Motors' second largest market after California, and joined a local Tesla Roadster club. I have a similar issue. No other Tesla Model, so the app doesn't work for me. I've left a voice message - since the office was too busy to answer the "currently in service" option. Today's Roadster Orphan

I wouldn't lump all "red" Roadsters into the same bin. Radiant Red is incredibly common, while Fusion Red is somewhat rare. Less than 25% of the red Roadsters in my quick check are Fusion. I happen to think red cars are boring, in general, but the Fusion Red is an absolutely beautiful color...

Tesla Vehicle Log Graphing application for Mac OS X

Folks have asked about a 64-bit version. I'll get started on that. At the moment, Apple won't take my $99 to upgrade my developer account for another year, so I won't release it right away. Blog Tesla Sued for Deadly Crash on Autopilot

Tesla should not make any statement if the best they can do is count how many times other drivers did not crash in the same place. I don't think Tesla is to be blamed for this, but citing the number of success stories has absolutely nothing to do with whether their technology was at fault in...

I just noticed that the App Store contains a macOS app called Nikola.app It promises support for Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Roadster. 3.0 Battery Longevity

I just found this thread and was going to ask how we know that we can trust the first range estimates, so I'm glad to see your hypothesis. My understanding is that predicting actual battery charge is quite difficult, and prone to error. Considering the small number of Roadsters, the lack of...
