With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

Stopped 3 times for charging. First one estimated (when unplugged) my arrival at 17%, actual arrival 9%. Second estimated 24%, actual 17%. Third estimated 22% actual 16%. The last leg had some wind. Otherwise 70-80F and no real serious wind.

Model 3 September 2020 Range Question! Please help us!

It looks like it may be possible that Model 3 LR made in September of 2020, have a slightly longer range than ones made earlier in the year. However, we need a larger sample set. The sticker in your drivers side door jam states the date of manufacture. Please ONLY MODEL 3 LONG RANGE...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

I don't really want to mess with those settings. We really need to find someone who got a Model 3 LR with aero wheels in September. Running some numbers, even if the computer no longer takes wheels into account. I still would only be getting about 79% efficiency. Much lower than I got on the...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

I think you might be right about the wheel size. I got abysmal efficiency during a long highway drive yesterday: This was taken from Tezlab on the exact same 121mi stretch of highway in NC: On my 2017 Model S 75D, the rated range was 254mi when new and 236mi during this drive. Average speed of...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

On my 2017 Model S 75D, after 3 years and 69k miles (34k of which was supercharged), I had 8% degradation. The first year seemed to be the biggest with ~4% hit. But after two years, it seemed to stabilize at 7%. Always keep in mind the "effective" range of the vehicle. The number on the...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

So the rated range on yours is the same as mine. Wonder if anyone who has a post June 2020 but pre sept 2020 M3 LR can chime in on their range?

ABRP Battery Degradation Comparison Post / Poll

I have twice. However, I think we figured out the problem. It seems like I have a sort of hybrid of the "old" and new LR Model 3. Mine was made the third week of September 2020. With 19" wheels it charges to 320mi at full, putting it at 340mi at full if I had 18" wheels. Today we took out the...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

Looks damn near identical. So as you said, a chimera. I know that Tesla has a "as things become available we add them" attitude. So I'm guessing mine was just made during some weird transition period.

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

haha. I really want to check now. With the heat at max and A/C off, it makes the same amount of noise as it does when the it's on "LO" and the A/C on. Also, it's FAR quieter than my my old MS. Totally taking that cover off!! It's straightforward, I did it on the MS.
  10. sublimejackman

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

Alright. I have few minutes, unless you know of some better way to check, I'm going to take the cover off the frunk and see if I can get glimpse of a maybe heat pump (assuming it's bright orange and in the same place as a Model Y).
  11. sublimejackman

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

It had the right wheels since delivery. Even before 2020.40.x I was showing almost 250mi at 78%. I guess this would explain why ABRP has consistently been underestimating range. On my old MS, it was pretty spot on.
  12. sublimejackman

ABRP Battery Degradation Comparison Post / Poll

Unless I got the worst brand new battery in history, I think the calculation may be just a bit off... Also, every time I set it back to 0%, it either automatically changes to 5% or goes back to this.
  13. sublimejackman

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

I see what you're getting at! Okay. I'll take another pic later tonight. Also, do have the 19" wheels. Not sure exactly how much of a difference this makes, but I do know that tire size impacts range.

You are correct, this turned out to be rumor. I apologize.

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

So I haven't charged the car past 90% (and never will) and if I had, I have a feeling the total charge would still be the same. Probably a CYA move on Tesla's part. From the word on the street, it seems like the post-June 2020 M3s have the same hardware as the new refreshed ones. I have Tezlab...

Supercharging an American Tesla in Europe

No. I would be moving there for personal reasons. It seems like the main hangups are lack of map support outside of NA and changing the tail lights to make it road legal. I'm sure I could live with having a hotspot just plugged into the USB at all times. Good news is the timing of the move...

With the new refresh on model 3s and new ranges. Will older models get a range increase?

I took delivery of a M3 DM LR three weeks ago. When I purchased it, the 0-60 time as 4.4s. After updating to 2020.40.4 a few nights ago, it now says 4.2s and there is a noticeable improvement in acceleration. Also, I charge to 78% for daily use, before the update, it was 248miles, now it's...

Supercharging an American Tesla in Europe

There is a good chance that I will be moving to Germany in next year. I couldn't imagine anything better than driving my M3 all over the entire continent. How many people get that opportunity! Knowing that European made Teslas have a different plug, would it be possible to get/make an adapter...

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

Ordered in May with an anticipated delivery of mid August. Unfortunately my ignorant brain didn't take in account quarterly earnings reports. Just wanted a new car. I'm hoping this Tesla monopoly is killed soon and a real competitor comes in soon. Yeah but the Audi dealer will at least pretend...

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

Yeah. I'll be VERY bitter for a VERY long time if Tesla cancels my order because I went to a wedding. I agree that driving literally anything else is slow, dull and lowtech compared to a Tesla. I just don't want to reinforce this garbage attitude they have towards their customers. Also haven't...
  22. sublimejackman

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

Yep. The problem is now Tesla has effectively become a monopoly. They are essentially the only show in town right now. I personally love my other Tesla. Just can't keep sending them such large quantities of money. Ideally a German made car with a Tesla-like drivetrain would be for me. The fit...

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

The car was ordered on 5/2 via a local Tesla rep, with a delivery expectation of mid August. I knew others had problems so I did it way out. At the beginning of august I did the DL and paperwork for a business lease (tax purposes). In mid-august I got the two weeks notice. I was then able to...

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

Yep. It's stories like this that prevent people from even considering a Tesla. Like people already think electric cars are bad because they've only had gas cars their whole life and it seems weird. So when I'm trying to convince my friends (who have the money to afford a Tesla) that they should...
  25. sublimejackman

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

That may have been an acceptable excuse back when the MS and/or MX were new. But not now. Tesla needs to put on its big boy pants and build cars/create processes that allow them to reliably deliver their product on time and in full working order. It's not acceptable that a large portion of their...
  26. sublimejackman

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

I guess the "cancel your order" threat was to force me to move my work trip and/or miss one of my best friend's wedding? Those things aren't happening. They have 72 hours to get the car here. Then I guess it's one less Q3 delivery... not that they care that they are about to loose a die hard...
  27. sublimejackman

    The Delivery Saga... Anyone

Am I taking crazy pills or is this just the new norm for Tesla? Like I ordered a M3 in May. Did all the paperwork and made the down payment in August. But I still don't have the car! Targeted delivery date was the last week of August, then the First week of September and then it was supposed to...

    2020.36

From a software development POV they're doing tons. Just regression testing on each MCU for each baseline for each configuration has to be monumental. Think about it. Every time a software update is released instead of just testing it on MCU2 + HW3, they have to test it on MCU1 + HW3. I would...

    2020.36

Wow. Thanks. Honestly that's really surprising. So for the FSD upgrade on my HW2 MCU1 MS, after spending $7k I would get the HW3 Tesla made FSD computer but would still be stuck with MCU1 and no Netflix, Games, full Sentry, Chromium, Dashcam, etc... Hmmm. This kinda baffles me. How much does...

    2020.36

So forgive my ignorance. I'm usually pretty up-to-date on these things. But is it possilbe to have both MCU1 and HW3? Like did you have the FSD computer added to your MX? That doesn't require the new MCU? If so, that seems like a strange choice on Tesla's part. Like even tho the two computers...

Warning, rebooting v10 on MCU1 while driving

This is a tough issue. I'd say if you have MCU1 and no-AP then I suppose preventing updates could be a reasonable choice. However, if you have/want to use AP/summon or want to use the cell data/Tesla services then mandatory software updates seems reasonable. The media paints every AP or summon...

Beach Buggy for 2016 Model S?

Dammit. That's really lame. I wonder why they chose MCU2. In the long run it will probably end up being the least manufactured hardware. There are already 100k+ MCU1 cars and all new cars are MCU3. Really doesn't make sense.

Don't Want Software Updates? Unplug your seat!

I feel like this might be the best one yet. It's the power connector, so you could probably put a switch on one of the wires. Then reach under and flip it off or on based on whether an update is available or you need to move the seat. You also need to keep in mind that folks on V8 will likely...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

After it fails 3 or 4 times, it just stops asking all together. The first time this happened, I had to take it to the service center to get the updates.
  35. sublimejackman

Don't Want Software Updates? Unplug your seat!

I'm 99% sure it works for that. The first time it happened was with V8. It went on for about 5 months. Eventually it just stopped asking me for updates and I had to go to the service center to have them manually force the update to V9.

Don't Want Software Updates? Unplug your seat!

BLUF: Unplugging the connector closest to the center console under the driver's seat will cause software updates to fail. I have been having trouble with my drivers seat not moving. I also was having problems getting software updates. Basically they would fail and I couldn't figure out why...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

Unplugging this one will prevent software updates.
  38. sublimejackman

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

Yep! Just verified this. I cleaned the connector and bent it up a bit and the seat now moves again. Last night the update failed and today I was able to update to 2019.20.4. Nothing else changed other than that connector not being plugged in properly.
  39. sublimejackman

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

I don't have the error log but unless there is some weird coincidence, it's the seat. When the seat won't move the software updates 100% fail. When the seat decides it wants to move the updates 100% succeed. This has been happening since November of 2017. I know it's the plug next to the center...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

Yeah, if you have the new seats in a Model S, the plug under the driver's seat that is closest to the center console is for seat control. Apparently the way seat profiles work is that all commands are routed through the MCU. If you unplug that connector, the seat wont move and will prevent...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

That's a good point. I have to take my son to camp all next week. Not mention getting around with him and a booster seat on the fourth July would be a nightmare. Hopefully they have loaner for my case. Not that I wouldn't mind Uber credits for the weekend :p
  42. sublimejackman

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

Yep. I kept checking the app last night and around midnight I was able to schedule service in Rockville for July 2nd. It took a full week of phone calls, emails and attempted live chats. This is awful. There is no way a simple call center saves enough money to warrant this. Also, I have...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

    1. I'm paying for the software updates and door handles that retract into the car without a loud clunk after 5min of driving. 2. The front motor is starting to sound pretty bad, probably a safety issue. 3. No a good look jamming a credit card into the charging port twice a day 4. Since I'm 5'5"...

Unable to Get Service for MAJOR problems

For some reason the module that controls seat movement is required for updates. The screen yellowing is relatively new. Tried the app and the website, both want to send me 100mi away. When I had similar frustrations the last 3 times with the seat, I just showed up each time but it took weeks...
